Agreed: similarly, I know a lot of the Lesbian stories are not written by women, so, it stands to reason that there are at least a significant percentage of the gay stories that are not written by men...
I just voted gay... there's just not a ton going on here for/by us. So, that's the lack of votes. I haven't been in in over a week.
It seems to be internet common knowledge that almost all slash fanfic and half of other gay erotica is written by women/girls. It's actually a pleasant surprise when I find an ebook on Amazon that's written by a man. Here, I think it's likely many of not most gay smut authors are men. The tone and focus make me think so. Just a feeling.
How do you know that? You can easily choose a pen name of the other sex, letting the reader think that the story is written by someone who can really relate to the characters. I think that's a more reliable approach.
Pleasant surprise when the author of a book I read the blurb of is using a male photo and name. Better?
I've maintained on this site that I am straight, but that recently changed. I'm married to a bisexual woman and she asked me to at least think of doing something with another man because she thought it would be hot. We are swingers and often bring in "Special Friends" to enjoy together, but I've never messed with another man. I never saw anything wrong with it, but never considered it. Now I have a coworker that is interested in being my first and I am actually really into it. So now me and my wife both share in being bisexual (Granted I am still growing into the role) and I feel that it is a very cool thing that we can both be like this and share so much together. Now unfortunately, this probably will not affect my writing much, if at all. I'm more interested in women and will probably continue to write about mostly straight and female bisexuality since that is where most of my experience in both writing and life are.
I read a study not too long ago that talked about sexual development, and described how there were ways that otherwise straight men could fetishize homosexuality. That is to say that the inclination is nurtured and psychological rather than nature and observable in scans of the brain. Figured that was interesting, and worth pointing out in reference to rejecTed's comment.
I clicked "bi" but personally identify as "omnisexual." As Karla Pacheco once said "I sorta wish omnisexual was a more commonly used term because it makes me sound like the Galactus of Fucking, and that's pretty much what I'm going for."
