This is a shared universe with Havast's Possession game, but focusing on a different type of spirit. The game plays much the same, save the situations involved. You awaken a ball of invisible, intangible, semi-sapient mental energy. You are a Fury, the emotions of anger and hatred personified, but you are so much more than that. You are what is known as a Greater Fury, which incorporates a significant amount of two or three other strong emotions, making you close to a full soul. There are many beings like you in the world, knots of quasi-sapient emotions, and one constant is they need a host, or they will dissipate. However you are in luck, there are many candidates nearby because you have manifested in the middle of a raging conflict... --- Now for the questions: You are a Greater Fury, that means you are made up of a minimum of three emotions, though Anger is dominant. Your second major emotion type is Love, you the vortex that formed you roped in what might have become a Cupid just before you gained sapience, meaning that it was still relatively pure, giving you a strong urge to spread romance wherever you go. 1: What other Major emotions are part of you? (Vote for up to 2.) 1a: Disgust. 1b: Ambition. 1c: Pride. 1d: Logic. (Yes, I know, that's the opposite of emotion, but it counts for this purpose.) 1e: Sadness. 1f: Lust. 1g: FAITH. 2: What affinities do you have? (Vote for at least 2 and no more than the total emotions voted for counting Anger and Love.) 2a: Women. 2b: Men. 2c: Lesbians. 2d: Gays. 2e: Bisexuals. 2f: Asexuals. 2g: Heterosexuals. 2h: Soldiers. 2i: Police. 2j: Vigilantes. 2k: Warriors. 2l: Sports Players. 2m: Victims of Crimes. 2n: Victims of Injustice. 2o: Victims of Oppression. 3: Where Do You Spawn? This is a write-in, you can declare anywhere that makes sense to spawn a Greater Fury, with a couple of restrictions. 3.1: it must be a public place such as a park, mall, dessert, or other location that is not protected by a family's house spirit, nor the business patron of a private shop. (Interestingly, big-box-stores like Walmart and TARGET are not so protected: only shops directly owned and operated by actual individual human beings or at most a family...) 3.2: there must be a significant conflict occurring there both at the moment and over the past several years at least once a year. (So a Mall that has a problem with trampling and fisticuffs over choice gifts during Black Friday, or basically anywhere in Iraq or Afghanistan...) 3A: Pennsic.
1b, 1f 2a, 2b, and 2e and let's do paaark? Well, I'll tell you what. I'm going to vote for a Mall so that this Possession and Hvast's Possession don't' start on similar tracks.
That's fine. I simply enjoy all the various hi-jinks that can be gotten up to at a park. Ultimately, it's just the starting point.
I want this game to move relatively fast, at least a post a day if possible, so we are going forward even though we have only one vote. You awaken about three hundred feet over an immense army encampment. Your crude and limited senses detect more than ten thousand human souls you could enter or influence nearby. This has been a place of immense hate and rage, but also overwhelming love, and a fair amount of magic as well, for some humans, (even those not empowered by a being such as yourself, and you can tell there are a few dozen others like you in some ways scattered among the people attending this gathering,) are able to use very limited magical powers in this world, with sufficient training and preparation. (Basically, in this world the kinds of things real life Pagans think they can do with the candles, crystals, and energy manipulation: really work. [And, as another aside, I'm not entirely sure if this is, or isn't, actually a change from the real world...]) However you don't have time to be choosy about a host, you can feel the vortex that created you dissipating already, you have at most five minutes, (In-game, not IRL,) to chose a host to empower before you will begin to come undone so you can only choose from about a dozen nearby individuals. However, at this same moment that you are choosing your first host, you also have another difficult decision to make: You must crystalize your essence cores, deciding what kind of powers you will grant your host forever after. As your strength grows you will build new essence cores, gaining access to more powers, but the choice you make today will decide what your first set of cores can do for the rest of your existence. --- 1: First Anger Core: This is your fundamental core, it's power is going to be the easiest for you to access and cheapest to use in terms of energy expended. Your Options are as follows: 1a: Strength Boost: You can empower your host with a sudden burst of strength beyond their normal limits. The higher you develop this ability the longer the boost lasts and the stronger it becomes. (Beware, however, at a certain point the boost becomes too strong for the body to handle and each use will injure the host. The point where this happens varies from host to host.) 1b: Push Buttons: Your host can incite rage in those around them. This is a gamble but used correctly it can create a mob or trick someone into decking you... Can you say "Lawsuit"? The more this power is developed the more they can focus and direct the rage created. 1c: Speak With Host: Normally you can only influence your host's emotions, you can't talk directly into their mind. When you develop this power that changes. At first level you gain the ability to answer Yes/No/Maybe/"I-Don't-Know" questions, as the power develops you gain greater and greater ability to speak to your host, eventually making them seem like a schizophrenic because you can have full conversations with each other... This can be a huge risk. A lot of world religions say spiritual creatures like yourself are inherently evil, especially the Roman Catholic Church and Islam, the two largest religions on Earth, but many others, especially several syncretic religions like Santa Muerte, see you as partners/spirit guides for your hosts... 1d: Speed Boost: rage can fuel sudden bursts of speed and agility, allowing your host to run down an enemy or dodge enemy attacks. The higher you develop this power the longer the boost lasts. 2: Second Anger Core: You already have two anger cores, which is what makes you a Fury. The second one is harder to access for the moment but allows you to pick another Anger based ability. 2a: Strength Boost: You can empower your host with a sudden burst of strength beyond their normal limits. 2b: Speed Boost: rage can fuel sudden bursts of speed and agility, allowing your host to run down an enemy or dodge enemy attacks. 2c: Endurance Boost: at higher levels, rage can allow people to shrug off blows that would normally kill them: for a time... However unless you expand this core all it can do is let them keep going despite minor injuries and pain: still a very useful survival trait. 2d: Possess Enraged Subject: This allows you to hop into a new host in the immediate vicinity, but only if they already are enraged, giving you a gateway into their soul... 3: First Love Core: This is your newest core, the one that tipped the balance on the vortex that created you over from an unformed mass to sapience. 3a: Cupid's Arrow: You can fire a bolt of love at someone. They will develop an infatuation with the next person they see that is compatible with their sexual preferences. As this power is developed the infatuation becomes longer lasting and stronger. This can have a downside, however, as nothing guarantees the person they settle on will reciprocate... 3b: Parrent Trap: This one is an insidious and somewhat dark power. Relationships sometimes crumble over time, but one of the strongest bindings of the human psyche is FAMILY. When you use this power, if your host is in love with someone and has sex with them, assuming they are physiologically compatible at the time: BOOM, pregnancy. The host need not be aware you have done this, and there are all kinds of ways this can go wrong, but... As you develop this power you become able to overcome more and more physiological obstacles to the event, starting with the timing of fertility cycles and at the very highest level allowing men to impregnate other men. (Interestingly, "Heather has two mommies" is much lower down the ranks, in fact, it's lower than 'impregnation from a kiss'...) As the ranks increase the power also starts helping ensure a successful pregnancy, correcting for genetic flaws, restoring the mother's health, healing old injuries, and at the pinnacle of its strength even allowing you to literally restore life to a recently deceased lover with a kiss. (The woman so saved will turn up pregnant, but, a small price to pay really...) However reaching max rank in any power is difficult, and most spirits like yourself that try to reach the ranks where they start performing 'miracles' are destroyed not long thereafter by rival spirits or human mages... 3c: Heartbreaker: If you think that was dark... Well, you're right, it's a lot darker than this one, but this is still quite dark. Love has often been compared to warfare, and not without reason, love ultimately is a contest of fitness between one or more suitors and the object of their affections with the ultimate goal of securing a reliable partner in the quest for survival. This competitive aspect is where the Heartbreaker power comes into it. What Heartbreaker does is not build romantic attraction for yourself or others, it's tear down all but the strongest existing bonds. As the power is developed you are able to bring more and more of the little cracks that exist in almost any relationship to the fore: "Have you ever doubted a kiss or two?" to quote RENT? Well, if the answer is "Yes.", Heartbreaker will bring those moments flooding back out of longterm storage, and the higher it goes the more of them it will dredge up in quick succession. This can shatter a weak relationship in seconds, and even tear down fairly strong ones over time. Now, "How is this a good thing"? In general, it's good because people's instincts about a relationship are often more spot on then they realize: if you think your boyfriend might be cheating statistically you're right roughly 75% of the time! So, when you crush a weak relationship with one massive strike with this power at high development, chances are you just did the 'victim' a favor. More specifically, why it's good for you and your host is that by destroying an existing relationship you make that person available to date YOU instead: genetic win! 3d: The Ties That Bind: As anyone with a young child or a healthy appreciation of Disney movies will know by now, not all love is even remotely sexual: Princess Anna's self-sacrifice in "Frozen" reminds us all that the strongest kind of love is not that between lovers, but FAMILY. Any sane parent would gladly risk their lives to save those of their children, (yes, even adopted ones,) and that's what this power plays on. Unlike Heartbreaker, The Ties That Bind is all about strengthening familial bonds, reminding those on whom it is used of all the things that their family has done to help them over the years, but it goes deeper than that. Not only does it dredge up good memories of family, but it also, as this core expands, can heal mental scars inflicted by Family. Now that might sound dangerous, opening that person up to fresh injuries because they are no longer wary of the dangerous individuals in the familial unit, but hold up a second sport, because we're not done! As the ranks put into this power increase beyond a certain threshold, you also become able to do a kind of limited psychic surgery: excising the taint of flawed genetics and dangerous habits that are hurting your host's family. The deeper seated the problem the harder it is to remove, but at the highest ranks, you start being able to cure the most hideous ailments of society such as the impulse to commit rape, incest, and pederasty. 3e: Possess Beloved: This allows you to hop from your current host to another, but only along a 'Loveline'. The two hosts, old and new, must be in love with each other for you to make the switch. As this power progresses the distances involved increase and more types of Lovelines open up, starting with a parent to their child and moving on from there up until the pinnacle where you gain the ability, if you develop your host's position and fame enough, to defuse yourself across a vast subsection of the human race... PRESSED POST BY ACCIDENT!
4: First Ambition Core This is an older core, but it checks out... 4a: Confidence Man: this allows you to inspire your host to say things that are more persuasive, insightful, and tailored to their audience. Many politicians have ambition spirits using this power bound to them. The more highly developed this power becomes the more people it can affect at once, the more subtle its effects are, and the longer they last. 4b: Parslemouth: This power allows you to communicate with nearby animals. The stronger the power becomes the more effective the communication. 4c: Paragon: This ability allows you to maximize your host's ability to grow and develop, letting them learn faster, exercise better, and develop their own supernatural talents if they have any. The higher it is developed, the more optimized the host's own development becomes. 4d: Prophesy: this lets you see a short time into the future. Few spirits chose this power because it only really comes into its own when it is at least at rank 20 and expansion 4, allowing them to see 20 minutes into the future, which would take years of training, and even so it is almost useless unless you can effectively communicate that data to your host somehow. However, those that develop the ability to that degree can make their hosts fantastically rich and influential. 5: First Lust Core: Ah, your lust core, this is your second oldest core after your First Anger Core, and it's a nice core that you like a great deal. 5a: Appearance Boost: You can enhance your host's appearance to make him more appealing to a potential partner. As you increase ranks and expand the core the effects become more dramatic and longer lasting. 5b: Pickup Artist: You make your host more glib with the people they try to seduce, allowing them to read subtle cues of body language and intuitively know the right things to say. However, this ability is short lived and has a long cooldown. Develop it to grow the first number and shrink the second, while an expansion of this core allows a wider range of targets and more of them at a time. (LICD's main character has a spirit which has this ability at near PEEK potency.) 5c: Peacock: This is a more subtle power, but a useful one none the less. The hard part of getting your preferred partner to pick you is often simply standing out from the crowd: this ability takes care of that. When you turn it on one or more people is bound to suddenly notice you, but at the lower tiers of the power, this might not be a good thing. At first, the power just makes a few random people in the area suddenly notice you, and if one of them is a hot woman, and another her jealous boyfriend... As your ranks and expansions rise the power becomes less and less simply a spiritual neon sign saying "Look at me!" and more a targeted internet add blitz cutting straight to your preferred partner types, as well as increasing in effective distance and versatility, allowing you to advertise for more than a hookup, but a range of more long-term sexual relationships. 5d: Good Vibrations: This is the lustiest lust power of them all, it makes your host better at the sex act itself! At first, you just give them a little more staying power, (less 'staying power' in the case of a female host,) but as you increase your ranks and expansions they become supernaturally competent, learning tricks and techniques that they have no natural way to know, and even developing enhanced physical capacities, such as increased semen production, decreased time required to recover between encounters, multiple orgasm potential or double ovulation. 5e: Sexual Poseesion: you gain the ability to jump between hosts during sexual encounters. The higher the ranks the briefer the encounter needs to be and the wider the range of events that count as an 'encounter', while the more expansions the core gains the fewer previous 'encounters' they need to have had for you to be able to jump across. ONE MORE TO GO: POTENTIAL HOST TIME!
The Hosts: There are a half-dozen possible hosts in the immediate area which you could possess, each has their strengths and weaknesses. Duke Sir James Klosterman: The Duke is vulnerable to possession through a gaping rent in his spirit due to the dissolution of his marriage. He cheated on his wife for six years with a woman he met through the historical reenactment group whose annual gathering has formed the concentration of emotions that created you, and she finally hired a PI to track down the truth of why he never took her along to these events. That's not the worst of it for him, his 'lady' found out about his WIFE around the same time she filed for divorce and she kicked him to the curb too. Though he is a liar and two-timing creep he has redeeming qualities. He is a very active member of the SCA, and a Knight, so he has a household and standing. He also is an independently wealthy man in the mundane world, with a net worth of over 7 million dollars. Furthermore, he is an accomplished blacksmith, with a workshop that rivals that of Baltimore Knife and Sword. The Duke is a tall and broad-shouldered man of around forty years starting to go soggy around the midsection. He is Caucasian and has ash blond hair and blue eyes. Duke Klosterman is not religious, but neither is he an atheist: he considers himself a militant agnostic. Baroness Kelly MacDunnah: The Baroness has a hole in her spiritual defenses from the loss of her son. He was a boy scout in his youth and grew into a fine figure of a man and a true patriot. However, he didn't join the military but rather the FBI, choosing to protect America from the threats within its borders. All that came to an abrupt and heart wrenching halt when he was working a kidnapping case and ran afoul of the Russian Mob. Both he and his partner were murdered, leaving behind the rest of his family and a three-months-pregnant fiancee. His mother has never missed Pennsic War in the past twenty years and is going to put some of his ashes into the boat burning... Meanwhile, she and her husband are not doing well following their son's death, it has put a huge strain on them both financially and emotionally. No one is talking about divorce: YET, but the signs are there... Can you head the train off and keep it from plunging off a cliff? On the positive side, Baroness Kelly is, well, a baroness, she and her husband founded their barony some 30 years ago and have been in charge of it right along, they thrive on meetings, plans, schedules, pomp, and circumstance and are much beloved by their vassals. Baroness Kelly is of Irish descent and has brownish red hair and freckles with hazel eyes. She stands 5'6" and is significantly but not grotesquely overweight. She is a Roman Catholic by faith. Barron Gregory MacDunnah: Kelly's husband is an architect by trade, and has provided well for his family, until a few years ago when his firm was sued for wrongful death following a fire in an apartment building he designed early in his career. The building had been up to code when the designs were turned over to the contractor, but by the time the building was finished, the code had changed under their feet. It was successfully argued in court that the contractor should have had the building redesigned and Gregory should have known that the codes were about to be changed and made the building fit the NEW standards. Gregory lost over a million dollars and the strain of the trial impacted his health, forcing him into early retirement. This thing with his son might be what breaks him at last... The SCA is Gregory's great solace, he lives for the weekends and going to events. Gregory is 57 years old and has reddish brown hair and dark green eyes. He stands 5'10" and keeps himself fit despite his advancing years. He doesn't drink alcohol, being profoundly allergic. Like his wife, he is a Catholic. Mistress Beatrice Fair: A laurel for the Society for Creative Anachronism in 'All the Skills and Arts of Midwifery' Lady Beatrice's persona is not at all far off from her day job, to whit, she's a maternity ward doctor in at the Barry Women's Clinic for Maternity in Dayton Ohio. She takes her two weeks vacation every year for Pennsic, and coincidentally just got back from another hospital where she helped deliver the most recent baby of her Laural apprentice Lady Connie Ulsterman, who, being a stubborn girl of 21 years, INSISTED she would not miss Pennsic even if she WAS two weeks past due... Mistress Beatrice is well liked and fairly well off, but has no interest in marriage or children of her own body, being a strict lesbian. She is however in a committed relationship with her life partner, who also has no desire to bear children. That said: they ARE mothers, having adopted a family of five kids ranging in age from two to twelve from the foster system whose parents died in a boating accident. Her partner is back in camp with the kids at the moment... The rent in her own spiritual armor is an odd one, as you cannot see a source, her personal shields just suddenly collapsed for no reason... Religiously Beatrice is a Non-Denominational-Christian-Mystic. Dame Galenia Rosham: Dame Galenia is a fighter and one of the society's few women knights. She is from the Barony of Flaming Gryphon like Mistrice Beatrice and they are walking together enjoying the night air. The two are friends, not especially close but cordial and they've been to each other's houses a few times for post-revels. Dame Galenia holds a secret though, she's bisexual and finds her lesbian friend incredibly attractive on the physical level. However, she knows that Beatrice is spoken for, and would never jeopardize their friendship and her friend's family life over the mere physical attraction. Dame Galenia fights florentine and is a fencer as well. She has 'killed' over fifty people on the battlefield this day, and is still feeling kind of stoked about having been MVP for the barony in the castle battle. Like her friend, her shields just suddenly shattered a few seconds ago... Religiously she is a Pagan-Omnitheist, and professionally she is a middle-school gym teacher in Centerville Ohio. Speaking of her faith, she is so far into the 'broom-closet' that she doesn't even have visible religious Iconography in her house, keeping her alter in her literal bedroom closet. Dame Galena is an athletic and aggressive 6'3" bombshell that would make any man both stare and feel a little less manly. She has the body of a pro-swimmer, and hardly an ounce of fat on her, which makes her the secret crush of 86% of her school's 8th grade male students. (And about 5% of the female ones...) Her hair is mousy brown and worn shoulder length. Osama Yeshua Mohamed: Secrets abound this night around the castle at Coopers Lake, such as the man stealthily following the pair just mentioned. His name is Osama Yeshua Mohamed, and he is a man obsessed. Osama is not going by a persona name here like everyone else, that is his literal name. Though born in Dayton Ohio, his parents are from Egypt and as with most in that country are devout Muslims. Osama is less sure about that, but he considers himself Muslim as well and attends his mosque regularly. However there's a problem, he has become neurotically obsessed with Dame Galenia. It started when he was in eighth grade and she joined the faculty. He was smitten the moment he laid eyes on her, and he joined the SCA to be closer to her. Now a recent high school graduate of 18 years he has gone from young crush to full on STALKER. Dame Galenia remains blissfully unaware of his obsession, he's actually quite good at this stalking thing at this point, but that's not the worst of it. You see Osama has a secret he hides even from himself. His attraction to Galenia is rooted in more than her stunning good looks: she also is very masculine: and Osama is secretly Bi. It is that self-deception about his true sexuality that provides the chink in his spiritual armor by which he is vulnerable. Osama stands only 5'4" but has quite the muscles on him, his hair is black and curly like the wool of a lamb. His eyes are the color of milk-chocolate and his skin is the typical olive of a middle-easterner.
I vote.... First Anger Core:1a(pretty obvious) Second Anger Core:2d(for a potential more broad possibility to hop hosts if needed) First Love Core:3a(I'd go for 3b if it was like an olden feudal society for the Intrigue, but 3a gives more potential for sexy situations) First Ambition Core: 4c(seems the most useful) First Lust Core:5b(Would love to pick two of these, but it's a toss-up between 5b and 5e for me) Host: Dame Galenia Rosham I wish there were more people making decisions, but /shrug. Tell me a bedtime story Nemo
You enter Dame Galena Rosham and realize that you have chosen a magic moment. Dame Galena's shields are top notch and she's reactivating them without even consciously thinking about it. You get in and anchor yourself to her soul: then realize you've made a huge mistake, from a certain perspective... }Hello, what have we here?{ The Voice echoes inside your newly crystalized essence cores, and you realize at once that it is your host's voice: and she knows you are here! --- Time for a write-in! Each possible host had a hidden 'special advantage' and 'special disadvantage', in Dame Galena's case it is that she has her own supernatural abilities, thus she knows she possessed: BUT: who's really possessing whom? You can influence her, but she can do the same to you, and even though you don't have a communication core she can sense your answers to yes/no/maybe/'I-Don't-Know' questions. Now, here's the question you need to decide on right now: how do you respond to her question? You are limited to sending her flashes of the emotions that are part of you and the aforementioned Yes/No/Maybe/IDK answers...
I think flashing her the Love and/or Ambition motiffs is the best course of action. We're not exactly a malevolent being, but we also don't exactly want to go topping out hands to our full capabilities just yet.
You flash her pulses of the emotions Love And Ambition and she cocks an eyebrow. }That's a rare combination.{ she thinks back at you. }However, if that's what your willing to admit to, I know there must be more too you because it takes at least three emotions to form a greater spirit, I accept your binding as my Anima, welcome to team Jessica Hellen Bozworth... What is your name and gender?{ The woman whose true name you now know to be Jessica asks. In her acceptance of you and sharing of her true name you also feel your possession score rise, it now stands at 5/10, halfway to total dominance of your host... --- Please pick a number between 0 and 11...
(Sorry about that: extremely literal-minded; Asperger Syndrome don't-cha know...) Anyway, just waiting a few more hours to see if anyone else responds...
[Your guess is 2 off.] You feel a strange new sensation, your influence over your host just rose, but then a counter force rose with it. You realize that her telling you her true-name was a trap. She's just enmeshed you in a Binding matrix, giving her the ability to control you to a degree: well, that would come at higher binding levels, right now all it does is give her access to information about you and the nature of your cores. }So, newborn and a greater fury, impressive, we're lucky we found each other aren't we; had you chosen a Catholic host you would almost assuredly have been destroyed. You also don't appear to have a name: so by the powers vested in me by Bragi, Appolo, Druantia, Blodeuwedd, Okuni-Nushi, Milu, Ao, and Chuang-Mu I NAME you: Nori-No-Kame!{ You feel yourself changing in that moment: a true NAME is a powerful thing, it shapes and defines you, what you are, and what you can be. You feel a new core starting to0 form, too weak yet to crystallize, but you already know it's nature: it will be a 'Logic' core... However, that has tightened the bindings she has over you, allowing her to read not only they broad types of cores you have, but the specific nature of each core as well, though not it's strength, (as she knows you to be new minted she can surely guess, however,) and that means she knows what to ask to have you use your powers on her behalf! However, it also means you have an opportunity to increase your influence over HER... --- Another roll, pick a number from 1 to 10...
I'm going to go with 4 because Gambler's Fallacy wants me to aim for a lower number (1-5) when the last number was a higher number(6-10)
[You Were one off, well within the CR for this check.] Your control over her increases at this juncture as well, keeping the two of you at equilibrium with you having 3 higher "Control" than she has "Binding", giving you a slight advantage in terms of dominance. All this has transpired during a 3-minute lull in the conversation between Mistress Beatrice Fair and your host, which now resumes, as your host carries you along for the ride. "You've been awfully quiet Galena, is something the matter?" "Sorry Beatrice, I was just lost in thought." Your host replies. "About what?" Beatrice asks and Galena responds... "I'm sorry, that's private." --- Now, here are some things to vote on this time. 1: Galena's tone at that moment is set by the emotion you flash to her: what is it? 1a: anger. 1b: ambition. 1c: love. 1d: lust. 1e: do nothing. 2: What is your gender? (If you don't choose a gender for yourself before your host does she will get to define it for you...) 2a: Female 2b: Male 2c: Hermaphrodite. 2d: Inhuman. (Like a fungus for example, some of which have 51 'genders'.) 3: What is your sexual orientation. (Your host cannot define this by her own will, but if you don't choose it for yourself after a few weeks of living inside her it will come to match hers by default.) 3a: Heterosexual. 3b: Homosexual. 3c: Bisexual. (This will become the default.) 3d; Pansexual. (You're attracted to everyone and everything.) 3e: Sapiosexual. (Attracted to a person's mind, not their physical characteristics.) 3f: Anima-sexual. (This one is basically only truly seen in spirits like you and the very rare people who have been possessed since infancy: they are not attracted to ANY physical or mental characteristic, but the strength of a person's soul...)
