Huh. Even Danzo? That's... interesting reason not to participate. But I can understand it and respect it.
On the inverse, I never liked Naruto that much, so probably will pass. That and I just don’t really find the art style and most of the character designs all that good either. Of course, you can find fan art of characters that makes them appear way better looking then they actually are in the actual show but, overall…mostly just not taken in by the looks of about half of them.
So the reasons for not wanting to start this are: 1.Like Naruto. 2.Don't like Naruto. Wow. That's a turn So, generally, the Naruto RP is a bad idea?
I mean canon/au universes are always a little iffy regardless. I still like the other two ideas you had before a bit better, with serving evil forces. Though were it up to me it wouldn’t be super dark and more in the vein of things like Disegea which incorporates villain protogainsts and black comedy. Not that series exactly, but something like the concept. I dunno
Played that one for a bit...didn't really like it myself. I mean...yeah, you're playing as a villain, but....I just found it still formulaic and kind of boring. But I didn't play it for long enough either to know all that happens. Which is odd, because I usually genuinely like most of what Obisdian has to offer and they are usually good at being self aware and subverting expectations...Tyranny, sure you're evil, but it still plays the characters predictably and unironically and throws in some pointless rape backstories to characters to try and make it seem edgy. Not that Nippon Ichi hasn't done that. I liked Soul Nomads despite the cliched story there too. The gameplay is still fun, I mean. But...then they throw in this completely pointless minor badguy who just exists to have the one girl raped. She's not even an important character either, even on the demon route. She just exists so an edgy backstory element can happen and it adds absolutely nothing. Then they do it again in Coven, where the witch there...just kind of gets raped in it for no real reason other than to be edgy. Again, it adds nothing. Granted, the whole thing is she's a puppet and doesn't have any real reactions anymore but it's just uneccesary like all the gore deaths she gets throughout the game and sure, she comes back, and she doesn't technically exist but they serve no other purpose to the game than to just be like "See how dark and edgy, we can get?" Which is bizzare, because the main series is super good of knowing rpg tropes and subverting them(Unless you're five, where again, let's just be edgy and play all the same cliches same and hope nobody notices.), but the spin offs tend to kind of lean towards just....way too much pointless evil and rape just to have rape scenes. Witch and the Hundred Knight is a shining example. You have a much eviler than the normal standards of the series character. She's an evil witch and not potrayed as just mildly jerkish like Laharal or Mao. She's pure evil....but the problem is, she's just too evil to make a story around. She has her mother gang raped and murdered, and it's supposed to be played for laughs? Oh, but it's okay. She's sick and has a sad backstory so I guess that redeems her character and forgives everything she does.....no. There's a reason why that game is obscure in the library, because while you can have evil characters you can't really just make them pointlessly evil for the sake of it and figure the character is reedemed if you just say it is. As much as I love most disegea games...it's bizzare. Most of the main games are goofy and fun and serious when they need to be, but for spin off games they kind of just go..."Let's be super edgy and gratuitous. If it's super edgy that automatically makes a game good."
You do realize, that Naruto world is not that 'good'? The story has themes of: child soldiers, assassinations, seduction and interrogation, torture, kidnaping of bloodlines for breeding, genocide, human experimentation, cannibalism, propaganda and indoctrination... and many more, all in the main plot. I was planning on allowing characters to either follow a path of either - darkness or light. The choice would give players choice in what missions they would prefer... But it seems so far, I am completely missing with my RP ideas so far
I'm not familiar enough with Naruto to say whether i'd enjoy something in that setting. I lost interest in the series very early. I am interested in getting into an RP. Something a bit darker and more serious, but I don't know how much interest there is for that here.
I mean...darker just makes me hesitant. We still do rape and stuff in games all the time. Where exactly would you take that to do more? Making the game harder for the sake of it, doesn't really add anything in my mind. Kind of like...yes, I know Dark Souls is hard, so that makes it good. ...the story is still boring. The characters are flat. And it looks like shit. For the sense of rp, people put a lot of work into trying to find characters they like. Setting things up so they more or less get killed or enslaved right away, doesn't really spell better to me. You can always make new characters and I do, but if you know your new one is just going to be killed off right away again, it doesn't really incentivize caring about putting any real work into even bothering at that point because you know any work you put into is more or less just getting thrown into the garbage. I dunno. That's just my take on it. Maybe that's not totally fair, though my view point is more just making characters more prone to bad endings doesn't really improve anything. If anything, it seems like that's more likely for the game to die since a good number of players would just stop caring.
Darker doesn't necessarily mean darker than anything else that's been done before nor does it mean a high death chance for the PC's. I'm already aware that harder RPG's aren't on the table after I suggested a bunch of post-apocalypse RPG ideas. I also fully get the reluctance to take part in something like that. i guess Villainous might be a better term....something like a less comedic Evil Genius*, or Knights of the Nightmare... *Note that I didn't stop playing in Evil Genius because of the comedy, but because of real life nonsense
I don't know what my plan was for that really. But it was with inspiration taken from franchises like Disegea in the first place. I also attribute a lot of it to my writing skills not being really developed how many years ago, and I'm more competent with my writing now which also changes my execution of things somewhat.
In int close future, I don't intend to start any large project. Maybe later, but certainly not this month.
Hey majus this idea might be something I'd be down to join. Also I'd like to ask the following: 1.) if there is any possibility of a SW RP something similar to your SW warlord RP (ik alot of people loved this) 2.) Is the (quests) Star Wars is still something your doing?
