So, this is my first attempt to make a story from scratch. So far it has been fun working on some crazy ideas i had over the years of lurking in the web. I don't know how many chapters a story should take so i think i will write 4-5 stories with 6-7 chapter each. Is it a bit ambitious? Is it better to write a single story and then explore different possibilities by adding new paths? I hope someone will give me some feedback because i'm a bit lost at the moment
Personally, I prefer new paths more than just one long linear read, but obviously authors tend to stick to just one which, can be fine, but also if some readers don’t like the branch, it’s bothersome to see only one thing they don’t care about get a ton of focus. Story length varies greatly, and just kind of depends pretty much purely on the author since, technically, stories can go on just about forever under the chyoa format.
I was thinking the same, more because i might get bored to write the same characters over and over again.
The answer to your question really is 'whatever feels right', by that i mean do what you feel comfortable writing. My tip would be to write it off CHYOA on word doc or something then after several chapters you can see how it feels. Where as if you go straight to CHYOA and after 2 or 3 chapters realize your written yourself into a corner it'll get messy trying to undo it. It's also easier to edit typos and stuff on a word doc. I write linear stories, rarely, if ever, with a choice of threads. Simply because that's want i like reading and i find it easier to write. I know it's not strictly speaking what CHYOA is for but there is a market for it here. Go with your gut instinct and if it stops being fun writing it then switch it up, that's the key though, have fun! Good Luck.
Yes, typos are a big issue since english is not my first language. I'm now writing the chapters in word to check them
Grammarly Saved me! It has found all the typos and helped me with the proper verbal form. Now I have an issue. I found out that I don't like that much writing about sex scenes and similar. Nice cuddles and things before are fine but not the act, at least for me.
That’s quite common on here. We love the build up and afterwards but the action itself can be tough to write. Read your favourite authors on here and see how they do it, then add your own style. Good luck
