So, I was wondering if the best way to grow my story was to either stick to a consistent release schedule (Lets say 1 chapter per night as an example) or mass release a tonne of chapters with a longer time gap between each release. And my story has a fair amount of branches (nothing too crazy, like maybe 6-7) Should I focus on one particular branch till I finish it, or do multiple branches at the same time?
I recommend regular or irregular releases of single chapters. Advantages: - Your story appears more often on the front page. So it might be more visible for users who don't know it yet. An irregular release schedule might get you better visibility for different time zones and individual reader habits. - Readers can have a small piece of the story per day/week/schedule period. Readers who don't like that might just ignore the notification until there is a larger chunk to read. Disadvantages: - Notifications for new chapters might not be as visible as they are mixed with a lot of other notifications. - Some readers might prefer reading larger chunks. Though they could just ignore the notifications a few times. For a Game Mode story, I think a broad approach might be useful. Otherwise, readers might follow the notification only to see that their save game doesn't offer a new option. In this case, I think it might be advantageous to publish a few chapters in a shorter period of time but still not at once. For stories without Game Mode, it might not make much difference. Adding a chapter to each branch will serve everyone, but at the same time, some readers might like to read larger chunks. So I would rather go with your writing preferences.
I see, thank you very much for your advice, I'll stick with the single chapter irregular release strategy. My chapter isnt really something I'd call a game mode story, so I suppose I'll just write a whole branch in advance and publish each chapter one at a time. Again, thank you so much for your help!
