Trying to find a story

I don't remember much of the story anymore, but I do remember somethings. One: It's a mother son pair. Two: The mother is a wirter(I belive childrens book?) Three: The mother gains a magic wand, but it requires the use of ryhmes to work. Finally, four: The mother uses the magic wand on the son, and I don't belive it was in a nessarly good way.
