Sarah looks around the diner, and smiles to see families having dinner. She walks toward the girl at the register. "Excuse me, do you have a menu?" She said plainly trying to get the girls attention. She looks over to Alexander and beckons him closer.
"Sure!" she turns and you find she has a nice face too and she's wearing a dark apron. Her chest is a decent size. Definitely smaller than Sarah's, but large enough to be noticable. She pulls a pair of small menus out of her apron and hands them to you.
Alexander looked around never having seen an American diner, only in film, he followed Sarah's lead and went to her side. He gave quick 'Ahoy!' to the cute waitress and flashed her a smile, taking the offered menu. He waited for Sarah to take the lead again.
The menu itself is nothing flashy. It's pretty standard for an American diner. Hamburgers, French Fries, Steak, Chicken, Beef, etc along with various sodas, coffee's and drinks.
"Thank you," Sarah takes the menu and smiles at the waitress. "I'm Anne, and this is my partner Alex. We're journalists, and we were hoping we could ask you a few questions?" Sarah asked in a friendly tone as she looked through the menu.
The waitress looks around for a moment. "Um...Sure I'll answer a few questions. Feel free to take a seat wherever, but I can't stand around talking for too long, because my boss'll get angry if he catches me talking for too long."
Sarah chuckled and looks a little embarrassed, she clears her throat and apologizes to the waitress. "Sorry about that. Let's start over, I'd like to order the chicken, please. And just water for the drink." She places her order first, to avoid getting the girl in trouble. "Just one question for now, what can you tell me about this town?" Sarah asked and waited for the girl to answer, and for Alexander to place his order, before heading for a booth in the corner.
Alexander nodded to her, 'Thank you, that's very courteous of you, ...' he glanced at her nametag, or--if the owner didn't label his waitresses--waited for her to say. 'Could I have a cheeseburger with fries and a half-litre Spezi, please?' he ordered.
She shrugged idly. "I don't think there's honestly much to say. There isn't too much around here. Just a few businesses. Honestly, I don't even live here, I live in the town down the street. About the most interesting thing that goes on are those weird people who party off in the woods, but I don't really know too much about them." Her nametag says 'Katie' Her expression goes blank at you when you name of a brand of cola she isn't familiar with. "I'm sorry Sir, I don't think we have that here. All we have are Pepsi and Coke products." (I think Pepsi and Coke sell variants of Spezi, but she wouldn't be aware of that nor do they likely sell that here anyway.)
Alexander smiles at her, 'Well, if you have Pepsi and Cola products, it should be no problem then, Katie.' He leaned on the counter, 'You just take half and half Coca Cola and orange soda--Fanta or whichever you have--et voilĂ , you have Spezi,' he beamed.
"I'll see what I can do." She leaves into the back and lets the two of you find a seat and comes out a few minutes later with your drinks. "I tried to make it like you wanted. I'm not sure how it turned out though. Your orders are in. They should be out here in about twenty minutes." She hands Alexander her makeshift Spezi. It's passable.
Sarah smiles at the waitress and says, "Thank you, that does sound interesting." She heads for an unoccupied booth, surveying the other people having dinner, to see if someone looks suspicious.
(Improvised drinks are never as good as their actual counterparts) Nobody particularly stands out as suspicious.
Seeing no one suspicious, Sarah sits in the booth and waves at Alexander, "Over here!" She smiles at anyone she notices staring at her, trying to look friendly. And waits for Alexander to sit down, and for their order to arrive.
