Newest Chapter: I mean it's a short chapter. Just transitioning to actually fighting now. So time to draw up battle plans.
I see, well I'm sure this won't be fine at all. Based on what we know they are likely to use magic, the suits should be resilient to that for the most part. But unless they are just way too submissive all the time I can't see them being more threatening than the wasps (at least if they aren't hitting some kind of weeknesses). Have we ever used identify on one? If not we might as well, it could tell us something useful. Otherwise let's try for incapacitation rather than kill. It'll probably come down to them being more afraid of us than the scorpions. Let's use blizzard on them and puppet to make one of them run away in terror (or something resembling it). If they get close, pin them down, if they use magic respond with a similar magic. And move forwards, we are trying to appear invincible. Hopefully they give up, if not Lri can knock them out while invisible. Speaking of invisible, we could try cloak to get everyone past, but that would require a mana potion after half the group. A fun if likely impractical option is to cloak the zombies then have them grab the spiders while invisible. If they do turn out threatening, fight properly, we do not want to lose someone because we were trying to look impressive. I'll let someone else work out what to do after subduing them.
Six Tarantulas? This will be like one of those modern army gets transported into medieval world Isekai. Yulia We definitely should start with Identify. Then Undermine five of them. After that hit them with Blizzard, Icicle, Force Lance, Fireball and Lightning Strike. Try to spread your attacks out a bit. Ideally we don't want to kill them. I also like you to keep an eye on your friends health. These tarantulas are almost certainly poisonous, so heal and cure when needed. We have basically fuck you level of mana potions so there is no reason to hold back, drink them as needed. Cherchiel Keep back for now and focus to defend our casters. If the situation requires it turn into Boarchiel Goma Sound the horn Let's use puppet on the one spider that we Yulia didn't Undermine. But since they already saw what it can do, I suggest instead of making one run away we send the puppet one against its friends and try to grapple one of them. That should take two of the Tarantulas out of the fight. Isalia Hang back and form a line of defense with Cherchiel and poke them with your trident if any spider is dumb enough to come close. If you are bored you may use Life Drain to weaken them. Lri Create an Illusion and have it lead the charge of our zombies. After that I like you to turn yourself invisible and attack from behind. Try to not kill them if possible. Lemiel Show them the might of your undead horde! Send them at the enemy. This will hopefully be enough of a show of force to make them run away. Otherwise have them attack. Maple Your our specialist for the battle. Keep a close eye over the battlefield and if any of the spiders give us trouble pick them of with your railbow gun Sally Since you are our leader, continue to demand that the spiders surrender. Otherwise hang back and reflect any spells the spiders may cast on our team with your shield Talwa Lets show what that magic armor can do and cast it on everyone in our group, yes including the zombies, because why not?. If we are actually for some god forsaken reason are hard pressed use Great Fireball and Searing Light as a final option. You may drink mana potions as needed. If the spiders surrender, cease your attacks. We want them to recognize us as their new overlord, so wanton slaughter is not ideal. Fortunately we have some pretty powerful healing spells. So as long as we don't kill them things should be fine.
I have no issues with Gambio's tactics. If I were to suggest one thing, it's to keep them from retreating to that pyramid behind them, they might have something there they can use against us. And given they can control the wasps, make sure to keep an eye for reinforcements in case they try to compel some wasps to attack us from behind.
Uhh, absolutely do not have the zombies attack. I'm not sure we want a repeat of that even if we were trying to kill. Stick to just grappling.
The plan looks good. If Cherciel is hanging back, she should keep I on possible reinforcements unless she is needed in the fight against Tarantulas.
Newest Chapter: Man with so many physically invulnerable enemies... It was fun to throw you this curveball...
Well, that was unexpected. This is why I don't like not knowing. Anyway, good job adapting to the situation even without us. The main advantage of in is that if there is a leader we are more likely to find them there, plus turning off the wasp control spell will help if wasps get sent against us. Going up has the advantage of destroying that spell giving us an overland route and we can just leave. Considering long therapy sessions isn't likely on the cards, I vote up so we can leave. I would like to collect a spider companion, but any attempt to change the hive seems to be doomed or put the wasps in charge (identify seems to be advising against that).
Going in and breaking the control spell will probably start some chaos inside the hive. So I'd prefer to break first the barrier by going to the top. That way we have better change of being in position to take advantage of said chaos. Angelic magic seems to be likely on the final level which would somewhat limit usefulness of a spider companion, but I am not against it, if we can convince Ella that she should follow us now that she has a name,
Hold on, I'm interested in this therapy idea. These are some of the most skilled casters in the entire Tower, and they're held back purely by manipulation and self-esteem issues. Not to mention, they control the wasp spell. Rather than breaking the spell and wreaking chaos, we may be able to rework it to our advantage. Breaking the spell outright would just lead to a bloodbath, but we can find a more peaceful solution to this problem. Depending on how this unfolds, we could pave a path to taking on the Hungry Sands, and/or power up before the final floor. Also, given their skill as casters, I'm surprised they couldn't take down the Collector. Obviously their poison wouldn't work on an undead, but they had lightning and force lance as well.
Just going to answer that one here. They couldn't fight the collector because of the same weakness that keeps them from realizing they could easily overpower the Scorpions. They never tried. The Collector easily overpowers the Scorpions and the Wasps... Clearly therefore the Tarantulas would never stand a chance and therefore they should run or surrender if they find themselves facing it.
The spiders gave us more trouble then I thought, still we gained some good information here. I agree, ideally we would keep the spell up, although doing so might not be feasible. At the very least we would have to split our forces and ensure the Tarantulas don't backstab us. Anyways, first we need to get there. Climbing sounds like an absolute disaster waiting to happen, so I suggest we take the stairs.
Considering the reason they can manipulate magic is because they are curious and thus understand it, teaching them about angelic magic might be possible. We have a readily available source of examples after all. I would be more interested in stopping open if such a thing is possible, we have been heavily hinted about that after all. If Emmie is up for trying therapy then I'm all for it, not that I'll be any help whatsoever.
Demeaning yourself because of regret is never a good idea. (Not to mention the scorpions are almost certainly quite intentionally taking advantage of it.) I think I'll let someone else do the therapy, I'm not great at that kind of thing. I guess we should do this without violence again. We know their tricks now so it shouldn't be too hard, and unlike the wasps they aren't obliged to fight to the death. Let's send the zombies to drag the spell maintainers away. Use blizzard and have one armed guard fight the other. Alternatively, just use puppet on one of the maintainers and have them break the spell without use "doing" anything, now we don't have to fight.
Apparently Tarantula are not going to attack us immediately. So we can try some more therapy here. First we could try asking why Scorpion want the spell in the first place and if that is actually in Tarantula's best interests. Then, if we have some that are willing to talk, with us Yulia can explain what Boodalian said:
There's two key points to unravel with this complex the tarantulas have: 1. The inferiority complex the scorpions have cultivated in them; 2. The guilt they feel about enslaving the wasps and other things they've potentially done for the scorpions. Yulia seems to be on track to help them deal with the former, but the latter is more complicated. It's interesting that Yulia is grappling with her own guilt right now, maybe she can use that to form a connection with these tarantulas. The other thing to consider: We still have a captured wasp that we're dragging around with Goma's tentacle dagger. Maybe Ella can modify the spell so that the wasp can speak her real thoughts and we can negotiate a plan where we free the wasps without them immediately trying to enslave the tarantulas. That, and finding something the tarantulas can do (besides the slavery thing) to repay the wasps for their role in the wasps' slavery. Because ultimately they're both victims of the scorpions. If the tarantulas regret what they've done to the wasps, they have the opportunity to free them and make amends, and our party can serve as mediators.
I don't think the Tarantulas realize what they have here. They can completely control the Wasps with this spell. You spidergirls are clearly inferior to the Wasps and Tarantulas, but right now you are above the Wasps right? This won't do. The Hierarchy of this Hive should obviously have you at the very bottom with both the Scorpions and Wasps lording over you. But with the current set up you don't get that. The scorpions currently prevent you from being in your proper place. It is a slave's job to take care of all their masters needs and that also includes correcting them when what they are doing is against their own best interest. You need to make them realize that. Make use of this spell and send the Wasps out to subjugate the scorpions. Then you install both the Wasps and scorpions as co ruler over this hive with you as their lowly slaves. Of course the spell will need to keep up to ensure the Wasps will realize their proper role as your masters. Only this way you can ensure that they are especially haughty and demeaning to you. It is your duty as a slave to put your masters in their proper place.
Well, I guess that answers the question of the easiest way to leave. I think I prefer the therapy route (that Leh is desperately trying to steer us away from). I don't think it would be an effective threat so alas we would have to use it. I can think of one fun option, lead an exodus of spiders and leave just the scorpions to be the prey of the wasps, the wasps might even agree to it. I think the wasp is correct about their nature and the scorpions' nature. They should really be able to overcome that nature, but never mind. I think the issue the old balance in the hive had is that the wasps were threatening enough that it became a matter of survival. In the transition to the new balance, the morality of the spiders was taken advantage of by the scorpions (who mostly have ambition and no morals) to give themselves power. I will let everyone else carry on, I'm sure we can get somewhere with this therapy. It might take more time than we have so I think we have to find an alternative that will let them come to terms with their actions at their own pace.
