While thinking of a way to break up erotic coupling and I noticed that their are a large number of stories that take place in school or college as well as some stories in other categories. Here is a quick search I did last night. School 426 stories. College 312 stories. Teacher 136 stories. Student 170 stories. University 45 stories. Sorority 23 stories. Dorm 23 stories.
This also leads to the question what a category should be. - A milf teacher would be a milf as well. - A sorority/dorm orgy would be group sex as well - Innocent students could be erotic couplings, teen, gay or lesbian I think, that a common denominator should be defined for categories before any restructuring. A complete set of possible categories could give an idea about it. (Though I have no idea how this could look like) Changing the category structure could create a gap between old and new categories. There should be a plan how that could be handled.
I will make a list later and add in the numbers. A complete set of possible categories could be quit extensive depending on what would qualify for a category. Especially with the overlap possibilities or stories sometimes in the wrong place. For me personally it is about if we have enough stories to fill a desired category. Mind control for example could be considered science fiction but their are five hundred stories in mind control and over a thousand in science fiction and fantasy and fantasy is intermingled with science fiction. Every story in the categories is probably divided among erotic coupling which has over a thousand stories, teens, and maybe even milf. I personally fill that the categories should be more about the type of story one is telling then about sex. Other sites have for example have an Anal category as their first category but Chyoa does not, nor do I feel it should because it is just one sex act that can occur in a story. So I don't think their should be categorizes for stuff like blow jobs or tit fucking. Stuff like group sex, Milf, Teen are kind of middle ground in that they can be either a tag or are a category since they feel a certain fetish. If a story blurs the line then what is the most extreme fetish. A BDSM story about a Milf wouldn't get a lot of fan fair in the milf section. Over all I kind of follow a mind set of movie themes. A movie set in the old west is a western, a bunch of stuff blowing up is a action, a medieval quest. fantasy, story in space, Science fiction. So a story set in a school would fall under erotic education. With that many stories it is clear that it has have a following of people like stories set in school. But the stories shouldn't include the stories set at magical schools and stuff because that would make it fantasy.
There was a suggestion somewhere which i liked very much, to break down the category system into "setting" and "fetish": http://forum.chyoa.com/threads/new-categorizes-or-sub-categories.875/#post-12968 In my opinion, that would help a lot in properly categorizing a story, without the limitations of the current system, where you can only have a single category. @gene.sis: Of course most proposed changes will be likely incompatible with the current system. Just thinking out loud: To me it seems unlikely that an automatic conversion from the old to any new system could be achieved. Perhaps there could be a (lengthy) transition period, where both the old and the new systems are active, giving people ample of time to change their stories properly and adjust it to the new system. And then after the grace period is over, every story that is not properly edited just goes into "not categorized yet".
Two category levels (settings and fetishes) sounds like a good concept, though I'm still not sure about what (current) categories would fit into which group. Yes. It is just about having a plan how a conversion should go. I don't believe that this will happen. There are at least 50 stories in the "Non-English" category which were created after the possibility to choose the language of a story and marking the category as dated. If there are two levels of categories and the current categories would fit into either level, they could be converted that way with leaving the other level "empty". That way filters for categories would still work.
