As Gatsha said, it's not like anybody knew that such a conversation was happening except for the handful of discord regulars who happened to be online. My time is precious and I'd rather spend what I have of it writing. I can't be chasing down forums and discords to keep up with this stuff.

I'm glad I found this thread about the opt out options but I wonder how many writers are going to bother checking the forums. I fear that 'add an AI chapter' thing (gross!) may be a huge turn off for new creators. It sure was to me.

Agreed! I generally avoid linking to my chyoa stories anymore for just this issue. I like the idea of black bars over the filtered words to show that the work has been censored. Simply removing words with no indication reflects poorly on the work and the author. With the black bars at least...

Just out of curiosity now that it's been brought up, @Friedman have you/do you/will you share work on chyoa to folks using it for AI training?

I am of the opinion that it is not de facto the same because the person is a person and the AI is not.

Oh yeah, I know that. We can't do much to have it being taken from us, the least we can do is not to provide it willingly though. Perhaps a pointless distinction but an important one to me.

Ugh. Can't say that I'm thrilled with all the AI stuff all over chyoa lately, though I do understand that bills need to be paid. I do hope that our work isn't being provided to train AI though.

I'm not at all surprised by this. The credit cards/banks/paypal really allow very little wiggle room on this stuff. The wild west days of the internet are truly dead, we've done gone civilized. :( As a last resort you might want to contact Smashwords and see how they get away with offering...

In the long run Chyoa needs something stable though. Trying a work around or loop hole will probably only fly for so long.
