A good option would be if you could edits people's chapters if you do not own them but then the owner of said chapter can accept or deny the changes. it would help with the poor spelling and grammar of non English speakers or to submit new ideas on what can happen in said chapter
This would be too easy to abuse to be practical. What happens when edits change the core of the work? What happens if multiple people make multiple changes? This also could have the potential to take away creative freedom from the author if they're contributing to another story.
That’s why he stated that the original author (or possibly an editor or story owner) would have to approve it first.
Which is fine in theory, but still has the potential to remove creative control from the original writer. You're putting a lot of faith in editors/story owners to do the right thing and whilst I'm certain 90% would, there's potential the 10% could ruin it for everyone. I also feel this ignores larger stories that receive a lot of traffic and could receive numerous 'edits' all at once. Whilst I respect the intent of this idea, I can't see it being implemented in a way that at best becomes a huge headache for moderators, editors and story owners.
I think if only the original author had approval rights of those changes, then it’d be okay. It wouldn’t bother the moderators or editors and the original author eventually gets to make the changes or see the suggestions and keep creative control while fixing up their grammar or spelling or writing style. I also think you overestimate how many people would give a shit, it’s hard enough just to get people to like your chapter or comment on it, let alone bother to edit it or post suggestions.
I think this has been suggested before but I can't find the thread. This could also be done by making someone an editor. I guess that most users are rather readers who wouldn't suggest an actual change of a text passage but rather state something like "meh, that's bad, she should be a redhead," which could also be done through conversations/comments.
