After being given a preview of the documentation by gene.sis a few months ago I finally realized that I have not said something I needed to here in this thread... I was wrong, I'm sorry. Is the system written the way I would have if I'd had the task of creating it? No. Is it as simple and easy to use as I wanted? No. Is it as adaptable, flexible, and versatile as as I would like? Again, no. Is it an improvement over what we have and capable of doing things we sorely NEED to be able to do? Good God Yes! I was making the best the enemy of the good before, and for that I am very sorry. I still feel there are a bunch of things that might be added in the future, tweeks, minor fixes, but the very fact that I can't remember any of them right now indicates just how minor they all are... Again, one last time: I'm sorry. I acted the goat in here before, and I can only beg forgiveness for it...
I would *love* to have this functionality available. I'm trying to write a game right now and having this functionality available would drastically simplify a lot of things. I am a programmer by trade, so picking up on whatever syntax is used is no big deal.
Any way to help along or speed things up? Participate in a beta? Bake cookies? Sacrifice your firstborn child? Bribe Friedman? You know, the usual?
Or bloody brilliant? I'm afraid however, that with enough virgin sacrifices, the feature release will be delayed indefinitely ;-)
This may or may not be the right place to convey it (I could send a PM I guess?), but I would be interested in participating in any code development or testing / peer review / QA, if you have a need for it.
I'm totally watching this specific thread for updates, entirely because the "random" function (if it is what I assume it is) would be excellent and actually would allow us to translate some more complex stuff over to CHYOA that kinda relies on more than conditionals.
Can anyone point me to a good resource where all this stuff is explained in layman's terms? I'd really like to be able to create playable games and use these kinds of tools, but the terminology is unfamiliar to me. I'd love to be able to read some kind of Beginner's Guide.
a way to create random numbers and dice roll results. The feature is still in review and probably more complex than most other features, so I think it will need some time to review it. It may also depend on what features are most wanted. As the feature is still in review, it is currently not possible to use this stuff. When it gets released, there would be a Guide similar to the Conditional Branches Guide to explain the usage.
I’m glad that more complex calculations and variable uses are coming to CHYOA. My story definitely would have benefited from them if they’d been there from the start, and as it is I’ll probably end up “retrofitting” it with the new features, so to speak.
Hello gene.sis, Just wanted to thank you for all the labors. I am very excited about all that you are doing, especially the dice/random function. I have always wanted to create an old school D&D erotic module and it might just happen.
Currently looking forward to this... would make some aspects of the story I'm working on a bit easier. (sorry bout the necro)
We have to wait until the next CHYOA version to add this functionality. Right now, using it in production would lead to performance issues. With the next CHYOA version, we can implement it in a different way.
