Hi, everyone! I'm opening this thread to discuss my new story "Tales of Silver Lake". It's a spin-off from my first and main story "At The Cabin". On here, we'll explore different, shorter stories that can happen using the park and the cabins as the setting. I already put the first story, but others will follow at a later date, since I still need to finish "At The Cabin". So it's open now, feel free to add to the current story or come up with a different one. The story can be found on here: http://chyoa.com/story/tales-of-silver-lake/cover
I'm scribbling out a side story from the beginning focusing on the rangers -- Jennifer, Colin, Ryan, and a new character, Patricia Jones, another ranger from another station on a temporary transfer. I'll have them investigate a mystery of some kind, but I'm still trying to figure out what exactly. I want it to be rather light-hearted, sort of Scooby Doo-esque. Thoughts?
I'll be honest, I think character creation is the hardest part. I'm going to do some brainstorming tonight and maybe pitch a story. With two groups of college/high school kids, maybe I'll try an older group. Maybe use the teacher that was introduced to build around, or one of the parents. Also I realized my slasher movie idea becomes a lot easier with new characters, rather than ones I'm so invested in. If I do that I will create a new group of teens for it.
Yarkoz, maybe your idea can be exactly like a Scooby Doo episode, with the rangers investigating rumours about a ghost in the park and progressing from there. henrytemp, a story with older characters can be great too, I've thought about making one, but I ended up lowering the characters' ages and the result was the engagement story I've posted. I thought the horror story would be great with the original group (Zack and the others), but you've got to go with what it's better for you.
Ryan: *pulls off mask* "It was Old Man Jenkins this whole time!" Jennifer: "... Don't even think I'm going to say 'jinkes'." With that out of the way, I like it! And I think I know what I can use, or at least an idea behind it. Someone is actively discouraging people from venturing into an area of the park because of something illegal going on.
LOL, looking forward to this story, with grumpy Jennifer and Ryan acting like that you might have quite the fun story coming up.
been thinking more on the horror story, I will use the original characters but will also use both cabins as though they arrived on the same day. using two cabins will also allow for them to not notice missing people as quick. ie "Where is Kurt?" "Oh probably with Kendra at the other cabin." Will probably have to build a storm or something to knock out travel, phones, etc. Not sure on the monster. One idea I have is based on an 80's movie. Another one is based on an episode of the x-files.
Sounds like a great premise! Will the monster have a sexual aspect to it or he'll be responsible only for killing/kidnapping people?
two ways to answer this- 1. if I'm going to have it engage with the characters it would be in some human form, either because it is human or a shapeshifter type thing. I'm not interested in writing creature on human type stuff. 2. more likely, at least my thinking at this point is that it would have an effect on other's sexuality. Maybe something about it causes people's sex drive to go up or something. I keep coming up with these ideas that or more sci-fi and have to bring myself back to the scene- camp/slasher. Like I was thinking about a vampire or body snatcher, that would allow me to keep the characters alive, but change them. But idk.
Maybe a human that got involved in some sort of power-granting accident (a chemical one, I don't know). He can have the power to spray something on his prey that makes them incredibly horny to have sex with him, afterwards he can just kill them, turn them into someone like him or drain their lifeforce during sex, maybe. I'm not really interested on creature/human either, I guess it's not even allowed on CHYOA (I know bestiality isn't).
1. Something I've been thinking about, too. It's cool if that's anybody's kink, but personally, anything too bestial or inhuman feels more like straight horror than erotica. (Plus, even if it were within the rules, I feel like some monsters acquire weird symbolism once they get sexualized.) 2. So instead of the killer creeping up on couples having sex, the killer is actually compelling people to have sex? Awesome.
Compels sex, amplifies desire and response, then feeds on erotic essence either by observing or participating, leaving victims too drained to continue but still hungry for more?
Sounds like a psychic vampire in that sense. You might even want to think about it this way -- remote charging devices convert energy in electromagnetic waves to stored electrical energy in batteries, so maybe a psychic vampiric organism works that way if psychic energy operates the same way electromagnetic waves do. Maybe sexual energy is more preferred too, like it's energy dense like a high-calorie red meat or more efficiently processed like sugars.
so many good ideas. I think my first story will be a straight slasher story. but the psychic vampire and other more supernatural ideas sound fun too. I'll try to get my first chapter up this weekend and if anyone wants to run with one of the more supernatural ideas, please do.
I'm not 100% satisfied with my first post and may edit it. But thought long and hard, considered starting the story with them arriving and Heather/Kurt being pulled away. Seemed better to start where I did, laying out the mystery of their absence
Because it's been knocking around in my head, and because I'm not ready to dive into my other stories just yet, I'm going to submit a very short story with Rohit's family. For those who don't know, Rohit was a character I created as backstory for Heather in the original "At the Cabin" as one of her past boyfriends and the first real relationship she had. It'll be loosely tied to duskford's main storyline I think, and I don't intend it to last very long, but long enough for a few scenes at least. They'll be some cameos, including one who is an integral part of the story, though I'm sure you can guess who that is
Ah, Rohit's story! Looking forward to it, Yarkoz. I'm going to guess the special cameo will be from Kurt.
Certainly later! And it'll probably be reformed Kurt, not that magnificent bastard Kurt isn't fun of course Also, random question. Did you name the waterfalls that Heather and Zack always seemed to get it on at in the threads, duskford?
No, I didn't. Now that you're mentioning it, I think that giving a name to those waterfalls never occurred to me.
