Running on the dregs of her energy, Nami helps as much as she’s able to get everything unpacked. Finally she sinks back against the wall, breathless but satisfied that she’s done what she can. “Thank you, Kae,” she says. “For – for everything, but especially for – I don’t know. Understanding. Not judging.” She rubs her forehead. “Stars, what a day…”
Seri checked the bandages, thankfully, they were mostly clean, with small patch of red. Still, she changed the dressing for a new one and pulled the blanket over the woman, who gave a silent moan of annoyance. As Seri sat and waited, she realised that there were noises coming from not far away - someone was moving something heavy. Soon, she heard a familiar voice - Nami and Kaelaen seem to have returned.
Kaelaen pushed the last crate into the shelf. "This should give us a couple of days." At Naomi words, she just looked at her, then shrugged. "Anyway, soon Jura and Seri should get back - maybe they were more lucky then us - we do need credits." The Echani said as she stretched.
Any amount of red has Seri concerned, but then she doesn’t know the first thing about proper medicine. She can feel her head sagging against her hands, until the sounds from close at hand have her starting up again. Sluggishly, she hauls herself to her feet, wobbling in her boots as she lopes for the door. Feelings of embarrassment and failure bubble up inside her, but she has to see them - especially if Nami can help Jura. She makes her way out of the temporary ward, following the sounds of her friends.
@majus @Elfie “You’re right.” Nami nods, and then needs a moment to recover from the effort. Her neck did not want to do that. She levers herself away from the wall and moves to go with Kaelaen, putting one foot in front of the other. “We should check in…with…” Her face lights up, a small glimmer of renewed energy, as she sees a familiar Zeltron coming the other way. “Seri—!” she calls out. But – tired as she is, she’s not sure if she’s imagining it – “What’s…? Are you all right?”
@lady-lux @majus Seri sags against the wall, nearly losing what’s left of her meagre energy as she spots Nami and Kaelaen. Her eyes register the crate of what must be supplies, and she feels a wave of deeper shame and how little she has to show for their time apart. She limps closer, then stops, a few feet away. “I - I’m so sorry. I - I’ve let - let you down.” She hangs her head, blue-blonde hair falling around her face, till she looks up sharply, “J-Jura - she needs help. Please.” She reaches for Nami’s hand, glancing back the way she came, forcing herself to stay upright.
@majus @Elfie “Wh-what’s…?” Nami clasps Seri’s hand. “You haven’t, I don’t understand—” Panic fizzes up inside her – but she controls it, her training taking hold. This is what she does. She takes a deep breath, and nods to Seri, still holding her hand gently. “Show me.”
@majus @lady-lux Seri tries to keep herself controlled, her eyes wide and frightful - how much to tell, how much to reveal? For now, she just has to make sure that Nami gets to Jura, then everything will be okay. She leads them back down the corridor, glancing back and forth. “I did - did what I could - I think, I think she’s okay but.” She pauses, sucking in a breath, “She - she was cut. I was attacked and she saved me, but you need, you’ll need to see.”
@majus @Elfie A kind of calm comes to Nami in this state of crisis. A crisis, at last, of a kind she’s more used to. She lets Seri lead her – trying to convey that same calm to her as well. Aware all along that, having lost her bag, she has no tools on hand for this. But first of all, she needs to assess her patient.
@Elfie @lady-lux The trio entered the room, where Jura lay on the bed, covered with blanket, a sweat creating on her forehead. There is a visible bandage on her skin, disappearing further under blanket. Kaelae frowned at the sight. "Should we prepare to escape the station..." The Echani wondered, before turning to pinke skinned woman. "The attackers - did they follow you?"
@majus @lady-lux Seri let’s out a low groan as she sees Jura’s condition - the sheen of sweat already grown further. She looks between the three other women with panicked eyes, trying and failing to keep eye contact with Kaelaen. “No. No it was just one.” She confesses, in a very small voice, her arms wrapping around her. “She was… she was a slave like us. And she’s - I - she isn’t a problem anymore.”
@majus @Elfie Nami moves closer, examining Jura carefully: the state of her wound, the possible signs of fever, infection. With no proper medicines on hand, she has to ask herself: can Jura be made stable enough to be moved to the clinic on the Paraselene, or will the needed supplies have to be brought here? “Jura,” she asks softly as she works, “can you hear me?”
@majus @lady-lux A rush of adrenaline keeps Seri standing a little longer, anxiously hovering at Nami’s side. The urge to blurt out every last detail is strong, but she keeps quiet - for Jura’s sake. She knows these next moments could be critical, she just hopes she has the chance to make up for her mistakes.
@Elfie @lady-lux "A slave?" Kaelaen paused for a moment, in thought. "You mean, she was part of this ship?" She asked, her tone laced with anger. As Nami leaned over Jura, the woman stirred. "Hmm..." She moaned as she slowly opened her eyes. She blinked a few times before focusing on Nami. "Well... that's a nice sigh to wake up to." She said as her mouth slowly curved in a smile.
@majus @Elfie Nami smiles, relieved, leaning in closer – now looking in Jura’s eyes to check her pupils, how well she’s able to focus. “Good to see you too,” she says. “How do you feel?”
@majus @lady-lux Seri twists her hands together fretfully, unable to quite meet Kaelaen’s eyes. “It’s… complicated. It’s a long story. Sh-she was on the ship. She was a slave. But before that she… she worked with them.” She looks quickly over to Jura, hovering at Nami’s side - grateful for both the distraction, and that Jura seems to be alright.
@Elfie @lady-lux Jura blinked a few times. "Sleepy." She admitted after a moment. "And as if my insides were rearranged... not in a fun way." Jura smiled lightly, and Kaelaen snorted at the comment. "Well, you do seem to have a single-track mind." The Echani said before turning to Seri. She listened to a vague explanation before slowly nodding. "Will... 'they' be a problem?" She asked Seri. "Or the slave was the only one who would make trouble?" "Ah..." Jura sighed before turning to Kaelaen. "I am unsure if she worked alone or had a group she was working with... sure looked like she worked alone, but she might have had a co-conspirator..." She closed her eyes. "But that's me purely guessing." She admitted.
@majus @Elfie Nami laughs despite herself – glad that Jura is well enough to joke at least. But the story she’s half picked up – one of the former slaves did this? And whoever it was – it sounds like she didn’t survive. The idea twists her stomach. There are enough enemies out there without the people on this ship turning on each other. But there’s no time to focus on any of that yet. Tend to Jura, check on Seri – medical duties come first. (Does Nami think that Jura is still in need of urgent treatment, or does she just need rest?)
