    How was your 2024?

Did you get all the writing done you hoped you would?

Have you made any resolutions about writing in 2025?

I have to say, it was a mixed bag of a year for me; in part because I've been depressed for several months, and I feel it's affected the quality and speed of my writing. I did manage to wrap up Lois Lane's Night Out to my satisfaction, and DOOMED is going well enough, though I worry about repeating some of the same old mistakes. Who knows what lies ahead for 2025? Maybe I'll try something different, just as a short, focused project, in between the DOOMED chapters.

But, enough moping. Here's a toast to everyone that survived another year, and here's a drop of libation for everyone that did not, and may your 2025 be a year of writing, even if you start just one story, or add just one chapter to an existing story.

Personally, my 2024 absolutely sucked. However, I used my writing as a way to somewhat deal with it and escapism.

I was able to get my Christmas themed episode done on Christmas as targeted with over 100 chapters and 150k words.

I've planned 22 more episodes for my series and I'd hope to get through 4 this year and actually get at least two to publishable quality in 2025. My series is rather niche, but I tend to get really good replies when people actually decide to sit down and read it, but its a little overwhelming when people just look at it; especially when they're just looking for a quick erotic fix. So, I'm hoping to get some more interest into it.

I wish you the very best you can get to in 2025 and many more fun & enjoyable story lines. May your blocks be brief, and your muses be generous!

I religiously track my writing time (and other things) (because I think it's fun) (yeah time management is fun to me) (don't judge me!!). Input was about the same as it was in previous years: 360 hours. On the output side I did less well. 166 of those hours I spent on worldbuilding, lore development, and (mostly) map creation, but no story came out of that on the other end. It just kind of... fizzled out. I did enjoy myself, at least. Mostly.

In the 194 remaining hours I produced 124259 words, which sounds pretty impressive! But I started writing no fewer than 7 (other?) stories, but I only finished 1 of those, and that one is unfortunately not suitable for publication on CHYOA, and I never got around to finding a better place for it. 3 others got quite far along before I got tired of them and quit, and the final 3 never got out of the initial stages. Sometimes an idea seems good and it's only during execution that you find out it doesn't work.

    So... lacklustre, honestly.

My main issue is that I tend to get tired of (my) stories pretty quickly, but I'm also pathologically incapable of brevity. I can't just write a bit of slash, 1000 words, 2 sex scenes, done and done. No, I need depth and background and plot and development and plausible character motivations and and and...

I don't do New Year's resolutions... but it'd be nice if I could finish and publish something this year.

The ever elusive novel I've been promising myself that I'd write did not materialise in 2024, perhaps it will in 2025. One reason I started writing on CHYOA was to get some experience and hone my skills, and from that point of view it has worked well. What I didn't expect was to get hooked on the writing format here, I can't tear myself away to write other stuff!

    Happy new year!
My 2024 was a mixed bag. There were a lot of ups and down, mostly because of addiction problems and some major changes in my life.
All of that made my writing fall into the background a bit, but I feel like I got my groove back these last few months. I’m really hoping I can finish my current biggest project this year. My story ‘Coming Out of Your Shell’ started all the way back in the summer of 2023 and I’ve gone on multiple hiatuses since then.
But I feel like I’m in a really good place at the moment and I think I’m going to go back to regular uploads soon. My resolution is to finish writing the story this year and to not fall into one of my holes again.

I hope all of you get everything done that you want to accomplish this year. It’s a pleasure and an honour to be amongst such talented people on this site and I really can’t wait what for what this year has in store for us.

I absolutely agree! There’s just such an immediacy to writing on CHYOA that makes it soooo addicting!

My goal for the last couple of years has been to get to 1000 chapters published and I've got dangerously close to it now with 996. The problem being I now want my 1000th chapter to be something big and impressive and I don't know what I can do in just 4 chapters to get that!

    I don't think that's how it works. :p

I assume this is a story about a transgender turtle on a journey of self-discovery, and there's nothing you can do to convince me otherwise.

996!! Soooo close! I'm not even close to 500 yet. And I agree, 1000 does need to be special.

Yes but your 500 are three times the quality of the schlock I write!

If anyone else had spoken of your work in such a fashion I'd have left them in no doubt as to where they could stick their comment. But as it's you I'll settle for a few stern words, now listen 'ere missy, don't you be tellin' me your work is schlock when I knows perfectly well it's very good indeed.

I only began writing late last year after being a long time reader. I began my story and aimed for a chapter a day, averaging around 1000 words or so.

I immediately had to do a few hiatuses and was sick most the time. So, I ended up *not* writing that much!

I guess my resolution is to not get burnt out and keep my story going all year. I went down to 4 chapters a week so I can keep up the quality (though, arguably, the quality is iffy regardless [it’s my first story, so what can be expected?]). I’m happy with what I’ve written so far this year, and I’m excited to see where the story goes!

I’d also like to be a little more involved in the community, which is why I’m on the forum lol

2024 was a rollercoaster, some wins and some slumps. Didn’t hit all my writing goals, but hey, progress is progress. For 2025, I’m aiming to write more consistently, even if it’s just a little each day. Here’s to surviving the year and hoping 2025 brings fresh ideas and fewer writer’s block moments. Cheers to all of us keeping the words flowing!

2024 ended with me spending the last few months sick and tired. Physically and mentally. This year has been the same so far. Maybe I'll manage to write here again once I get better.

Sounds like it was a bit of a mixed year, but the important thing is that you kept writing! Finishing a story and making progress on another is still a solid achievement, even if it didn’t go as quickly as you wanted. Here’s to new ideas, less self-doubt, and a 2025 filled with writing that excites you.
