Hi all, I am a man of a certain age and like a good statistic, I was wondering if anyone had the answers to the following. 1. What is the normal amount of views the site gets a day? 2. What types of stories get the most views 3. What percentage of men or women who read and contribute (sorry for anyone in-between just trying to keep it simple) Also I'd like to add that this is an awesome site, I have only cum across it recently and really enjoy the atmosphere
I think obsessing over views is probably a bad idea. In this day and age, getting caught up in the endless popularity poll that is likes and favorites and views only drains you emotionally, mentally, and physically. But, I will give an overview on the people who use this site, just in case it helps. A lot of people (we'll call them the Quickies) will randomly search for a story, and if yours seems at least somewhat appealing, skim through the chapter list to find something they can wank to based on the title and then leave. That means you gotta leave a real impact on those guys to get them to read more then a chapter or so. Those people (I don't know any real numbers, so I'm going to make this up) are most likely only going to account for one quarter of your views, at most. The majority of views (especially if you can really get a lot of writing done) is going to be your Returning Viewers. These are the people who favorite/bookmark your stories because they're actually interested in the story you're writing. These people, like the Quickies, will stumble upon your story randomly, click on a chapter, and read. But, they will read more than just a chapter. They will go to your introduction, read through the early setup chapters and the slower chapter inbetween the sexy bits. They will remember the characters names and make up a mental image of their faces. A few may even comment or message you directly, follow you and check out any other works you've made. The third main group of readers is the Fandoms. These are the people who are looking for a specific topic to read about, whether that's a fetish, a popular series, or a particular character/celebrity. These are people looking more for an ao3 fanfic featuring their favorite character. The Quickies and Returning Viewers often share similar reading habits to the Fandoms, and may even be two at once, depending on the story.
I like that concept, to be honest it makes sense and in truth I potentially shouldn't be writing for anyone else other than me. To quote kevin costner in field of dreams "if you build they will cum"
