Here's my conundrum. So the bestiality rule states no sex is allowed with a creature that can neither choose to consent or communicate consent. This is all well and good and fits for male human - female animal sex. But what about nonconsensual female human - male alien creature sex? My question is this. Would I be allowed to write scenes in which a male alien creature rapes the female main character? I would think so, but I'd like clarification. My viewpoint is this: 1. Rape is allowed in CHYOA stories, so long as it adheres to the violence rule, of course. And this is male initiated nonconsensual sex, i.e. rape. So, good to go there. 2. The primary issue with beastiality is the issue of consent. Which is a non-issue here. The male alien creature is the initiator of the sexual encounter. And as rape is allowed in CHYOA stories, the female human does not need to consent. So, should be good here. 3. Another beastiality issue is the similarity to any real world animals. While the female human would describe the alien creature in question as toad-like, it is most definetly not a toad. It has fangs, three independent eyes (like a chameleon), stands at five feet at the shoulders while on all fours (or sixes as it has six legs), and has wings to help it glide from cliff to cliff. Definetly not close to any earth animal in any significant way. So, this should all be good. So, that being said, would this be a scene I would be allowed to write? Mainly asking because this questions serves the entire premise of the story. A girl trapped on an alien planet and hounded by horny alien monsters. This is just one example of the monsters she'll meet. So basically, if this scene won't fly, none of them will and I should just scrap the story. But I think, given the points I've made, a sound argument could be made that this does not violate CHYOA rules. Do you agree? Do you disagree, and if so, why?
I’m not the right person to answer as I’m by no means an expert on the chyoa rules and my stuff doesn’t get near the line plus your subject matter is not my thing. however from what you’ve said above I’d say you should be ok. For me it comes down to intelligence, are the monsters/aliens intelligent? Do they know what they are doing? Inter species sex with alien life forms is fine, non-con is also fine. So long as they are clearly not Animals we’d recognise here on earth and they are intellectually advanced I’d say you are ok...but only just. You’ll need to tread carefully. It may help if the human could communicate with them, even primitively, as that will add a degree of separation from bestiality .
Thanks! That gives me a little reassurance. Don't want to write a whole story just to have it taken down.
Yes, basically. Mature, be able to communicate, and intelligent. (That includes the ability to understand consent. Animals and children don't understand consent. But the actual encounters don't have to be consensual.) No. Alien animals and alien pets don't pass the Harkness test. The behavior of the creatures must meet the Harkness test. It isn't enough to write "they are intelligent" and then describe their behavior like the behavior of animals.
In short, yes. In long, the issue is so nuanced that you would probably need to post a passage from your work to this thread in order for anyone to definitively say 'yes' or 'no'. It sounds pretty okay to me, but I can't be certain. One way to figure this out for yourself is to replace the monster/alien in question with a) an equivalent human and b) an equivalent animal. For instance, take a scene with a tentacle monster. Does it make more sense if you replace the monster with Doctor Octopus or a giant squid? If the former, you're good; if the latter, you'll need to make some edits. Any beast that can be replaced by a person without significantly compromising the text is obviously going to have human intelligence, capability of communication, understanding of consent, etc. If you find yourself needing to make the characters more human-like, try adding dialogue. It doesn't need to be English dialogue, just enough to show that the character can speak in some capacity. You could also take a leaf from the books of ancient mythology and use half-human, half-animal characters. This is still somewhat risky, i.e. don't go substituting a horse for a centaur just to pass the site rules. And when you're designing a non-human character, your best bet is to start with a human and ask what's different about them, rather than starting with an animal and wondering how to make them sufficiently human-like. Don't always rely on the Harkness test, either. A talking alien that happens to look exactly like a cat shouldn't really be fucking humans. Conversely, a 50-year-old elf who looks and behaves exactly like a 50-year-old human isn't a minor just because Dungeons & Dragons says so; you can solve this by being explicit about the rate of aging of the species in question. Finally, this doesn't prevent your story from having animal or animal-like creatures at all, even in the erotic scenes (unless maturity is a problem). A person is allowed to have sex while riding on the back of a giant tortoise, but they can't have sex with a giant tortoise. Similarly, if a 'creature' is closer to an inanimate object than any living thing, treat it as such. If a wizard uses their magic to fuck someone with a dildo from afar, it's probably assault, but it's not bestiality. TL;DR: Fictional beastiality is not an exact science, but if it feels like someone's fucking an animal, then they're basically fucking an animal.
I think the CHYOA Rules are quite clear about physical appearance. So as long as you're not trying to work around the underage rule with the physical description of the creature, you're basically fine. The Lion King's characters won't pass the "sexually mature" part. Other than that, I don't see any problem right now.
I mean, if you wanted to split hairs. Most of the characters were adults by the end of the film, so if it was a fanfic that took place after the films it would be fine for the "sexually mature part". However I was mostly joking.
You can also write about an alternative storyline as long as the characters are aged up according to the rules.
I haven't written the story yet so I can't post a snippet, this question mainly serves to find out if its worth writing at all. The creatures in question would fit all the following criteria: 1) be sexually mature. 2) be the initiates of the sexual encounter making consent to the MC a non issue (if they're raping her they obviously consent). 3) they're unable to speak English or any earth like language due to having different vocal systems but would be displayed using some kind of language amongst each other wether it be fully developed with words from an alien language or sound based (i.e. clicks, growls, snorts, trills, used in place of words, think the geonosian bug people from star wars attack of the clones). 4) yes, you could replace them with a mature human male that doesn't speak the MC's language and it would still work as an approved CHYOA story, in my opinion. Hopefully that clears up exactly what I plan to write. The creatures would fit all the above criteria while being explictly NOT human.
