Verdas, a day after signing with the guild

Eran Nightwind looks out at the breathtaking vista of Verdasienalle, with its impressive temple to Yselva. He hadn't thought he would be here any time soon, but the pretty if stern bureaucrat at the guild hall had informed him that his first adventure would be chosen for him - his 'trial run' - and here he was sent, through a brightly glowing portal. Idly, he wonders if the guild sent him here because of his history, or if his presence here is random chance.

"Excuse me." He turns as he hears a voice behind him.
"Would you be the one the guild sent?" A woman asks.

The County of Raginszcki, Rebel Territory

Claudia pauses, Varscona sheathed at her side, as she comes upon a mill. She's surprised to see the wheel turning, the rudimentary machines still operating. She's heard tell of the region, the rebellious Count Raginszcki's rebellion turning things amock and bringing chaos to the common people as the royal and county forces fight among themselves. Her target, given to her by the guild, is a former soldier of the count, turned bandit. Macek Athelas, as he was described to her back in the guild hall, is a notorious bruiser and fighter, and didn't hesitate to prey upon the people here as soon as law and order faded into nothingness.

Her thoughts are distracted as she hears a ruckus from the mill.

"I said no! Get out of here, you king-sucking bastard!" A woman shouts.

"I ain't givin' no more warnings!" A man shouts back.

Heading to the front, Claudia sees a man at arms - probably a career soldier, but not quite a knight, in front of the mill's doors.

Standing before him is a glaring peasant woman.

Claudia looked with attention at Macek, mostly at his equipment. Simple helmet, gambeso and shield on his back it makes of him difficult oponent, but not imposible to defeat. His glavie gives him adventage of reach, so it will be better for her, to not let him use it. Claudia pull out her family sword and make quick pray to Gods to help her in coming fight. She takes deep breath and go sneaking behind Macek, to attack him from behind. Claudia put finger on her mouth, giving signal to peasant woman with pitchfork, to not alarm bandit.

Damn, she's hot! Those boobs, those thighs, and almost certainly no panties... Yummy! Were Eran's first thoughts as he examined the dark-skinned elf. “Hello, miss! My name is Eran and yes, the Guild sent me. May I know who am I speaking to?” He asked the unknown elf. I hope her ass is as great as the rest of her...

The Market town of Arnbojk, One Day before Joining

The marketplace is abuzz with the sound and energy of people, moving around cargo, haggling over prices or shouting out their wares. Celeste walks ahead of Meira, eagerly basking in the kaleidoscope as she makes some last minute purchases for her first day at the Adventurer's Guild tomorrow.
"Ooh, what about this?" She says, picking up a glass tube filled with clear liquid at an apothecary stand. "Stay Awake - guaranteed 72 hours of wakefulness without side effects." She reads the label. "Ooh, what about this?" She picks up a steel dagger from a nearby blacksmith's stall. The blacksmith, a cave orc with the strange deformities that mark them as different from their cousins that live in the open air, stares at Meira, and the elf's hand instinctively goes to her violet hair. Another look at the orc, however, shows that he couldn't care less about her hair, and is more interested in her chest and hips. Meira reminds herself that no one cares about her hair here, but the awkward feeling remains.
"Heheh, that's a damn fine - and expensive - weapon. But maybe we can make a deal, darlin'..." The orc looks hungrily at Celeste and Meira. Casting her gaze at the blade, though, Meira can see there's clearly nothing special about it.

The Sewers under Umbralis, one week before joining

Zilavra ignores the smells of the 'water' beneath her, as she walks along the stone walkways. She's a Talon of the Empire - such discomforts are so common to her life as to be invisible. She walks through the old stone halls, chiseled away in a primitive fashion many centuries before. She follows the directions her contact gave her, taking a turn into darkness, and moving past a grate whose bars look solid but give way at a firm touch. Darkness envelops her as she crouch walks through a small tunnel, but her persistence is rewarded by a faint blue light as she exits into a room with more elegantly carved stone archways. Light filters through unseen cracks above.
"You are early. Good." She nearly jumps as she sees her handler seemingly materialise from nothing. "We have work for you, before you go to the guild."

The Guild Hall, Six Months after joining

Eliza stifles a yawn as she sits at her desk. Around her, heavily armored adventurers drink and laugh over tales of battle and survival against the odds, the perils they've faced in their guild contracts. Eliza's own experience with the guild has been...less eventful. The higher ups, it seems, have found her skill with restoration to be more useful than her abilities in the field, and so she's languished here, healing the wounds of others who've been able to go on more eventful quests.

"Moping again?" She hears a familiar voice and looks up to see a familiar half-elf smiling at her.
Maelon, a young sorcerer's apprentice turned wannabe adventurer after his master's untimely death, has been her constant companion these past few months. Like her, he's longed to prove himself in the field, but his lack of aggressiveness and skill with restoration has led to him being sidelined. He's also as crazy about her as he is too nervous to ever act on it - something so obvious that even the unconfident Eliza has picked up on it. "Well, I think I may have gotten us out of our slump. A two man job just opened up, and I snagged it. I just need a partner." He smiles.

Zilavra had to steel herself from jumping when her handler appeared. She knew that if she had reacted, she would have been given another beating. She had hoped that these tasks and tests would be done. She felt she was ready for the outside world and to challenge herself to improve her skills in service to her order. But she knew that they would continue to test her until they were satisfied.

The dark elf's only sign of frustration was a measured exhale, and her voice was even as she responded, "Of course. I live to serve The Talons."

She leaned forward slightly, a subtle bow in deference to her handler.

“That could keep you alert, but it looks discoloured and expired. Why not just buy some alchemical ingredients for me to make something fresh? It would also help because I could tailor them to whatever situation needed.” Meira did her best to nudge the noble girl away from anything that didn’t sound too reliable. She almost thought a market like this might be more dangerous for her lady than anything else. She could even sense the strange amount of eyes in their direction, and not all just because she looked like an easy target.

Instinctively, she had to move in front of Celeste as the orc had begun talking. She would never allow trash like this to even dream about taking her lady’s virginity. After all….

“‘How do I say this….you’re kind of too spoiled for me. My friends are talented with bows and healing magic. They’re the kind of people I can go on adventures with. Can you do any of that?”

“I’m sorry. You’re pretty and everything, but I only want to marry a girl who’s also an adventurer too.”

“Hm? I guess….if I had to say, I like the kind of girl who would always help out those in need.”

The point of this journey was for Celeste to to become a hero to impress that boy. She didn’t see why. Maybe it was just the kind of young love where after being shot down for the forty seventh time, the noble girl just wanted to prove she could.

That boy also didn’t know Celeste as well as he thought. She might be silly and rather spoiled, but Celeste really was committed to helping others. Meira wouldn’t deny that her lady was high maintenance ever since the first days she met, but over time, that spoiled honest personality of hers had ended up growing on her. If what her lady wished for was a fairy tale like romance to that boy, she wouldn’t allow anyone as vulgar as this to even think about coming between it.

Still, it would be easier to just advise against her lady than publicly blast all the obvious ploys. The obvious leers she was getting for her body seemed almost minor in comparison. She knew that a lot of non elves tended to find her attractive. She knew that. She had heard a lot of…ideas from visiting nobleman not as quiet as they thought about what things they’d do with her and her sister under their house. And even among elf’s really she was something of a looker, even if they still expected her to be some kind of dark sorcerer. Which…..wasn’t entirely wrong, but…

Regardless, she wasn’t about to allow more than looking. She wasn’t pure, but that didn’t mean she’d open her legs for just anybody. Especially not for useless junk like this.

With a well practiced polite smile, she made the nudge for Celeste to put it back.

“It might be good for emergencies, but even just iron would do in that situation.” She didn’t expand on what, but the situation did come to mind. If it ever came to that, it would be good she had something, but then even just regular metal would work, if the target wouldn’t be wearing armor. But she wouldn’t allow such a situation to ever happen that close if she could help it either.

“Besides….you’d have to keep this one at the waist, and if you were ever grabbed in a situation like that, you’d want something that can be concealed and they couldn’t tell you’re reaching for it right away until it’s drawn and in them by surprise. It would have to be thinner than this and sleeker. Quality matters, but just about any sharp object can get in someone’s neck and chest easily enough. And ideally, you’d want it enchanted for good measure. Any other time, you have magic and monsters or bandits would never be getting that close between the two of us.”

Eliza immediately sprung to her feet and wrapped her arms around Maelon's torso, giddy with excitement. "Really!? Oh Melinatra bless you Maelon, thank you! It's been so dull here."

She broke away from him with a grin from ear-to-ear. While she (surprisingly) quite enjoyed playing nurse maid to a bunch of adventurers, she'd never stayed in one place doing the same thing over and over again for so long. True her time spent serving the Goddess had often been repetitive, she'd still had experiences. She'd travelled to different sites and met different tribes, learned many different names, stories and ways to worship the goddess. But here at the Adventurer's Guild she thought things would be more... adventurous.

The most excitement she normally got was when the guild masters posted new jobs that they wouldn't let her take or when injured adventurers returned needing care. In the case of the latter, if the adventurer was particularly uncouth they were prone to taking liberties with her such as a stray hand on her rump, or a brazen squeeze of her breast. She'd been aghast the first couple of times that it'd happened, but now just ignored it.

Maelon had thankfully been a more than welcome companion. In truth she'd been enamoured herself with his boyish grin, good looks, and kind soul. She just wished he'd be more assertive and actually ask to court her. It wasn't like she'd say 'no'. But maybe his initiative to go after this new job would lead him to go after other things as well.

"So what's the job?" she asked excitedly and wrapped her arms around one of his. "Where are we going? What are we doing? Tell me everything!"

Fei ignores the odd looks from the farmers around her as her goblin companion trails along behind her on the causeway, chittering to itself. She's tried many times to make the creature walk level or ahead of her, but it always seems to drift behind her - and as it does, she always feels its eyes on her ass. Around her, Fei feels the brisk air and the smells of honey and fruit, as the incredibly fertile farmland stretches out across the horizon and to the sea. She's been sent on her first contract, and seemingly not a complex one. A local farmer has been complaining about some sort of creature that's been terrorising his crops each night. Given her skills, Fei was chosen in the hopes she might be able to identify and tame the beast.

She steps off the causeway as she sees a large farmhouse with the distinctive yellow tiled roof she was told to look out for - her client's house. Behind the farmhouse, she sees some grain, and a few bee hives. One of the hives has been destroyed, while thick, uneven paths have been haphazardly trod through the grain. Approaching the door and knocking, she soon comes face to face with the farmer, a squat human in his 50s with a thick beard and a paunchy frame, thick gut not hidden beneath his linen shirt. "Ah, you'll be the one from the guild, then?" He looks her up and down with a smile.

The tavern is thick with smoke and loud with the sounds of a bard's music and the raucous laughter of nearly a hundred drunks. Clad in a thick cloak, Lyria doesn't attract much attention - as she's planned. She was surprised to hear, after a few uneventful days at the guild, that someone had specifically requested her help for a job. The stern faced gnome woman at reception had also remarked that it was odd. Ever since, Lyria's ears have pricked up with curiosity.

"Well, if it isn't the circus girl. She's developed a little since we've last seen her, eh, sis?" Lyria hears a voice from her right.

"I wonder if she'll still be able to crawl around through vents with those things on her chest." A voice answers from the left.

Turning, Lyria sees the two speakers walk in front of her, taking seats at her table. "How you been, Tewinter?" They grin.

Lyria knows the pair pretty well - Lauriel and Mirtha, elven sisters and sneak thieves, veterans of a dozen jobs, some of them with Lyria. It was a tip from these two that got led her to her cursed jewelry.

Calm down, calm down. This is just like any other job. Fei says to herself, knowing that her foreign look will gather some looks. And that wasn't adding in her curvy body, and slightly revealing clothes. Her qipao's slits making sure her every step gave anyone looking at her a chance to see her milky white thighs covered by her silky stockings. "Urgh." More than that however, she groans, "Come on, Peng. Stop lagging behind." She looks behind her, glaring at her first monster, a goblin she's named Peng. Fei made him carry their supply bag, and giving him a simple wooden club... more of a sturdy stick she found in the forest really, as his defense. "Ghh. Damn it, did I really have to get stuck with this creature as my first companion?" She grumbles, I should have brought more talismans, damn it. She thinks to herself as they continue on their way, the sweet scent in the air, combined with the cool breeze helping her relax somewhat.

Once they take a turn towards the designated house of her first client, Fei readies herself to hear out the quest's details. Though as she spots the wreckage left by the beast, It went for the hive, and left quite the trail through the crops. She tilts her head, placing her gloved hand onto the book holstered on her hip. "A bear... or a boar?" Fei didn't need to look at her special tome to give a guess, but she knew relying on a guess would lead to trouble. For now, she's determined to learn more about what happened her. And as she's greeted by an old, fat man. "Ah, good day, sir. Yes, the guild sent me here due to my expertise." Fei smiles, "Don't mind the goblin, he's a tamed companion." She points to the leather collar around Peng's neck. "Though I can already see what the problem is, I'd still like to ask if you've noticed anything strange? Any sound, or smell that's out of place." The young tamer decides to start her investigation by questioning the farmer.

How strange it feels for Zendak to be back in an ancient cavern, surrounded by bones and dust. Just like the old days, it's hard not to think. "So, you've arrived, necromancer..." A sickly sounding voice comes from the darkness. "I have work for you." The unseen one speaks, confirming that Zendak wasn't sent the wrong directions by the guild. "I was...defeated...humiliated...by a foolish amateur adventurer who got lucky. Even now, she celebrates her victory, thinking me dead." A magical image appears, illuminating the room to display a woman.

Elaine feels the briskness of the air on her cheeks as she treads upon the dead grass of the old graveyard, the moon illuminating her way. The job she'd been sent on had seemed simple - head to a remote village to discover and destroy whatever was responsible for a series of murders there. Quickly, she'd seen a familiar trail, which had led her into the woods. A local guide, before he was scared off by the falling sun, explained that a battle had gone on here long ago between the early church and a cult of demon worshippers. The cult had been eradicated, but their aura, the sense of unease and dread one feels when walking around here, had never gone away. The trail - a pair of footprints, disappears about halfway through the graveyard, the mud evening out. It seems she'll have to look around.

Lyria looked up from her ale, which she had barely touched since ordering it, seeing her old... friends from the start of her thieving career. She drew her lips into a sly smile, ‘Ah, my favourite thieving twins... we do have a knack for running into each other, don't we?’

Eyeing them up and down for a moment, she chuckled, ‘And you two are just the same as I remember you.’ She rolled her eyes at their teasing, ‘I can squeeze through tight spots just fine with these.’ She gestured to her chest.

She was reminded that her current predicament was due to them, but could she blame them for it? They couldn't have known that those jewels were cursed, just a tiny part of a greater heist.

She let out a sigh, ‘Oh, how have I been? Good, good... but I've had better days. How about you two? Everything going smoothly?’

‘It wouldn't happen to be the two of you who requested me for a job?’ She asked, raising her eyebrow curiously.

Zendak hummed as he looked at the image... of a very appealing adventurer. He took out a pipe and lighted it to buy himself a time to think. She had a nice pair of titties... he was sure she would be a milker. A pity... maybe she had busty friends for his farm...

"The payment?" he asked his... employer. He wasn't working for free, after all.

Uldengrove, The Maiden's Knock Tavern, one week after joining

Delphi is struck by the music playing in the tavern, so much like the skaldic traditions in many ways, but so different in others. The sounds are...harder, more rigid, more confined to the rules of musical theory. The elf at the front is different, however. As she strums her lute in tandem with the dulcet tones of her voice, Delphi picks up a certain amount of experimentality, strange seventh notes and sustaineds that don't quite correspond with the classical theory taught in these Southern, more temperate lands. The woman, though, has clearly had time to practice. Despite her youthful appearance, Delphi knows that the elf - Lydia Melqart, head instructor in musical theory at the University of Uldengrove, is nearly four hundred years old. Oh, and she also knows that someone is here to murder her.

Irritatingly, the guild didn't give her much more than that - her job is to prevent an assassination of the elf, either as a test of her perception or just because they don't know any more themselves. The elf plucks a few more notes and bows in front of the applauding crowd, before beginning to go backstage.

  20. youdontknowme87

    youdontknowme87 Really Experienced

As she listens to the music Delphi wonders who would have ANY reason to kill a music teacher. But she suppose that after being alive for +400 years anyone would have a few skeletons in their closet. She probably hasn't always a music teacher either. Wonder what she was before...

Oh, the music has stopped. And Lydia is leaving the relative safety of the common room and is heading backstage. Where there are far less eyes, and thus witnesses. Well, guess there is nothing else to do but follow. Maybe she could get some personal lessons from the elf? Delphi is more of a singer than anything else (an instrument would just be 1 more thing to carry), but that doesn't mean she wouldn't be interested in a private lesson from the elf.

As Delphi starts to follow Lydia Melqart she starts to think of how she should introduce herself. She probably shouldn't just walk up and say, Hay, somebody is maybe trying to kill you. I don't know, the guild didn't give me a lot of details.
She would sound like some kind of crazy person!
