The senate is already debating the 8-th hour, and it doesn't look as if they are going to finish anytime soon. The current crisis was escalated with the closing of the 'Star Hub' network of restaurants, which left hundreds of workers without jobs. This prompted widespread protests, that soon changed into violent riots that lasted for three days...” The senate building The room erupted in chaos. “Order! Order!” The speaker tried to speak through the cacophony of voices. A few more minutes passed. “Order!” Finally, after a few minutes, the room became more or less quiet. “We shall renew the voting!” The speaker announced loudly. “We shall now proceed to the next order of meeting! Shawn Delisle’s proposition of taking a loan from the Asari Republics to support the small bushiness-” The moment the speaker stopped speaking, the room erupted in chaos again.
@Omega98 @Tjf Jean and Jacob sat next to each other, waiting for the vote to commence – but due to chaos, it looked like they would have some time to discuss the voting between each other. Shawn scowled seeing the chaos. “Fools! Don’t they see that we have to borrow money to save our economy!?” The woman sitting next to him, a fellow senator, Clara Moliner, answered him. “They see it as further putting our state under the thumb of Asari Republics.” She shrugged. “For some of them, it’s no different than an occupation." She sighed. "And since we are one of the rulling parties, they will be blaming us for all of the troubles."
@NOTHING HERE Blake handed back the datapad to his assistant, Symania Ernala and looked at the pandemonium that erupted after the latest declaration “Aren’t they shameless?” The woman sitting next to him asked, shaking her head. “First JL spends the money left and right, then when the trouble starts, they grab Asari’s skirt and beg for help...” The woman sitting next to him, was a fellow RHP senator, Irene Alcalde.
Blake Orange looks at her before responding " I suppose they are but what can they do now that the money have run dry but beg something , although i am surprised to hear that they want to beg the Asari for money and the not the Inheritor states it would have been a better option in the long run "Says Blake now looking back at the chaos unfolding
Irene shrugged. "Asari are known factor. They want Sanctum Mesa a buffer state, so they will help - for a price, of course. Inheritor states... well, this is one mess that can develop either way... depending on their internal dynamics. They might even demand the Republic to join them... or force annexation." The woman sighted. "The question is, how should we react?"
Blake sighs before responding "As much i despise allowing Asari even more influence over our state we should vote yes for the loan if not we may have a revolt on our hand and our military is not ready for that "
Irene chuckled. "Not a fun of blue tits, eh?" Her face turned sour at the mention of the military. "Our entire state is a mess... and the current situation and senate..." She shook her head. "It's like every party is trying to pull the Senate in it's direction, slowly ripping it apart." The woman sighted. "If we vote for, we might lose voters and some support... Maybe we should... abstain?" She turned to look back at Blake. "For the safety of our beliefs."
Blake looks at her before responding " You know what you are right we will not lose support over their faults they made this situation they can fix themselves we will abstain unless they come to beg for our support with some very generous offer.Thanks you Irene for your advice "
Irene nodded as she absently observed the proceedings. "You are welcome." She paused before turning to face Blake. "Do you have any plans?" She asked as she waved her hand. The gesture was quite random, pointing at the chamber around them.
Jean sat quietly while Clara made her observation. The redhead didn't like aliens, she tried to hide it but anyone who knew her knew the truth. While she might carry a "Justice League" party card, her heart belonged with the Radical Homeland Party. She agreed with them that she'd rather not take the loan, but she knew that the colony was in dire financial straits. Plus, if she could convince her husband to divert the lion's share of the sum towards a few venture capital opportunities a number of her "business friends" had mentioned, the colony would be able to reap the rewards and use the profits to fund other endeavors. If she could convince Shawn. She patted her husband's knee to reassure him. "Most know of the necessity of the loan. It will pass, I'm sure."
The man grumbled as he pushed her hand away. It's been a long time since he accepted any form of care from her. "Doesn't change that they will use this to their advantage and milk it as much as those parasites can! Even if it means that the state might burn." he answered angrily, but quickly schooled his face, putting the mask of calmness back on.
Jean felt her jaw tense at her husband's behavior, but said nothing. Instead she glanced towards Jacob, hoping for his support.
"Of course the people are angry." Jacob sighs. "They're starving, and they've latched onto conspiracy theories to give them hope." He looks at his father and mother. "We need the loans, but for the right reasons, to support the people."
"The colony would be in a better position to support the people if we were stable financially." Kelly thought to herself but kept her mouth shut and face neutral. Such things would be better said in private than in, literally, a public forum where anyone could hear.
@NOTHING HERE @Tjf @Omega98 "Order!" The speaker's voice finally ripped through the room. "We will now start voting!" The senate became quieter, as everyone prepared to vote. "All for, push the button and raise your hand!" There was a pause as those who voted for raised their hands. "All against, push the button and raise your hand!" Again a pause. "Abstain..."
Seeing her expression, Jacob's expression softens. "Of course, for that, we need this loan first." He gives her a nod of support. Jacob presses the button and raises his hand.
Although she didn't care for it, Jean voted to pass the proposition and raised her hand. With any kind of luck that wasn't bad, they'd be able to pay back the loan quickly and then be financially stable enough to not need another.
@Omega98 @Tjf The family waited as the votes were being counted... Clara hummed. "Once we have the funds, what should we start doing with them?" She asked. "We had a couple of general ideas and a couple of plans, but it all depends on how generous are Asari with their money..." The blond hummed.
@NOTHING HERE @Tjf @Omega98 Before further discussions could continue, the speaker started talking again. "The voting is concluded!" He declared. "44 for, 45 against, 12 abstained. I hereby declare that the motion has failed to get the majority and has not passed!" The room erupted in pandemonium.
