Maybe it's just me but I've been seeing that chapter counts and chapter depth counts on stories haven't been accurate lately.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. When I edit my page, all the invisible tags created by the rich text editor sort of... like, slide around randomly when I save it? For example, I'll make a perfectly working line break in the preview field, or make some text bold, and save the changes to my story, and then when I load it again, now it says __ on one line and ____ on the next line instead of ______, or the bold text **s have stopped functioning because now there's a space between them and the text they're supposed to be wrapping. I'm literally deducing what the ML tags are by seeing which new characters appear in my text when the formatting stops working. Related: Is there any way to just turn off the rich text editor, so I can just see what all the actual code is, and fix it if it's broken? Because if not, that would be a great feature to add. Thank you. Edit: I figured it out. I had to use the triangle in the top right corner of the website, click Settings, and disable it from there. 2nd edit: My bad I skimmed over the part where it says not to use the / sorry guys the software and the documentation are both working well. 3rd edit: Wait... then where did the / come from in the first place back when I was using the RTE? 4th edit: Figured it out. I was using RTE to make a block of text bold, then making the end of one line non-bold, then adding a space at the front of the line for whitespace manipulation reasons. The expected output of this was something like: **____Niki____** **Level 3 Warrior** **Shield Bash** - stun and/or push back an enemy **+Enhanced Speed** **+Enhanced Strength** but instead I'd get something like: **____Niki____ Level 3 Warrior Shield Bash **- stun and/or push back an enemy** +Enhanced Speed +Enhanced Strength** ...which seems to work at first glance? But I guess it's "fragile" to further RTE editing somehow. I'm just gonna leave RTE turned off I think. Thanks again. 5th edit: The phantom backslash / might have been coming from me changing a variable name while leaving the text of an old variable name in the story. This caused the pages to auto-generate escape characters to display the old {variable_name} as a string literal instead of a variable, or something. In at least one instance, the escape character seems to have appeared at the front of a line.
The chapter content is saved in Markdown syntax. When using RTE, the Markdown is converted into RTE format and back every time you edit/save the chapter. With RTE deactivated, you can also use certain Markdown syntax that won't work after you edit and save a chapter with RTE. So depending on what syntax you used, it might work or not. I think RTE has some problems when you format something one way and remove the formatting for a part of the line afterward. It might also make a difference whether you format something "without a space at the end" or "with a space at the end ". While RTE doesn't mind, Markdown might not interpret that correctly. Just ran into some unexpected behavior, and it caused me to nuke one of my chapters. If you select "Edit Chapter" on a published or draft chapter, then select "Delete Chapter" on the right side - It deletes the Chapter you're currently viewing. Perfect. If you select "Add a New Chapter", then select "Delete Chapter" on the right side (I was expecting it to delete the unfinished one I was viewing, ie the same behavior as the Cancel button), it instead deletes the Chapter you just came from. Might be good to clarify that text and warning.
Yikes. That sounds pretty dangerous. Check in Recently Deleted Chapters, you may be able to recover it as per Section 6 of the Add Chapter/Edit Chapter page of the CHYOA Guide: If you deleted a Chapter by accident, you have seven days to recover it. To recover a Chapter, go to the Recently Deleted list, click on the ellipsis next to the Chapter you want to restore and choose "Recover Chapter".
Well that makes me feel dumb. I didnt know that was an option, so I just went ahead and re created it. If I restored, I'd have two. Live and learn.
It's unlikely I'm the first to discover this, but whatever spell-checker you're using, it doesn't seem to recognize the word "slickening."
Well, that Delete button shouldn't be there anyway. I'd guess the verb "slicken" is British dialect for the verb "slick"
Hi! Don't know if this is the right place to put this, but every time I click on "Start Game" in the Story "Mod your Life", I get sent to a page with "Sorry, I got distracted... Which page were you looking for?" Can somebody help?
Not really a bug. When you click Start Game you are brought to the last page of the story you saw in Game Mode. If that page no longer exists you get the "Sorry, I got distracted..." page. To fix the issue: - Click Start Game again - after you get the "Sorry, I got distracted..." page click on this link: https://chyoa.com/story/Mod-your-life.22909?game=reset Doing so should reset the game, allowing you to start over.
See moonblack's post. Additionally, I think this specific story doesn't use game mode mechanics, so it might not even be necessary to start the game.
I've deleted a story recently, but afterwards I still got a notification that someone had bookmarked a chapter from it. The first page is still available, apparently? See here: https://chyoa.com/chapter/Introduction.497498 No idea how this happened or how the story is still up.
Thank you for your report! If you access the story without logging in, you'll see that others no longer have access. Only you can still see the story. As for the bookmark, I assume the user accessed the story before it was deleted and still had it open in the browser. Happy writing!
The 'Ignore User' feature isn't working properly, because I keep getting notifications of chapter uploads from authors I've ignored.
Thank you for your report! The "Ignore this user" functionality has actually only prevented the person from writing you messages so far. But based on your report, I have expanded the functionality so that from now on no more notifications will come through. Happy reading!
I don't know if it just me, but today on forum show up at least hundred of new accounts, so I suspect that some of them are bots. Most of them show up today.
