So, I don't know if people are going to be for doing this, but if they are, I'm going to leave a character information thread. Name: Looks: Race: Level: ( Beginner classes start at lv.5. Intermediates are basically promoted classes and will start at lv. 1. Weak monsters start at higher levels, while more innately powerful ones will have to start at lower levels.) Class(Choose a beginner or intermediate to start. Monsters start with their monster specific class.) Beginner: Bard / Troubadour Cleric / Priest Dancer Fighter / Martial Artist Jester / Gadabout Mage Mariner / Sailor Shepherd Thief Warrior Intermediate: Dragoon / Gladiator Paladin Pirate Ranger / Armamentalist Sage Tamer / Monster Masher Luminary Advanced: Godhand / Champion Summoner / Druid Magic/Abilities: You'll have what abilities your class or race starts with and then three free slots for something unique to what your character can do. If anyone has suggestions on a better kind of character system, let me know. This is just my initial thoughts.
Estark. The true demon king. That which will swallow all pretenders. As Lord Of The Underworld, he was said to be already the most fearsome of demons. And as such he wanted to show it. He had no interest in magical artifacts or trinkets to obtain power. What he craved was for the power to make him a king to be his own. And he succeeded. The Secret of Evolution. He didn't steal his power or rely on any weapon to gift him with his strength. He created it. By becoming the ultimate lifeform, his rule was absolute. Even the Zenith Dragon who had thought he managed to seal Estark only succeeded because of one simple fact. The demon king having obtained perfection saw everything else as beneath him. What good was fighting his old nemesis when he had grown beyond it? As his pride grew, so did his weariness with the world. It was all so dull. There was nothing left that could match him anymore. The boredom had set in and even while the mightiest heroes had tried, none of them so much as got him to bother blocking or dodging their best attacks. With nothing left in the world to challenge him, he fell asleep and stayed like that even as we built the labyrinth around him. Now the demon king waits at the end for an opponent who can grasp his attention. Any demon wishing to use his his title as Demon King should fear his return when he strikes down all those who worship false idols. So, let this be a warning. Estark is a demon in name only. His evolution makes him something else entirely. We don't know what. Only that his power cannot be overstated. Allow him to sleep. Let him sleep for as long as possible. When he awakens, he will eat. He will keep eating until all of monsterkind is consumed. The humans would not think this is a bad thing, but Estark does not look for any distinction of species between races. He is evolution. His hunger is indiscriminate and everything shall be his prey. But made even worse, we know these warnings mean nothing. Someone will challenge him. And at the height of Mankind's Arrogance, the true demon king will take flight once more. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ "This...is quite the problem." Pulling the dagger out of the eye of the recently fallen headhunter, his face stiffened at seeing the continuing flood of monsters, the shadows visible even at night. The chaos of torches and pitchforks of villagers trying to defend himself and a mess of bodies on both sides. But it had to make him stop to look at it with confusion. "This isn't normal." This wasn't just a regular monster attack. This was a disorganized mess. Frenzied and panicked. He didn't have time to think on it as the sudden rush towards him of a horde of ghouls shuffling closer, their diseased skin and undead faces looking as mindless and hungry as usual. He didn't know if he would win this, but he wouldn't go down without a fight. Letting out a yell, he rushed the first to stab it in the eye, and readied his next dagger for the others...who kept walking right past him. They were shuffling as slow as zombies could, but tripping over themselves in an effort to run as fast as their dead limbs could carry them. The rest of the monster horde started to follow, in the same frenzied pace they had arrived, they were now leaving and not slowing down their attempts to do it as quickly as possible. He was sure of it now. They aren't attacking. They're running. He wanted to investigate further and find the answer, but the eruption of cheers from the villagers praising him for something he didn't really do drowned him out. At least they survived for now. He started to walk ahead to join them, but froze about two steps of the way as his head had to turn up to see it over the night sky. He saw it. The moon swallowing light. He knew nothing could be done, so he kept walking towards the villagers ignoring the brief change all the while unable to enjoy the victory party, only capable of wondering what this meant. ____________________________________________________________ "How can my own people be this stupid? We'll survive! I am the Great Mortamor! King of the demon realm! My rule is absolute!" He shouted the orders out loud in front of four of his generals. The empty two seats noticeable for what was supposed to be the full six. He wasn't the most powerful of demon kings, but more cunning than his predecessors. He knew the truth. Painfully aware of it, but knowing what showing weakness would do in front of his troops. Murdraw, the fat scaly lizard had enjoyed his role in Mortamor's army, but his face showed how he felt it was coming to an end. "...but it's true, isn't?" ___________________________________________________________ This sucks. I didn't sign up for this. A wash bucket and rags. That was his weapon. He wanted to be a terror in the night. But he was only an imp. And everyone knew it. All the big races got to cause all the chaos they wanted, but he was stuck at the bottom of the ladder and there was no other option. "Will you just shut up and listen! Estark isn't invincible!" The little imp stopped as he heard the shouting. Mortamor was angry. The wizard wasn't meant to be messed with, but he sounded worried. His curiosity getting the better of him, he had to stop to listen in on the general's meeting. "We should be trying to find places to hide! He'll eat everyone!" Are they talking about Estark? But that's just a story to scare bad kids....right? Mortamor slammed his hands down on the table. "Heh. Think about it. Estark is only scary because he has the Secret of Evolution. Then we just need it too. Then not even any legendary hero would have a chance against us anymore. The demon realm will reign supreme!" The Secret of Evoultion...but that's not a real thing, is it? But they're sure talking like it is. "But, boss. We need to get the Secret from Estark in the first place, don't we?" "Heh. Don't underestimate me. I'm still a demon king for a reason. My plan is perfect. We'll beat down Estark, I'll absorb his power and there will be no heroes left to oppose me. The reign of darkness will reach a golden age." So it's true? Estark is real? And he's going to eat Mortamor? Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. The imps thoughts then thought more on it. But the power to evolution is real? That means...even I could be strong? ___________________________________________________________ Gathered in a derelict church was a band of monsters. Shapes, sizes, colors. It didn't matter. From slimes to golems trying to squat down to not block other people's view, they had gathered to see what the feathered woman who stood in the center had to say. "You all know. He's returning. Mortamor wants us to work for him, but why should we? He's the one whose going to get eaten for being a false king. But if we don't work for Mortamor anymore, Estark won't eat us. We can be saved. You just have to renounce Mortamor and carry out the will of the true demon king instead." The crowd launched into murmurs with them not able to reach agreement on what they were hearing. "We won't die. We'll show Estark that we're loyal to him and he'll keep our friends and family alive." She spoke with confidence. Enough that the others started to listen more to her words. She believed them too. This wasn't the end. There had to be a way out of this. She would be spared. "We won't die. We'll serve the rightful king and we'll come back, better than ever. We will survive." _______________________________________________
Name: Mogmak Looks: Race: Half-Troll Level: 5 Class: Warrior Skills: Warrior Skills: 8 Whipping Boy(Baits enemies into attacking you instead.) 16 Natural Strength +10 28 Whistle(Lures enemies out into the open.) Troll Skills: Fire Breath Frenzy(Passive): The attacker may completely lose it and launch a desperate(critical) attack. Sometimes even on ally. Unique Skills: Weird Whacker (Attack with chance to cause confusion) Hatchet Man (All or nothing critical attack) Mercurial Thrust (Attack with immense priority in the turn order, though the power is reduced to 80% Spoiler: Background Born from an anatomically confusing drunken night of passion between a troll and a human, Mogmak was always an outsider in her tribe of trolls. Being smaller and more feminine than her brethren, she was the target of sustained bullying for her entire childhood, leading her to study deeply the art of combat. As such, she's far more skilled at fighting than your average troll, since she couldn't rely on overwhelming size and strength. Deciding that she had little care for a tribe that didn't respect her, Mogmak left her village as soon as she became a woman grown, with little ambition other than to satiate her base desires and prove herself as a great warrior. Joining a company of human mercenaries, she found a home temporarily, befriending them and learning from them the human language. However, all good things come to an end, and so most of the company was wiped out in a demon attack. Alone again, Mogmak travels the lands, fighting and fucking, with the twin aims of becoming the greatest warrior in the land, and destroying demons to avenge her fallen friends.
Yeah, that’s fine. Since the format of the game shifted to skill trees, it occurs to me level up is different. For a warrior of your level, your abilities with skills points probably are: 8 Whipping Boy(Baits enemies into attacking you instead.) 16 Natural Strength +10 28 Whistle(Lures enemies out into the open. Probably a decent amount of utility for it in a roleplaying game.) Trolls have high hp and natural resistances, but not a single drop of magic power, though a half troll might have magical utility. Boss trolls do get some useful skills though. They do naturally get cover, but it doesn't matter since your warrior skill does the same thing. For their natural abilities I'd probably go with: Fire Breath(It's a biological trait of a lot of monsters so pretty sure they can use it and it doesn't cost any magic. It's relatively weaker than most actual spells though.) Frenzy(Passive): The attacker may completely lose it and launch a desperate(critical) attack. Sometimes even on ally. Then you'd have three slots for something to give your character.
Name: Goobriella ("Brie" or "Gabriella") Looks: Link (Armor ignore the girl) Race: Slime Level: ? Class: Slime Knight Magic/Abilities: *Heal - Heals Damage *Helm Splitter - Deals Damage and Reduces the Target's Defense (And reduces clothes to sexy tatters) *Buff - Temporarily Increases an Ally's Defense Slime Abilities: *Limited Shapeshifting – Brie can reorganize the matter of her body to alter her shape, or squeeze through tight spots. Mass remains the same. *Split Off – Can remove a piece of slime from her body to a create miniature version of herself that is capable of healing magic Unique: *Slimewall (Aquawall) - Protects the user from a single attack, breath attack, or status ailment. *Double Up - An attack dealing increased damage, but also takes more damage in turn. *Drain Magic - Drains SP from a target. Spoiler: Background Not all knights ride mighty horses. Goobriella is determined to show that everyone can reach new heights so long as they're willing to try to go beyond what is expected of them. That there are natural differences in the capabilities in both monsters and the different races is undeniable, but hard work can bridge this gap and there are other ways too - like teamwork. But there's also an ability that has been lost to monsters, the Secret of Evolution, that had been used by the mythical Demon King Estark to grow in power. If she can discover that technique and share it with those seen as too weak to defend themselves then they can gain the confidence that their efforts will surely be rewarded. Since there's a reason it's called the Secret of Evolution, knowing where to begin can be difficult, so the peppy knight traveled aimlessly between villages and towns, aiding those in need she encounters on the road, man and monster, while hoping to uncover some hint of Evolution on her way. Being a Slime, of course, means her intentions are, at times, misunderstood. Her enthusiasm is boundless despite that however, and even if it ends up in vain then it's enough to know that those acquaintances she has helped and memories made on the way will be enough. The white-beared slime telling her all those stories and myths as a young ball of blue gloop and who also taught her swordsmanship had told her the journey was just as important as the destination. He was fond of saying wise things like that, at least she assumed they were as Goobrielle rarely understood the meaning behind his cryptic utterances. Especially when muttering about prophecies. Following the rumors of Estark's imminent return, this journey has taken on a more serious tone. The Demon King Mortamor's forces are searching for the same thing that Goobriella is, so following after them will hopefully turn something concrete up. They're also causing havoc where they go, bullying monsters into following them, giving her more reason to stay close to them and disrupt their plans. Those who fallen to despair and joined with the Estark's cultist are often worse, driven by nihilism instead of hope for the future. She'll do her best to save them too. Once they are gone or have changed their ways, humans will also have less reason to fear monsters. Until then she will lead by example and show that monsters can be nice as well! Although not shy, rather the opposite and quite clingy with friends, she wears a full set of armor to cover up her body in order to avoid any misunderstandings. The slime has a tendency to leak through the cracks when she doesn't pay enough attention, while any clothes she wears are always slightly damp, making the attempt less successful than it often can be.
Alright. Just curious. That all seems fine. I think I'm going to have it be-3 class abilities-2 racial skills-3 unique skills. That should give people a decent amount of skills to work with even if they are relatively low level, they'll be decently strong for their level.
Well I made a post for your slime. Once I get more info on the background of Tjf's character, I'll be able to add them in.
All right, I've posted my skills and background. Let me know if I did anything incorrectly. BTW, I'm thinking of maybe getting a Dragon Quest game. The newest one is 11. Should I get that, or will I not understand the story?
Well, I haven’t played it, though it didn’t look too good for me to want to pick up myself. Especially since they want back to default stock protags instead of using a character designer so it’s kind of a step back. The story isn’t typically dependent on playing other games. Some imply that some of the games don’t even take place on the same planet, so you probably don’t need to know a lot? But I cant say how good it is. It actually lucks a little watered down since nine which is the last I played. Ten is an mmo, so arguably it doesn’t count.
11 is fine as a standalone. They're a bit like Final Fantasy in that respect. Played through it and the game has some nice twists. Very heavy story-focused game, both for the characters who and join and the main story. Less freedom in terms of character build, however, with the set characters and skill trees. Post-game for 9 is also supposed to be quite expansive from what I've heard, if that's a your cup of tea. In the end, both are fine games.
Name: Yuuto Looks: Spoiler: Picture Race: Human Level: 1 Class: Paladin Class Abilities Innate Thwack: Can potential instant kill an "unholy" enemy in one hit (be it a malevolent monster or a human who has turned their back on the ways of the Goddess), with the chance rising as he gains levels (but still relative to Thwack's incredibly low percentage of success). Magic Wall: A shield he can summon that protects him and allies from magical attacks. Farewell: Should his allies be severely damaged and their deaths all but certain, he can use this Ability that will heal all of them back to full but will leave him very close to death's door or outright kill him in the process. Spells Heal/Midheal/FullHeal: Can heal himself or an ally, with the spell upgrading as he gains levels Buff/Kabuff: Can make his own body or the bodies of allies tougher to withstand more punishment in battle, spell also upgrades as he gains in levels Zoom: He does not remember how or when he learned this spell but if he remembers having been some place before, he can cast it and will fly himself and whoever is holding onto him to that location so quickly that it is almost instantanious Unique Abilities Undead Undoer: Any weapon he wields does extra damage to Undead-class monsters Devilcut: Same as above but in relation to Demon-class monsters Dragon Slash: Also same as above but in relation to Dragon-class monsters Background To anyone who heard Yuuto's basic story, they would have assumed he was the most cliched "Legendary Hero" of all time. He was found washed up on shore one day on near a small, unremarkable village with no belongings save for the wet clothes on his back, a water-logged letter with nothing legible save for the name "Yuuto" on the envelope, and a strange brand on his throat. The small boy was taken in by the Priest that was the village's spiritual leader and her Martial Artist husband and his childhood was mostly unremarkable and quiet. In fact, it was extra quiet. The brand on his throat, which the Priest had not figured out the exact meaning of but knew it was some form of ancient writing related to an older religion dedicated to the Goddess, had been seared into him in such a way that it had burnt his vocal cords and would leave him mute for the rest of his life. He still learned much under the care of his adoptive parents, with his mother teaching him much about spiritual matters as his father taught him things of physical matters. As he grew he helped defend the town from wild animal and monster attacks, and his fellow defenders noticed he seemed to have an easier time of it against certain creatures than most, as if the Goddess had somehow blessed him with a power that made him a bane to evil. His healing skills were also second to none, quickly exceeding anything his mother could perform and again, it seemed as if the Goddess had blessed him in that respect as well. One day, news of strange changes in the behavior of monster hordes reached his village and something inside of him stirred. He did not know why, but he was certain that this change meant he had to be out in the world, fighting, healing, and helping whoever and however he could. His parents did not stop him, for they had learned the true story of his origin that they swore to never tell. There had been a cult, an obscure sect of those who worshiped the Goddess, that had decided they would not wait for a Legendary Hero to be born by natural means to challenge Estark's inevitable awakening. They took a child of one of their own, marked him with the symbol and power of the Goddess, stealing his voice and memories and cast him into the sea to let fate bring him to his destiny. The Goddess, enraged by the cult's torturous blasphamy, cast them into the sea as well but showed mercy on the innocent child, letting only him survive and drift to the land of his adopted family. He is a False Hero, but an earnest one. And in times such as these, even that may be able to do some actual good.
Hmm. I mean that's all mostly fine, though I don't know about giving a passive instant kill ability even at low levels. Maybe as a spell. Just not as a catch all to any move. A full party magic barrier is generally a more late game ability too, maybe if it starts as single target, that's fine. Zoom is a incredibly useful spell, so I'll allow it for the party convenience. Farwell is basically like Kerplunk then, right? Or at least behaves similarly. Two paladins in the party is a interesting situation, though their skill sets vary enough that they can do different jobs than each other. Leaves Mogmak to do the bulk of the offensive, but that's fine. No dedicated caster yet, but I was thinking depending on how things go the Count might potentially fill that role if he's convinced...or some other slot filler npc. So is he a mute then? Makes sense as a protag thing, though communication might be an issue.
I can move Thwack to being just a spell he can cast, yeah. I was basing his Paladin-ness off the DQVII version of it, since that's the one I'm currently playing, which does have that ability but if it might break the game then I can tone it down no problem. And I'm fine with Magic Wall starting off in a weaker, single target form that expands in levels as well.. And yeah, Farewell is a Class-Specific version of Kerplunk. He's mute, but he's hopefully going to be pretty expressive and, worse comes to worse, he knows how to write so if he gets a pen and paper he can write out what he needs to say.
Never really tried playing Dragon Quest. I'm trying to piece together a Level 5 Mage but I'm kind of at a loss what stuff to pick from all that in the Wiki.
I intended to generally go for ice, maybe some buff/debuffs and utility spells. I know Crack and Crackle are ice, though the stuff you learn on levels is so different in every game it's kind of confusing.
I mean, you don't need to focus on the exact names. As long as I understand the general idea of what you want, that's fine. For utility spells, evac is really useful since it lets you escape dungeons and caves instantly. Safe Passage is also fantastic since it lets you move through dangerous terrain. Holy Protection lowers monster encounter rates, so some variation of that might be good.
