The actual mechanical details are often way more difficult to write in an interesting manner than the build-up to the scenario itself. Personally, I always feel the need to try and invest some emotional attachment into it. Sometimes the microscopic focus on the anatomy and feeling can work, but few folks can give cogent criticism on when a sex scene is hot versus meh. Confessions...uh... I wrote a scene which I haven't posted because it was so weird I was afraid it verged into new fetish territory.
*I stress endlessly about repetition, both of using the same word/s to often and accidentally going over old ground and repeating plots or scenes.
I have it on file, but I'm not sure when or if I'll ever work it in anywhere. The gist was... Spoiler A flashback to the female protagonist in college, in a co-ed dorm, who becomes aware that one of her male hallmates masturbates regularly, and leaves their used tissues in the trashcan at the end of the hall. Curiosity takes ahold of her and she starts to sniff them...and play with herself while sniffing them...and then lick them...eventually waiting him out so that she can cease her hidden prize as fresh as possible...and the "climax" was trying to stuff them up in her vagina during one particularly intense solo session while fantasizing about maybe getting pregnant. ...it was a very weird train of thought, and you can sort of see how it evolved over time, but ultimately it felt out-of-place. Confession: After starting to write on CHYOA, going to other CYO-erotica sites feels weird and awkward.
@brevdravis Serendipitously, a discussion of how to flag as polyamorous came up in my mentions elsewhere. The suggestion was to wear an enamel pin with the Google Calendar logo. (A heart or three added to the design would seem in order as well).
Are you some strange doppelganger of myself created by dark magic?! (Or maybe I am your doppelganger? Hmm, either way I am troubled.) Yes, and yes. The thing I hate most about writing on here. More so than reading other author's work, I bet. I have changed my current's story's cover picture more times than the days it has been in existence. That does seem to be a new thing. But I am far worse. I don't bookmark anyone else's work since I want all those little red number notice warnings to be about me. I am truly a terrible person. Except for comments. There even more desired. I have a whole other thread about that confession. Straight sex scenes are boring.
Ok, that's actually... pretty cool... except I'm old school and would totally want to add in a bunch of tiny colored ribbons... Because I'm nuts, but I really like the way you're thinking on this.
What? you mean there are other CYO sites? LOL I hope you do include that in a story somewhere, it maybe a little 'out there', but anything different is good in my book (Well, almost anything).
Sounds like a story idea. Folks at a gathering wearing different badges and ribbons, trying to figure out what other people are flagging. I could imagine calling the story, "Are You A Turtle?" after the once-obscene but now quaint challenge/response of the AHOT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_and_Honorable_Order_of_Turtles
I HATE PROOFREADING!!! Why can't people read my mind and know what I meant to say instead of what I have actually written? The world would be a much better place if people would do this.
Dang... so much I want to write... so few opportunities. Course, I just... I imagine a LOT of people walking into that story and having this reaction
Confession: I like a good plot better than a well-scripted sex scene. Don't get me long, I like both, and a good scenario that leads to a good sex scene is great. But if I have the emotional investment in a situation, the fine details of "insert tab-a into slot-b" (or however you want to play with your bits) is less critical than that it provides an appropriate payoff to the situation.
I totally agree. I love writing the set up, but usually dread the sex scene, which I find tedious to write. I wonder what percentage of Chyoa readers would agree?
I don't write good characters, and "she was in love the whole time what a twist" is the closest I've come to plot. But I like writing the reason, situation, build up, and position of the sex more than the actual sex. There is only so many ways to write "it went in and out. They feel good." I'd say most or all of the writers have the same problem. Lots of new ones will stop writing at the beginning of sex scenes.
I have a tendency to write "Blank Slate" protagonists. That is - A Character that doesn't really have strong beliefs or opinions one way or another. This is...Okay...For me because I have a tendency to write in a 2nd Person perspective. If you give a "you" character definition that the reader doesn't have, then it drops them out of the immersion. The drawback to this mindset is that every other character in the story generally has a better personality than my protagonist's. Amusingly enough, I've found that writing sex scenes is a lot like writing combat scenes. There's a lot of moving parts and you have a tendency to have to keep track of every single one of them. Otherwise it's going to read like one of your characters has grown an extra limb or something. The problem is that this means that writers really have to be in the right mindset, or their perspective will become garbled.
I somewhat agree and like the analogy. I enjoy the challenge of writing a good fight scene too (especially in my Catwoman story), but this can be difficult also, especially keeping the choreography right. My favorite analogy I have heard on here is that it is the difference between describing making a sandwich and eating a sandwich. The making part is full of endless possibilities. The eating part is fairly limited, hence the difficulty. I guess it would be the same with martial arts. Describing the training would be much easier than a straight up fight scene.
