So I've noticed that the art I chose for my story "Steel Dragon" doesn't really fit it that much. The protagonist does the majority of his sex stuff in a humanoid form, so I thought that I should go and find some art that would fit his look better. Problem is that I'm struggling to find anything good. How do yall go about looking for your story cover pics? Anything you'd suggest? Also, I do want to say for suggestions that I won't use AI art due to my personal stance on it.
Well, if you're against AI art - which is fair Presumably, you're also against using copyrighted content - which is reasonable. Then that pretty much leaves you with Commissioning art for the cover or drawing it yourself.
Well there is creative commons license. Search for pictures with creative commons license. But you probably need to lower your standard. The likelihood that you will find exactly what you're looking for that is also creative commons is not good odds.
Cover image is all about leaving an impression, so yes I actually believe a Dragon is better then some random dude. A cover image also doesn't need to perfectly encapsulate what your story is about. It's purpose is to draw attention, so put something sexy there.

Tbh, you're right. I did find some good art on danbooru that give me the vibe I want, but I turned my nose up on them on account of them not looking too much like my protag. I may be willing to turn my nose up at AI, but I'm fine with editing existing art and using that, so long as I don't profit from it.
I'm moreso worried about getting people all nice and excited for some dragonfucking only for them to be severely dissapointed to find out the one doing the fucking is a prettyboy with draconic scales on his body. Granted the protag does turn into a dragon at points, but still.
I love sourcing pics for my stories, especially models to represent my characters. I learned that it's easier to find the model photo I like first, then write the character's physical description to fit the pic. But that doesn't necessarily work with the cover pic, I mean it's tough to base a whole story on one pic! So I end up trawling the web for hour after hour trying to find a good cover pic. It's a labour of love!
