Hi! This looked interesting and I would like to try my hand at it, if I may?

Also, I noticed the thing about magic being an option, and before I go forward with my idea, I want to double check what a spell means.
Is it like, being able to cast a shield or a fireball? Is there a power cap on it? (I'll keep it on the tame-er side. Not summoning Cthulhu's Visage starting out.)
Additionally, would it be possible to use a minor application of magic, similar to how in D&D 5e, there's Cantrips? It'd be nice to just have a finger gun, as it were, with one decent spell starting out. If not, that's understandable.

Also, I'm not entirely sure what system this is all running on, so I don't know what rolls we would be making. D20, D100? Best of 2?

And, finally, how much magic is there in this world? Is it like if a couple stories were true, like a Kraken or such out there but only a couple? Or is it more, prevalent, as it were?

Glad to hear it. So effectively with magic, I was thinking largely curses and rituals and summonings, that kind of thing, though I like to give players a lot of freedom in this regard, so a more traditional spell is fine. I'll let you know if what you choose is too OP, but it sounds like you're planning on avoiding that anyway.

So it's a D100 system. Rolls are D100+skills+equipment (so if you're in a gunfight and you have firearms skill level 1, and a high quality pistol, those will both go in top of your roll. Imagine you roll 69 on your combat roll, your gun and skill would make it 69+10+10=89. Crit Successes are 90+, and Crit fails are 10 and below.

I haven't been writing up the rolls so far, to save time, but if you want to see the rolls, I can.

Finally, it's very much the kind of world where the supernatural exists, but in the background. Most people have never seen someone cast a spell, or encountered a sea monster, but they're out there.

Again, glad to hear you're thinking of making a character!

Looks great so far. I'll have an in-depth look later and give some feedback. For high quality equipment, think Conan's Atlantean sword, or Harry Potter's Nimbus 2000 broom - a specially made item that's far better than other things of the same type. Mechanically it gives you +10 to rolls in the related field (so if you choose a gun, to go back to the example in my previous post, you'll get +10 to rolls every time you try to shoot someone with it.) Alternatively, you can forgo any special personal equipment, and choose one of the larger ship types (ship types are in the lore&info page).

Hopefully I didn't explain that too poorly.

I had some ideas for what kind of spell I could give Derrick.

1, Deep Blast: Ol' reliable. Simple as simple gets. You point, you do whatever chant you need, and a bolt of force flies out and smacks the target. About as powerful as a gun, though much more accurate.

2, Deep Mimic: This is where it starts getting weird. Derrick can perform a ritual which "curses" him into a certain form. To determine the form (and maybe the consequences afterwards), Derrick must supply a sample of the DNA of what he wants to turn into, with the source granting various degrees of success. Hair, skin, etc can only get you to 60% similar to the target. Blood, if it's fresh, gets you to 85% similarity, though older blood gets you to 75%. Fresh cum gets you to 100% similarity while dried cum gets you to 90%. This effect lasts until Derrick performs the "turn it off" ritual which doesn't require any samples. Though... it may leave him with hints of what he was if it's not performed properly. (DO NOT USE DUST! -Traumatized Derrick.)

3, Deep Summon: Basically the above, but instead of turning into the target, you summon a copy of the target with the sample. This only lasts up to three hours, however, unlike Deep Mimic.

Any thoughts? I tried to keep to the theme here of rituals and curses, like suggested. And yes, there is a reason they all get the Deep prefix. Where do you think Derrick's getting his magic? ;)

If that's alright, of course. I don't like just messing with whatever worldbuilding's already been done, but I do like filling in holes. (pun intended.)

EDIT: Also, besides the spell, I think I have everything sorted out. Feel free to tell me if something's off. Though, I have to ask, if a situation allows multiple skills to come into effect, do they stack?

Those all sound like fun - you can start off with any one of them, and I'd be fine with Derrick learning all three as the game goes on.

I'm not sure, actually. The Great Old Ones? I like to give players a lot of leeway to be creative, so I wouldn't worry about messing too much with the worldbuilding.

I'll mention any problems if I see any. And yes, skills do stack in situations when you're using multiple at the same time. It's not like some systems where you only get your strongest skill as a bonus - you get everything relevant as a bonus here.

Alright! Then, I think I'm done! I'm purposely leaving the Patron very vague so you can have your fun as well with it. I've always loved the drama of a faustian bargain, and warlocks are the definition of a faustian bargain. Plus, if you want to point my character in one way or another, you can always use the Patron and basically give Derrick a shove if need be. I have a habit of needing one and keep holing up in one spot. Not sure why it happens, but it always seems to.

Anyways, I can't wait to start! Derrick is raring to go!

Sounds good. Glad you're excited. Hopefully I should have Derrick's intro up in a few days.

    Personal Information:
    Name:
    Faye
    Gender: Female
    Archetype: Reversed Magician
Card from tarot. "The Magician" also know as "The Juggler" or "The Trickster-Wizard" is second card in Major Arcana. When upside down (that's why it's called reversed) it symbolizes black magic, mental distress and madness.

They offer magical services to willing people, especially those desperate enough to pay the price. Sometimes they receive what they want, a stroke of good luck, an unexpected happy ending or gentle passage though sea, but other times it brings misfortune, suffering, maybe even a curse.

How else can one explain shadows coming to life, monstrous fish people crawling out of the water to attack and rape the crew? Even Kraken itself might come up to the surface, drawn to the misery and suffering.

And it can be worse, so much worse. Dead wind, currents carrying cursed ship into deepest sea where crew eats itself as everyone slowly goes insane from desperation.

But it was so pleasant in the moment, calm voice, soothing words, sweet praise. Tongue so silver it might be borrowed from the devil itself. Burn incense on the beach in view of the moon, bury half of it and throw the rest into the sea. Walk nude into the sea and fuck the witch.

    Upsides:
    • Silver tongue, uncanny charm that is difficult to resist, learned when young and trained to perfection.
      • +20 to charisma when trying to manipulate people
      • -40 outside of these situations
    • +1 to Witchcraft, this covers all the rituals as well as spells, along with all the knowledge about herbs and some minor medical knowledge.
    Downsides:
    • Hunted by church for being a witch and practicing black magic. It will only get worse as she draws attention to herself.

    Nation of Birth: England
    Appearance/Pic:
    History:
Faye didn't have that name at first. She was named Elizabeth and she was a child of two poor peasants in England. She was abandoned when she was young, she's not sure if it happened because her parents died or if they couldn't support her.

By pure chance she stumbled into a hidden coven. As a naturally curious child, witches gladly took the orphan in, teaching her about their craft. Young Elizabeth's progress was promising, proving herself to be a capable and determined student.

When she became an adult, she changed her name to Faye, hoping to get away from her traumatic past. At the same time she started to date Matthew, a young man from a nearby village. It didn't last for long as he betrayed her when he learned that she's a witch and reported her to the inquisition. Other members of the coven exiled her once they learned what happened, for endangering them all.

To escape from inquisition, she snuck onto the ship heading towards Caribbean. During the journey the ship was attacked by pirates and the crew was wiped out. During the fighting Faye snuck onto pirates' ship to not get left behind on the wreck.

When she was eventually found, she threatened pirates she will curse them if they lay a hand on her. It worked mildly, with part of the crew unconvinced along with the captain. To prove her magic abilities, she filled a pot with sea water and set it ablaze into a pilar of blue fire, terrifying everyone on board.

Once they arrived at Tortuga, Faye made a living by doing various rituals for a fee. She learned about various superstitions that sailors had (with one of the most surprising for her being the fact that while women were considered unlucky to bring onboard, naked women brought luck. That explains all the figureheads in shape of nude women...) and capitalized on them by offering blessings to counter bad luck, selling charms that let sailors sail on unlucky days. Some of these were real, some of them were fake. Something she just didn't like the customer so she ended up cursing them instead.

One of the more notable things she did was cursing one of the captains into a woman. While it only lasted a couple of days, the amount of gossip and interest made her consider moving somewhere else, looking to flee from all the attention she was receiving.
    ------------------
Ship: None. She tends to sneak onto the ships whenever she wants to move somewhere else.
Belongings: Heavily tattered dress, a little leather bag with many, many stitches holding it together.
Weapons: Small dagger for self defence.
Equipment: Deck of cards, dried herbs, piece of flint and some polished cabochons.
    Gold doubloons: 10
    Voodoo/Magick/Brujeria:
    • Curse Artisanship - while not really a spell, this represents the act of making and casting a curse. It is very flexible since almost anything can be cursed in some way and curse is a bit misleading in this case since it doesn't exclude positive effects, meaning that it can also be used to bless people. The required ingredients vary but they are always related to the effect, strength and it's duration.
    --------------
    Combat Skills:
    • Ghost 2 - After avoiding capture for so long, Faye is able to seemingly disappear into thin air without a notice. It makes tracking her during a fight much harder and she can easily avoid detection.
    • Swift 1 - If talking fails, running is not much of an issue. It's much easier to get out of danger, especially in cramped and complex environment like a dense forest or towns alleyways.
    Non-Combat Skills:
    • Navigation 1 - while it's not really her forte, Faye can make use of navigational tools, to better or worse degree.
    • Seduction 2
    • Emphatic 2 - Adept at reading body language, she is more capable of recognizing a lie
    • Witchcraft 1 (+1 from archetype, total 2)
    • Intimidation 1

    Flaws:
    • Aggressively lesbian: Doesn't have trouble shooting guys' advances down after being betrayed in the past. But when it comes to girls..... Let's just say she can't help herself.
    • Bitter loneliness: After spending so much time alone, she can't handle genuine affection well, becoming flustered and helpless in response.
    ------
Preferred Kinks: Even tho the character is leaning lesbian, don't be afraid to stick guys into a scene. BDSM, rough sex, blackmail are all fine but not required. I don't want to limit your creativity with my kinks ;P
    Forbidden Kinks: death, inflation, scat

Feel free to point out any issues with the character sheet. It's my very first one.

I am not sure about the skills and archetype is a bit overhyped xd

    Just teasing~

    As I look at this...
Archetype should give bonus and disadvantage. From what I see, disadvantage is... bad luck? And bonus is... some good luck?

You have that giant +20 to charisma rolls that's the main thing with the rituals themselves consuming items instead.
But I do agree that it's a bit too vague. You can't see what the archetype is about just from reading about it.

I am not sure how I could fix it up tho. Any tips?
