Ok I was not expecting the infinite mana glitch to actually work XD We might want to stockpile some Mana potion with Martin, just in case we ever run into a situation again were the group loses access to their inventory I was admittedly a bit miffed too that we were cheated out of sexy mummy pranks. But then I remembered this was an engin story and sexy mummy prank translates to brutal guro porn. I don't see the point of waiting to use Alide. I want upgrades now! We actually have a bunch of stuff from two floors back that we could trade in and see if we get something good out of it. modest two piece swimsuit, Binding Bandages, golden bangles, silk gloves, Siren Queen's black heavy armor, black bikini bottoms, I'm not expecting much from those, but might as well try Scepter of Still Waters This however should net us something good. It's completely useless to us going forward, but still a very rare item As for what to get... I feel like Utility is the way to go. So another Utility spell for Yulia And I don't want the stupid plush
I had a think, we don't actually know where the floor's exit is. We are assuming we need to fight the toughest thing we can find, but that may not be the case. Also we should totally get a plushy, but only if they provide delivery.
It would probably be wise to check the plushy first for chomby teeth and hidden curses to draw blood before having it delivered. Also I think we should avail ourselves of Alide's services now.
In the hive, well at this point I will take that as good news. We probably could do the hungry sands, but now we can overprepare or skip. Maybe the tomb will help us, they have some investment after all. Let's leave the unlock book for now, it doesn't seem to come up much so let's wait until there is a door the current level doesn't work on or we need 2 people with it for some reason. Or use identify on it, see if that tells us the advantage of the higher levels. No point swapping the staff for a weapon, we still have a large pile of tech plates so a simple weapon is not valuable. Depends, odds would go up if it had cute pictures of Maple though.
Is Unlock weighted differently than other utility spells? Cause damn. I kinda wanna have Yulia use it anyways, just to see if it gains some secret ability to unlock hearts or something. Getting confirmation that the Hive has the exit isn't a surprise, that was implied to be the case earlier. Although I still held the fear that the Tower was gonna force us to confront the Hungry Sands. Taking down the third of four floor monsters for the Hive might be enough for us to secure passage. That does leave us with a crossroads: do we take on Bal'zebul and the Hungry Sands? The situation the Desert Mother and her followers face is truly unfortunate, but since we discovered the cause and brought the Fangs back into the fold they're in a better position than they were. And the fact that there are hundreds or thousands of captives in the chamber we saw alone shows just how vast of a scale we're dealing with. We'll have help from the naga and lamia, but can we take down a fully powered Archdemon? I'm personally torn because I don't like our odds, but I think we''ve got a chance if we play our cards right. Also, Alide: I'm curious how you feel about the imposter Yulia, Malia Lustra, who appeared among us earlier.
Another unlock? God damn It might indeed not be door related this time, assuming we even can gain another level. I'm not sure if we can identify the spellbook and see what the higher level does but it's worth a try. I'm not a fan of item hoarding and the scepter is completely useless to us, I say we trade it in. We already had a loss on this floor, so I really don't think we should challenge an Archdemon without good reason. Since Goregut would have transported us or some members there, the place is clearly meant more as a punishment then anything. Alide also made it very clear that this time death is very much in the cards. I vote against it for now. There's still a bunch of places in the tomb to explore, and since it looks like the place is relatively safe now, we should do so before moving on. "So, if we're exploring the tomb there's the Long Sleep, the Ritual chamber, the er... coffee house, Gift Shop and the throne room and of course the hall of heroes, Hall of Shadows and the Descent that we have to pass through to reach those," Yulia explains. I propose the coffee house first. The girls could use a break and if we lucky the coffee won't even include blood.
I agree on coffee break for now. On Hungry Sands, we have been hinted at possibility of harder challenges on final level, especially if Yulia will have to face Alide there and fights have been reasonable for us aside from the first unlucky meeting with the rack. So the rewards for Hungry Sands may well be worth reaping.
Well, well well a staff of necromancy is it? Since we have basically unlimited mana, this certainly makes for a fantastic item Before we do anything I would like Goma to do a little test and use the necro staff on Yulia. It's easy to forget but she IS undead, so clearing if this works on her is vital As for what to do I dunno something easy like make her do a striptease on the table should be fine. It would also be interesting to see if it works on the mummies buuut that could risk antagonizing them, so Yulia will have to suffice for now. As for the unlock spell, since this goes up to four obviously we want Yulia to have it. And since we have to wait until Yulia performs her strip...I mean test, might as well have that bagel and black coffee
Emmie's notes: Alide is hinting she has Unlock level 4 or a similar ability that allows her to bypass the Turbulent Cloak. She's literally prepping us to defeat her, she hates her job and wants us to win ;_; I don't think the staff will work on Yulia or the mummies since it seems to reanimate and then control a corpse, while controlling an existing Undead would probably need something else. Worth testing though. It might be worth talking to the scorpion and saying, "We've defeated the floor monsters in the Temple and the Tomb, what would the Hive be willing to offer for us to do the same for you?" Securing safe passage to the floor's exit would be ideal. And maybe bring up the possibility of an alliance against the Hungry Sands? We haven't committed to attacking them yet, but I'd want to see what kinds of allies we could get before making a final decision.
Also worth noting is what Alide says about meeting on 10th level: "We'll see each other again, at least once more and on the tenth floor I won't have to leave after we complete our business since you'll be meeting me at my home after all" It is worth asking about access to the floor exit and alliance.
I think Twala just volunteered to pay for everyone's drinks. Necromancy staff with infinite mana glitch. I suppose the practical cap is 20 as that is 100%, although Lemiel does have 200% mana so could be 40 with 1 potion per order. Even if it is rather impractical it plus potions could give us an army if we find enough corpses. Perhaps the tomb has some spare? Worth asking. I don't suppose the temple has any we could use? As for person, I vote Maple, she doesn't currently have much she does and doesn't use mana for anything else. I don't like it but it may be what is needed to make the hungry sands safeish, if nothing else weight of numbers can make traps a lot less threatening. I'm probably reading too deeply into it but "opening anything that can be opened" sounds absolutely terrifying. You could open a hole in the wall, the floor, or just space itself. Projectiles that bypass protective magic would be only a minor point, they could also hit instantly from any distant without line of sight. I hope I'm reading too much into that. Otherwise, information sounds good. Finding out what the deal with the wasps and scorpions would be nice.
Newest Chapter: I think I covered everything... That ended up being more of an exposition dump than intended
Given we'll be meeting them on the next floor, any info we can get on the Tower Functionaries would be beneficial. Lydia, the one who takes care of the children of the Chosen and their companions, mentioned having two other sisters and that Yulia probably wouldn't encounter them before the tenth floor because she is "a good person." That, paired with the discussion about a Tower Functionary who creates the floor monsters, got me thinking: maybe they would only get involved with the Chosen directly if said Chosen was an existential threat to the Tower. While Chosen have a lot of agency, the Tower could not sustain itself if it just sat back if one decided to exterminate an entire floor. The monster maker may then appear, provide a warning, and threaten to unleash more anti-Chosen monsters as a punishment. Since Yulia would never even consider doing that, she likely wouldn't encounter this Functionary. And on the subject of Chosen agency, I have an idea about another role. While Yulia has brought along her party as allies and comrades, I'm sure there are Chosen who just straight up capture sex slaves. The Tower almost encourages this behavior to an extent. But advancing up the Tower while dragging along a bunch of captives is probably difficult. So what if, similar to Lydia taking care of children, there's a sort of jailer who can keep a Chosen's slaves? A dark thought, but one in line with the nature of the Tower unfortunately. Based on our scorpion friend's response, it seems safe to say we can secure safe passage to the floor's exit if we defeat the Collector. Our discussion of undead weaknesses may prove useful in planning to counter it; we should try hitting it with the staff's magic as soon as we encounter it to see if it goes down. Although let's watch our backs after the fight, because if we're weak enough they may simply stab us in the back and defeat the party. Also, the bit about the tarantulas playing a role in subjugating the wasps was interesting, given how the one we encountered was treated by the scorpions with her. It may be worth talking to a tarantula about that when we run into one. Maybe as insurance against the scorpions backstabbing us? As for corpses, while the Hungry Sands won't have any lying around, we can make some if we decide to make a move against them. So we don't need to push hard for them from the Queen when we talk to her. Hell, we could probably launch a raid on the Hungry Sands to kill a few enemies without going as far as taking on Bal'Zebul.
Oh, well now I'm worried. Although we can try open on all sorts of things now. If the 4th level of unlock really is that strong then perhaps the 3rd level can do something quite but not as dramatic. I would posit that Open can remove any obstacle that could be bypassed or otherwise overcome by non-divine and non-violent means. This would include most traps. Perhaps we should see what happens if we cast it on the stairs outside. I see no harm in asking about bodies, but if they are using them already it might be like asking for them to act as an army. I still find killing people just to make use of the body too distasteful. But if we find or accidentally make some we might as well make use of it. Presumably we don't lose any undead (at least permanently) if people swap the staff over so Maple for now and Lemiel if we want to go big. Im curious about the whole Hive situation, and I don't entirely trust them, but we need to deal with them one way or the other. Subtly using identify on the wasps is probably not going to work, although we could try it as the locals will probably be very happy to see a fight if they do react.
No striptease? My disappointment is immeasurable. We should certainly ask the Queen about her mummies. After all we did kill their floor monster. Least she can do is fork over some corpses as a reward for that. The scorpions might be more fun to subjugate, only problem with that is that the Wasp most likely aren't any better, so we end up in the same situation as Floor Seven
Killing the floor monster in Hive would likely be the easiest way to avoid inhabitants' hostility whether we want an easy exit or to do something about the status quo. It might be worthwhile asking Dahlia some more questions if she is on this level.
Now I feel we should have asked for something else besides corpses I don't want to overdo it, personally I like the ten corpses approach the best. I'm sure we find plenty of more corpses lying around if we want to bolster our forces Would be nice to know were Dahlia hangs out, I doubt she's in the tomb since Alide is already here, so maybe the Hive?
