"Yes, mistress." Dinah hesitantly nods, gathering her strength as she follows her soul-bound master to the metal door. Felicia sees a canvas tent, flaps open, hosting a handful of soldiers hurriedly throwing on body armor, tac-vests, and other equipment pulled from footlockers on the metal floor. Aside from them, she can also spy a collection of small, extraordinarily basic beds within the tent. A translucent sheet of plastic seems to be only other "doorway." She hears shouting from further in the room, past this first tent, but the student can't tell what's being said. Spoiler: Barracks A (ignore the two standing guard) Spoiler: Stealth Roll 59 = 59 weak success The squad is too focused on suiting up for combat to notice Felicia, but she only has a second or two until the fastest soldiers are likely to see her.
It was odd. These people were already deal with. Both good and bad. The sounds of the steps got her attention, that someone was in here but she couldn't locate them. She'd have to approach carefully. Cautiously raising her hands up a bit, she kept scanning as she approached, slowly walking, partly to scan her surroundings, and buy a little more time to regain her breath. She should almost be ready to cast safely again if she had to, as long as it wasn't too strenuous. But she still wanted to avoid conflict unless necessary, so she attempted to try and talk to them calmly. "Hey, I'm not with them! I can help you."
"Can you freeze all of them in this room?" Felicia asked, doubting they can take on a full squad of trained soldiers. She opts to use magic, thinking they'll be caught unprepared. "That, or maybe set a trap so that when they touch the door, they'll all freeze?"
Oh, Allez vous faire foutre, canard! Adam cycles through insults as he sees the grenade. Not given time to think, he gestures for Seth to take cover before he grabs the grenade, his other hand trying to cast the same spell he saw in his vision, and rolling it back into the center of the enemy soldiers stacked up on the door.
Finding no one else within the tent, Julia peeks through the clear curtain while Yoko begins to search the unconscious bodies. A central walkway runs past a few more rows of green canvas tents. Outside one of the tents at the far end of the high ceilinged room's gangway, she sees a squad of soldiers, at least four or five people, stacked up as though ready to storm through that bunk's entrance. Spoiler: Stealth Roll 29 = 29 fail Sadly, one of the soldiers spots the professor. Rifle raised in Julia's direction, the young man elbows another rifleman. The two split off from their squad, approaching the mage with their guns trained toward her. Spoiler: Convince Roll 3+10(Charisma) = 13 fail "Lie down on the ground, lady!" The lead soldier--the one who saw her--barks as they come closer. "Don't make me shoot you!"
"Mistress, I cannot anchor the aura around an object, but if I stand beside the door I can freeze them as they approach." Dinah whispers, fear and malice seeping into her voice.
Seth ducks behind a footlocker at Adam's urging. Spoiler: Reaction Roll 67-10(Cooked) = 57 weak success The young Frenchman barely manages to knock the grenade under the plastic curtain before it detonates. Spoiler: Magic Roll 83-30(Untrained)+10(Vision)= 63 success Copying what he saw the priest do in the vision, Adam holds out his palm and wills for protection from the grenade. He feels a not-insignificant portion of his energy being sapped, but a feeling of weight on his arm and a slight distortion in the air in front of him shows Adam that the spell worked. The grenade, rather than throwing shrapnel everywhere, flashes a brilliant white and produces a painfully loud bang. Well, it does for those who aren't protected by Adam's shield. Rather than being rendered blind and deaf by the stun grenade, Adam sees and hears the equivalent of a firecracker.
Being caught with a group of armed soldiers, she cursed at her luck, but didn't have much options other than to follow along with what he says. She'd need to wait for a better moment than this to act.
"Then how big of an area can your spell effect?" She asked, Felicia then looks at their loadout, wondering if they had one of those stun grenades. If they do, "Can you teleport their grenades to us?" She asks.
"Merde, that worked! Ha! In your fucking face, Merneith! I can do magic without some shitty piece of jewelry." Adam yells out, forgetting that no one can hear him. While everyone is blind and deaf, he holds up the rifle and slams the butt into the skulls of the soldiers stacked up on the door to knock them out.
"Lie on your face with your hands behind your back!" The lead soldier demands as he reaches Julia. "Cover her." He brusquely orders the other gunman. The second man complies, pointing his firearm's muzzle at her head while the first one pulls a pair of metal handcuffs from his belt. Before she can feel the cold steel on her skin, Julia hears a deafeningly loud bang and a coruscation of brilliant white light in her peripheral vision from down the aisle where the rest of the squad was standing. Surprised, both soldiers turn to the source of the explosion, giving Julia a chance to act. The ringing deafness in her ears is disorienting, but she can still see, thanks to her eyes facing the floor during the flash. "Without...jewelry?" Seth's puzzled voice wonders aloud from the footlocker behind the Frenchman. It seems the spell may have protected more than he thought. Nevertheless, Adam methodically drops the trio of soldiers near the door with a forceful whack to the head. Looking to the right, he sees another pair of shocked soldiers wheeling about to face him. There's someone lying prone behind them, but Adam can't easily make them out.
"Enough to occupy the doorway, mistress." Dinah hisses, clearly growing more annoyed by the moment. At Felicia's second question, she clasps her hands as though in prayer, furrowing her brow. A heartbeat later, a grenade appears in each of the slave's hands. She proffers them to her master, though she doesn't look the least bit contrite.
"Her Millenium thingie!" Adam says to Seth. As the soldiers turn, Adam simply raises the rifle and points it at them. "Don't do anything stupid, amis."
"Right..." Felicia gives the grenades a quick look, wondering if they're the lethal types, or more for crowd control. If they were the latter, she pulls the pin on one of them, and throws it inside the barracks before shutting the door.
Did she really have anything her as an option to deal with them? The sudden lapse had given her time and there wasn't much time to think or deliberate, she just needed to make an escape. Putting her hand to the floor, she tried to channel a sheet of extra thick ice to force them to stumble while still thrown off and give her the lapse she would need to make a run for it.
Spoiler: Intimidation Roll 77+20(Dominating)-30(Deafened)= 67 success Although the blast likely ruined the hearing of the last two soldiers, Adam's rifle, and his coolly intimidating posture as he trains the barrel at them, gives the combatants pause after they spin to face him. They leave their own firearms pointed at the floor for a couple seconds, giving him a little more time to act. Spoiler: Casting Roll 17+20(Sorceress)+10(Ice Magic)= 47 weak fail To her disappointment, Julia's deafness leads to her unknowingly mispronouncing part of the spell's incantation, leaving only a small circle of ice where her palm touches the floor. Luckily for her, the soldiers are too preoccupied with a gunman who just stepped out into the aisle to notice. Following the pair's line of sight, she realizes that the newcomer looks remarkably like the student she's here to save--Adam.
Both of them read "M84 Stun Grenade" on the side of the cylinder. Felicia hears a gruff soldier ask aloud "Which of you fuckups dropped your flashbang?" before it goes off, rattling the door behind her back. The loud pop sounds like a particularly explosive firecracker. It hurts her hearing a little, but she's fine after a mere moment.
"J-Julia?" Adam stammers in surprise as he sees his mentor/crush. Suddenly filled with a macho desire to look cool in front of her, he uses the guard's distraction to slam his rifle butt into their heads.
“Adam?” She took a second to register his presence which was good she had found him but this wasn’t the ideal time to get into it. “That saves time. We can get into the full story when we’re alive to tell about it. For now, let’s focus on trying not to die.”
"Okay, now get your spell ready, in case some of them are still ready to fight." Felicia said to the nun, waiting for her to get her time-stop spell ready, before moving away from the door. She holds onto the second grenade tightly. Swallowing her saliva as she hopes she wouldn't have to deal with well trained soldiers.
