I have come to idea of writing story about female knight which fall into hands of the enemy king. But, instead of classic bondage stuff, making her break, he wants to get ransom for her. Badly for female knight, her own ruler refuse to pay for her ransom and her family fall in the wars, so she is only one of her house. Only thing what she possess, is her noble name and honour. So enemy king offers her chance to pay back by her own ransom. He will let her go for the year, to allow her to earn or somehow get money to pay back ransom. If she fail to do so, she has to return to captivity. Her renome is prove, that she will hold up he oath, sweared in front of army, nobles and clergy. Readers could vote for ways how to get promised money, in more or less corrupted ways, depending on their choice. What do you think about such idea? Would you be willing to read such kind of story?
I think it is an interesting twist that basically her honour is what forces her to try to earn the money. This could mean that if she is desperate enough, she might feel obliged to do some things that are normally abhorrent to her, if this is the only way she thinks she can make the money and stay true to her oath. But also, I think such options should be reserved to times when she is desperate because otherwise it diminishes the claim that she lives by a strict code of honour. Then again, her failing and being again forced by her own honour code to return to captivity would be an interesting path as well, because now she could say that she only failed because she refused to commit crimes or dishonourable acts that could have given her the money, but having failed, she can no longer refuse whatever treatment she is going to get from her captor.
This is similar to an issue some blackmail stories have. Someone is caught doing something they're not supposed to. They're blackmailed. But that only really works as long as they're being blackmailed into things that are less bad than the original act. Otherwise they're just digging themselves deeper. There's ways around that, for example if they're filmed without their knowledge or otherwise deceived about how bad the thing they're doing really is. And even if you don't go that route, it's not necessarily a death sentence: the suspension of disbelief can be pretty powerful. But you have to be careful. You can't just go from "caught stealing $20 worth of cosmetics" to "forced to prostitute themself in front of all their family and friends" in 1 step.
Yet another reason why I prefer corruption stories where the corruption bit is slow paced, not immediate. I do think that "I made an oath" is a good excuse, especially if they thought that getting the money would be as easy as going back and asking their family/allies to provide it, but then in practise there are all kinds of problems and they get progressively more desperate.
