Potential solution to loading chapters faster in Story Map?

Currently if I open Harem Hotel, the page takes forever to load. Clicking the target icon to jump to the chapter I'm currently on to the place in the Story map is pretty slow too.

I understand it takes time to load every chapter in uncollapsed mode.

Is it possible to only have the 2nd chapters collapsed and when one of them is clicked it uncollapses all the subchapters?

I know this won't work for every story but seems like a good solution for most things as sometimes we really just want to go through a single main branch.

I'd use this to specifically find my branch I write more easily so I can navigate faster and reference my previous chapters.

Perhaps load the Introduction, then every 2nd chapter collapsed. And if I uncollapse one the page loads every subchapter for that uncollapsed one.

If you can do that it'll definitely speed up load times.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ve reworked how the Story Map loads compared to the previous version. The biggest change is that “Go to Current” can now load the relevant section directly, without working its way through all the chapters before it. You’ll still see the surrounding chapters, so you have some context when you arrive.

From there, Load earlier chapters above the map lets you work backwards, while Load more chapters at the bottom extends the map forwards. There’s also Show from beginning if you want to return to the start. Loading more as you scroll still works as before.

Expanding a large branch now loads its chapters in batches of 500, with a Load more in this branch button underneath to continue through it. That should help when you want to explore the branch you’re writing without loading everything at once.

I tested this on Harem Hotel, and opening the map and jumping to a chapter both took around a second on my connection.
