Domino City Duel Academy

"In here!" The man shouts while Adam goes to lie in wait. "Stack and clear!" With the half-deafness from the gunshot wearing off, the Frenchman hears boots pounding on the hard floor. There's definitely more than just the one soldier out there right now.
Seth gives Adam a questioning look but awkwardly raises the pistol at the entrance flap with one hand.

 

"Can you take her communicator?" Felicia looks at Julia while she takes the unconscious guard's handcuffs, I think the best way was to bind the hands behind her back, right? She thinks to herself as she cuffs the guard's arms behind her back.

 

The metal restraints close around the guard's wrists with a series of clicks until they fit snugly. Felicia feels fairly confident the woman won't be getting out of them without help.

 

Julia takes the communicator device, careful to avoid pressing the button as she weighs what to do with it. It likely wouldn't do too much good as is, but she gave a look to Yoko.

"Is it a skill of yours to mimic voices?"

Yoko glances at the small, square transmitter in Julia's hand before giving the dark-haired professor an exasperated roll of her eyes. "I need to hear her voice first if I am to use it. Do you think we have the time for that?" The earpiece crackles to life, relaying from another set, but the words are unintelligible this far from anyone's ears.

 

She had to agree they didn't have time to wait for her to regain conciousness or really want to extend conversation with her. Julia didn't break the communicator yet, but kept it on the off chance it might come in useful later as she got ready to move on.

 

"For now, we can just use it to learn where they're coming from. And I guess you can just use any voice? I doubt they've memorized each and every one of the guards tones." Felicia said, making sure the unconscious guard was secure one last time. Before standing up. "So, where to now?"

 

"No." Yoko shakes her head. "I cannot imitate another's voice without taking it from them." Her expression is bitter, and she crosses her arms under her chest. "That aspect of my illusions was sealed from me long ago." The mage clears her throat. "But I can still use the one from that other woman, if we require it. Adam is still further in..." Yoko points into the hallway watched by the security office. "...but he is not far."

 

Sealed...

She wondered about that. But it was good to know. She had clear limits to her powers and what she could do. Eventually, she might be able to use that if she had to.

For now, she looked in the direction she pointed to.

"We best get to him and regroup now that we cleared a path for now."

 

"If he's close, then we should go." Felicia nods, "Who knows what they're doing to him. Then we can just teleport out of here with Dinah's magic." She said as she tries to get a feel on her gun. Hopefully I don't have to use this. She thinks to herself as she follows the group.

 

Shit shit shit... Don't suppose there's some magic you know that'd help in this situation? He mentally asks Quintet Magician, as he raises the rifle.

 

Dinah peels herself from the wall and follows the others out of the cramped office. "There remains the source of the sleeping spell on the other girl to account for. The one we left at the school." Yoko, leading the way, reminds the quartet as they march down the hall. "Unless you prefer for the spell to wear off naturally, or for myself and Julia to sever it. And keep in mind that I am leading us to the caster of that spell, not Adam himself."
They rescue party reaches the end of the corridor. A pair of sliding metal doors lie on each side of the terminus. One is plainly labeled "Barracks A" and the other is "Barracks B."

Felicia hears those reinforcements that were sent to the base's entrance. Using the amount of time it took to get here from there, she estimates that she has 5-10 minutes before they're in sight, unless they stop to search the motor pool. Felicia also hears a commotion going on in both barracks, although the one in Barracks B is noticeably quieter than the one coming from Barracks A.

Julia 59+20(Sorceress)= 79 success

Julia feels the remnants of a powerful spell lingering in the air. The bleak, dark emptiness evoked by the latent energy sends chills down her spine. It seems to be emanating from Barracks B.
Felicia also feels the spell's remains; however, instead of unnerving her, the mana feels almost attractive to her. Dark and dangerous, yes, but also beautiful, complex, and intriguing.
"Do you feel that?" Yoko quietly asks the others, her muted voice showing a crack in her facade of cool aloofness.

 

"It's something of notable power...and not particularly pleasant either." Julia affirmed it to Yoko.

"This isn't like the darkness of Archfiend or the yokai. This is....almost pure nothingness. A yawning void." Julia kept her voice down, but made a face of notable discomfort. There was only two times she felt something even close to this. One of them being when she released Beezle, but it didn't have quite the same energy. And the other...from what was discovered by the foundation.


"We need to approach carefully."

There is no response. Adam feels the connection, but he can't decipher whatever the Magician sends back.

For the briefest of moments, he sees the ancient priest again. The Egyptian holds up his hand and a nigh-invisible barrier made from what must be magic deflects an arrow.
A split-second later, Adam returns to himself. A small cylinder rolls past him and into the center of the bunk. A grenade.

 

"We have about 5 minutes before their backup arrives, unless they check the motor pool." Felicia informs the groups, just as they feel the magic. Her eyes go wide at how... pleasant it felt. Is this what magic is usually like? She thinks to herself just as Julia mentions how dangerous it was. Felicia shakes her head, nodding, "There's something happening in both barracks, but I think there's more commotion in Barracks A. Where do you think the spell originated from?" She asked, gripping her pistol tight, her thump ready to deactivate the safety...

 

"It seems to be in Barracks B." Julia half thought on it.

While there was risk to investigating...if there was something of note like this, logically it would be better to keep it out of their hands. Probably was something important.

"We might get a clue of exactly what the point of all this is. But that doesn't mean that we can afford to act carelessly here."

 

"Staying here won't get us anywhere. Specially with more soldiers following us. Let's just check both out? Dinah and I can check on Barracks A, while you two check on B. I doubt I'll be useful in identifying magic anyway." Felicia gives her suggestion.

 

“Got it.” Julia was somewhat wary about getting yet another possible spirit or monster to worry about dealing with, but it would be best to understand what they were looking for. She began to move for the barracks.

 

As Julia agrees, Felicia looks toward Dinah, "Let's go... prepare your spells too." She adds, undoing her pistol's safety. She moves toward the barrack's door, opening it a little to see what's happening inside.

 

Sliding the metal door open with Yoko in tow, Julia finds an open canvas tent housing small, uncomfortable looking beds. Most of them are made neatly, but a few are less pristine. A translucent, plastic curtain seems to be the intended way further into the warehouse-like room housing the tent. The only people there to greet her are a handful of soldiers lying unconscious, or worse, on the metal floor. They do not appear wounded at first glance.
