If I can m ake a suggestion, I'd update the chyoa guide on: - Difference between owner, editor, author - Difference in detail between public, moderated, private stories All pretty important to fully understand
Good job, thanks. You wrote pretty much everything. I also like how the "abandoned" stories are handled. One of the main objectives of the site in my opionion is to NOT have authors wait too much (more than one week) to see their work published.
The site is more simple and more stories (even ones around years ago) are getting more noticed. That's a big plus for me!
Just a little suggestion: - The possibility to see all comments of a story is great, but there's no way to link one comment to the chapter it is referring to
Hey Guys, I just wanted to put in a big thanks to Friedman & everyone who has put in work on the new Chyoa site. I've been overseas for Xmas holidays and I was pleasantly surprised to find a very handy mobile phone (Cellphone to you yanks, methinks) version that worked beautifully while traveling around Asia. I love the new notification system too, it's so encouraging to see that people are bookmarking your chapters and 'liking' your stories. It's very validating and has motivated me to get back into my stories again. Thanks again to the development team. The new site is fantastic; well designed and easy to use. It really leaves the old site in the dust . - Meno
fixed margin. I usually used the old notification to "mark" stories with unread chapters (I didn't clicked the notification until I read every chapter). Now it seems to be harder to do sth. like that. In my eyes, the starting page is some unclear. At the moment, most informations on the left side are useless for me. It would be really nice, if there would be the possibility to use custom "designs" basing on predefined components (e.g. "recently updated" with parameter "multi-language"/"english"/"german" (maybe checkboxes) to filter out unnecessary stuff; depending on the performance issues (caching?) it would be also nice to have additional filter for categories) Navigation for writers could have some improvements like stated in above postings. Same for fixed header. *impatiently waiting for the release of the value/score feature*
Some additional thoughts: -the ability to click on a comment/rating and go straight to the relevant chapter -something identifying the story the notification is for (believe I already mentioned that, though) -chyoo had an option for the author to make notes when submitting the story. I tended to use it as a place to jot ideas for future chapters. Sure, I could do that in comments here, but it seemed the sort of thing that should be hidden because it's like a notes-to-self thing, and a bit of a spoiler -notifications for dislikes as well as likes -notification and a place to see your status on different stories. ie, a list of stories where you are owner/editor/author -Improved way to mark a contributor as owner/editor/author on your own stories
The gradually loading story map disagrees with one way I like to use it -- searching in-page for a chapter title. I also worry that if the story map is dynamically loading dependent on viewport/scroll, that I can't use the map to crawl the story for a backup. Super ouch. Should I try crawling it anyway? The new site contains the same lack of distinguishing owner from creator, similar to the old site. If a story is changed in ownership, the new owner is listed as creator, while the "Introduction" thread is still correctly attributed. Enough stories have changed hands that I think this is more than a small issue.
On the user page, when clicking on chapters. I've see almost all I have written before. Even after I click at the bottom "Load More Chapters" until it goes away. or when "An error occurred. Please try again later." I don't know if that is why I can't see other chapters. Like in the story https://chyoa.com/story/Breed-Island.1950 I know I've did one there that still in review since January last year. But it will not show up on my Chapters tab on my user page. Would there be a tab made available to see chapters that are in review or would that be on the chapters tab itself?
Let me turn this into a suggestion, since it just bit me again ("Where's my chapter? Oh, too far down." ...scroll, scroll, scroll): I would like the option of loading the story map as a single complete document, ignoring the scroll behavior. Most of the dynamic formatting has been a negative experience for me overall. The site is harder to navigate than Chyoo or Chyoa v1.
Thanks! However, it serves the purpose to display large story maps like Create a wrestler with nearly 10,000 chapters. I've increased the chapters per page from 500 to 1,000. Only 11 stories have more than 1,000 chapters.
Can you also add some kind of _CLEAR_ way to tell that you've actually gotten to the bottom and loaded all the chapters? How about a symbol or just a line of text that says something like --- End of list ---. Otherwise it's not clear if there was a time out/issue with loading them all. How about a "loaded XUZ of ABC chapters" at the bottom of the page? I gave this kind of feed back before (I'm sure I did?) and I Don't think any one replayed to me.
Slut World's map is > 1000 chapters? It's still incrementally loading for me. https://chyoa.com/story/Slut-World.5757/map Not sure where to look where I could get a chapter count for a story. By inspection of a page snapshot (after scrolling down) I see the number of chapter links is...1139. (And growing). Darn.
Underlining "Save as Draft". For me, it's actually the biggest usability improvement over Chyoo 1, Chyoo 2, and Chyoa 1. (Well, I suppose the Story Map in Chyoo 2 was maybe the biggest usability improvement in our history).
Hi all, new to the site here and just getting my feet wet with my first story. Lovely job on the site overall. It's fast becoming my favorite place to write. Just one suggestion (someone had mentioned it earlier)--can negative votes be accompanied by a private comment to the author? Or at least allow the voter to provide a comment to the author. I believe all writers would like the opportunity to use feedback to improve their work. When I get a negative vote I'm not sure if it's the fetish that the reader is responding negatively to or the actual way the scene is written. If Chyoa implements this comment feature, I think it'd be great. thanks all
I must say I've been pretty happy with the way Notifications work together with the authors followed and favorite stories. I think that's been a good mechanism for making the story site more social and collaborative.
Ability to collapse the right side menu in chapter / story view would be nice, that way it won't use up a large portion of the screen when viewing on an iPad for instance
