"We'll back you up." @Auraicide She looks to Medius. "Won't we?"

 

The questions remain typical, many being what she already asked until about halfway through her meal after it arrived. “Now, here’s something I found interesting. You don’t seem like the sort to gossip about co workers...but, interesting fact. Laya had left work the other day.” She placed her fork down for a moment, giving Steve a proper look in the eye.

“I suppose it strikes me as unusual if not for any reason than she had left the hospital before I spoke to her...and the staff insists she had been stuck managing the aftermath, the entire night. Now...she seems like a nice girl...but that’s a little odd, don’t you think? I know she both did and didn’t leave and have proof of both things being true..so how does that work? If you have any answers to share, I’d be grateful. Following that, I have a question for you...”

She took a look at the cafe area for a moment and almost gave a slight snicker trying not to laugh at some idea in her head. “Did you really pick here for no particular reason when you decided to call me?”

While she was busy starting to grill into him, he could hear tue cloud of voices from the minds of other people in the area fill. Most were stressed about work or lack off, or family issues. All normal things, but one struck out as someone got up from his seat. A thin pale looking guy, who Dr.Cho could recognize the clear signs of drug abuse just by looking. Patting something on the side of his coat, and making his way over to the counter, he didn’t need to hear the full line of thoughts to realize what the strung out man was planning to do. Juliana was sitting across, waiting for an answer with a half dreamy look on her face, apparently not able to read the same things that he was.

“Why wouldn’t I help the boy who will eventually be the death of me?” Medius was smiling, but he was not kidding. His tone sounded like it might have been meant to be a joke, but not quite that either. Straightening up, he gave a look over everyone again.

“Jack should go on his own then. Terra and Liam can track the source of the chemical....actually, I believe Alexandra would be best used helping there as worried about the others as you may be. You were curious about the Brotherhood anyway, so you’ll have a chance to look into that. Heather...I want you to stat put here. I’m still uncertain of how you can be useful and it wouldn’t do to risk you needlessly. For emergency assistance, Jack may as well use Abel and Adel given their history...” Halfway into speaking he turned to look at the redhead.

“Come to think of it, where is your brother anyway?” Medius had asked the question, and whole Alexandra knew the answer, apparently the all knowing psychic was unaware of it.

“Dunno. He was passed out when I got up this morning, so he’s still probably on the floor. I tried throwing water on him, but that didn’t work so...just kind of left ‘en there. I’m not losing my whole day just cause he can’t down shots the right way.” Alexandra could sense emotions, but Adel’s face was perfectly straight as she spoke, her casual tones remaining unchanged. She was well practiced, but Alexandra knew from the earlier situation what the case was and what she wasn’t sharing with her...some kind of figure who was shaking his head with a disappointed look.

“Even if it’s your time off, it’s not healthy for you two to be going that crazy with alcohol.” He had accepted the answer, but Alexandra still had an understanding of what just happened. Did she just lie?

 

Alexandra narrows her eyes slightly, but keeps her mouth shut. The fact that Adel is lying, and that Medius either doesn't realise, or is pretending not to, is something that is best acted on later, rather than blurted out at the first opportunity.

"Okay then. I'm not crazy on the idea of sending my friend and former student into the arms of a lunatic, but I'm choosing to place my trust in you." She approaches Medius. "If he gets hurt, though, it won't be Jack, or your partner, that kills you. If he gets hurt because of you, I swear to God, or the Consensus, or whatever, that I will kill you. Understood? Now, tell me where I should be going. Do I just follow Liam and Terra?"

 

'So, Heather's staying here for the moment?' Jack repeated, 'Okay, that may be for the best.' He turned to Adel, 'Should we go find Abel before heading for the park?'

The young man looked at Alexandra, 'Thanks for looking out for me, Alexandra.'

 

Alexandra smiles and punches Jack's shoulder lightly. "Hey, I'm your teacher. I have a duty of care, after all."

 

He turns his head to the guy on drugs. Placing a hand on his forehead he focuses his mind on him. A gun comes out of his coat that was hidden from sight earlier.

Other voices pick up in fear and panic around them.

The guy on drugs hand shakes in resistance trying to pull it up.

Steve holds himself until the drug guy places the gun back in his coat and walks away. When he walks out he pulls the gun out and commits suicide. Letting out a deep sigh he turns back to the detective disappointed by the results as the voices around him are focused on the man who committed suicide outside.

“Sorry about that, what were you saying?” He asks her most likely revealing his powers to her.

"I don't plan to let people die needlessly. We'll see what can be done." Medius giving his bestish word looked at Alexandra for a moment, his emotions remaining entirely steady and difficult to read, but he didn't look upset about her threats of what would happen by endangering Jack. With a waving gesture of his hand, he dismissed her down into the lobby, before she knew it, she opened her eyes to find herself on the ground floor without even remembering having went back in the elevator. Was that another ability he had? Whatever it was, she found herself standing near the fountain where the two union members she hadn't met yet continued to discuss something among themselves. She didn't hear he whole discussion and it looked like it was wrapping up, but Liam felt clearly displeased by it, but he had taken notice of Alexandra standing there, holding a stiff look on his face.

"Supposed to tag along, right? Fine...but I can't promise your safety." Alexandra could tell this wasn't intended to be as harsh at it was, in his mind it felt more like he was just stating facts rather than being rude, but Terra's annoyance meant she clearly caught it, though she kept a calm look on her face as well.

"This shouldn't be too difficult. You'll be helpful to verify the substance. We've already worked out a theory...it's impossible to verify at this moment....and there's not way of knowing if it's true just yet...but....we came to a conclusion. If it enables things to slip past psychics strong enough to sense all things in the world...the material in question may be...not from this world to begin with."

 

Alexandra looks up at Liam. "I'm aware of that. Focus on your own safety, and I'll look after myself."

The teacher blinks at Terra. "Extra terrestrial? From a meteorite, or something?"

"I think it's about time we just let the cards fall where they may. Do what you can." Medius offered some mild from of providing words of encouragement before Jack blinked. The cold breeze hit his face, and he could feels his hands touching cold metal behind him. Looking to see the source, the color and mild scratches on it...Adel's truck. She was leaning on someone else's vehicle in front of him taking a smoke...the same spot she was standing in before they went inside. Out in the parking lot. Adel didn't seem bothered by it, obviously aware of what had just happened, but not making conversation as she took a drag of her cigarette, but soon lifting her head up to take a look at Jack.

"I'm still not too in love with this whole idea, but...you guys seem deadset on doing it so...guess I'll just go along with it...except..if I decide that she absolutely does need to die, don't try to fight me on it, alright? I've been doing this for way longer than the two days you've been doing them for, got it?...but...I'm actually starting to think you could really do it. I dunno. Maybe."

 

The sudden shot ringing out was drawing a crowd, and that included the detective who had instinctively reached for her own gun, rising out of her seat and making a quick apology, pushing past the crowd to get a handle on the situation. Seeing the body, she was quick to get her badge out and make the order to stand clear, completely forgetting about her attempts to press him for what he knew currently.

Everyone's thoughts were a chaotic mess. A total storm of panic and fear, but an undercurrent began to set in his brain as a hushed whisper that first sounded incomprehensible, but it became more clear hearing it. It wasn't a complete mess. It was just a different language entirely. He could read the thoughts clearly, but it didn't mean he could just decipher meaning from languages he didn't understand.

A woman's cold calm tone that he couldn't see the physical source of with the whole crowd swarmed in one area. He could tell that it was somehow directed at him, but it continued to flow in rapid fire Japanese until slowly grinding to a halt, syllables changing slowly, clearly an active decision on her part.

Proud of yourself? You're rather quick to use your powers without a complete understanding of the situation. For all you know, he could have been aiming to confront a major druglord or was an undercover officer tracking a dangerous felon. But surely you know best. You always do. You really think that about yourself, don't you?

 

Terra was about to shake her head, but stopped. "It's only a theory. But...it's not impossible."

"Aliens...that means Felica is right...so that's not it." Liam gave a groan, refusing to accept the idea, Terra making a face similar to his, reluctant to acknowledge the thought.

"At any rate, we know people are getting their hands on it. We need to figure out who was giving it to Angela...that leaves me to suspect it was someone else not affiliated with any major group. But..I can't think of who'd have the means to get their hands on it, especially since it seems nobody is sure where it came from." Terra debated this, and Liam turned to face her, apparently having something to contribute.

"It has to get distilled somewhere. We can't figure out the point of origin, but it's take somewhere to get processed from a fluid into useable...if she gave the guy that stuff, she probably knows where...but if she does...the minute they think she's not crazy anymore, they'll destroy it so we won't be able to touch it...can't wait around to figure it out. But it has to be a place she knows and goes to without much trouble, right?...she's Jack's age.." He turned to look at Alexandra again. "You're a teacher right? You hear gossip. Older brothers and sisters...they probably hang out somewhere they don't let their shitty little brothers go. Know any places like that?"

 

"I know places, yeah. I've fetched enough truant students from them." She begins to list a number of hangouts that her students have tended to go.

Alexandra shrugs. "I don't know. A month ago I would have said that anyone who told me about what we are, and what we can do, belongs in a mental hospital. Now that I've found out that this is all real, aliens honestly don't seem particularly outlandish."

 

Liam's emotions didn't need to be read to see that he didn't agree. "Lot's of weird shit...but there's still rules to how it all works. You know what it actually is, right?"

"Don't start this again." Terra gave a sigh, but Liam wasn't dissuaded from staring at Alexandra with whatever knowledge he had about their origins.

"Witch's curse." It was two words, but he completely believed them while Terra sighed.

"Do you need me to explain how this is wrong?" Terra clearly didn't share the idea, but Liam still seemed adamant on his account of events.

"...they exiled her from her home a few thousand years ago during the crusades and she cast a plague to destroy the Templars and their invasion in retaliation. They managed to get her eventually, but she spread her soul into fragments between the high command after they returned home, possessing tons of nobles at once and they spread her bloodline across Europe and when it finally manifested in their children...it was serious shit. You know what really caused the Black Plague?" Liam was speaking unusually long sentences, clearly excited to share the information, no matter how unlikely to be reliable it actually was.

"Your evidence is circumstantial. That's only conjecture of our abilities being responsible something. Not like Jack The Ripper." Terra spoke flatly as well, their apparent version of history being far different from the one Alexandra had studied. The conversation between the two continued for a bit as they bickered before focusing back on the task at hand.

"They hang out in that shithole? Why?" Liam questioned one of the places that Alexandra had suggested, but Terra looked to be defensive. "It's not nice. But I do eat there since it's so close to my courses if I'm running late." The spot in question was a not so good restaurant outside of the university that Alexandra took her psychology courses, and the realization seemed to strike her at the same time it did with the other two, Liam speaking first as it occurred to him. "University....Science Labs..."

 

"Well, both ideas seem possible. Wait, the labs, they could be manufacturing it there. Do you guys have transport? Want to check it out?"

 

'If she goes crazy and attacks me or you, I won't object to us acting in self-defence,' Jack nodded, 'Well, I'm not sure how much help I can be, splashing her with water probably won't hurt her.'

 

Terra nods. "It's worth investigating, though naturally, I just teleported...makes things a little difficult if you aren't also able to do that...I haven't need to drive anywhere in years." The glassed girls pondered on it and Liam gave something of a similar look as the girl he was partnered up with.

"It's faster if we fly. You got telekinesis...would take way too long right now to teach you to do it though...guess we got to walk, unless you just want to take someone's car."

"Let's...hold off on that for now." Terra shot down the casual suggestion of stealing someone's vehicle, and Liam's face made it obvious how surprised he was that she wouldn't be in favor of it.

"Subway then."

 

"Ha! Wouldn't worry about it...I'm tougher than I look. Maybe I'll actually be able to use my power for once." Adel finished her smoke, letting it drop to the ground, extinguishing it with her foot, then proceeding to the driver's side of her vehicle, unlocked the passenger door for Jack.

 

"Sure." She follows them into the subway towards the university.

 

Boarding the train isn't an issue, Liam having at least thought to put on a jacket and button it up before arriving. The subway was as crowded and as busy as ever, people piling in and trying to squish for whatever space they could. The other two had stuck close to Alexandra during the exchange of people coming and going, bodies pushing against each other trying to get through whatever tight space they could...and she felt it. Just briefly. The unmistakable feeling of fingers digging into the flesh of her ass, someone trying to grope her on the busy platform. From Alexandra's position, the only two people she knew standing directly behind her were those two. Liam wasn't looking in her direction, more interested in staring out the window and Terra looked lost in her own thoughts. The other culprits ranged from a suspicious looking old man, to a rowdy bunch of young college guys or some fat leech who didn't even try to mask his stares burning into her body. All seemed possible and all unaware that even at Alexandra's level, she could still easily shatter their bones in an instant with telekinetic force if she really wanted to.
