This idea is a story about love betrayed: where a man seduces a married woman, tricks her into sleeping with him, then vanishes before the dawn, leaving her penniless and pregnant.

But that's just where it starts, it doesn't end there: not even close.

You see, the notorious philandering con man "Blackjack" has made a glaring mistake this time: he played his little game on a REDHEAD...

Now the young and comely wench who he's seduced, sullied, betrayed and robbed goes more than a touch crazy. Calling herself "The Blackjack's Lady" she becomes a 'highwayman' and serial killer, hunting, seduceing, robbing, and killing anyone else who betrays thier marriage vows all the while training her skills with pistol and blade and trailing the "Blackjack" twards the day when she can avenge his treachery that cost her her honor and virtue...

However, this is my question, where and when should I set this story?

I would see this playing in several settings:
    Elizabethen England...
    Tolkien/Pathfinder inspired fantasy realm...
Post-Apocalyptic wasteland, (of various kinds, zombie, Fallout inspired, Paranoia-like...)
    WH40K...
    Revolutionary era France...
    Ancient China...
Late Tzarist into early communist era Russia...
    Pre-Revolution America...
    Viking-Era Scandinavian...
(I think you get the idea by now...)

When you said blackjack I was thinking either pirates or in the world of casino's with loads of gambling. Of the ones you mentioned late Tzarist early communist era Russia does intrigue me the most.

Ye Olde England make the most sense.
As mindtheMILF said, pirates or casinos would also work.
But my soul cries out to do this with bolt pistol and flamer.

Yea, one thing I was kind of thinking of on the WH40K side WAS Pirates (Space Pirates), Blackjack is a freewheeling Rogue Trader who seduces the wife of a planetary governor and maroons her on a world in the Koronus Expanse when he tires of her. What he didn't know (Because he's kinda a Dumbass) was that there was a functional raider class star-ship buried under the sand of the world's largest dessert. After a long journey across the world sliding deeper into her psychosis she manages to get inside it and with some skilled maneuvering take command. Then when a group of pirates (With a HYPER-competent Renegade House Navigator) trailing the Rogue Trader, (stealing scraps from his findings,) show up, she gets them to help her unearth the ship and replenish it's crew. Slowly she takes control of the pirates and at the culmination of the story goes after the Blackjack. In a pitched space battle between their two fleets she teleports onto the bridge of his flagship, kills him in an epic duel, and puts the bastard son he begot of her womb before he marooned her in his place...

That's the end of the story, but it could be picked up in a "Series Two" with her son, Captain Davies Blackjack, now fully grown and in search of a bride... (Harder than it sounds because both mother and father were so notorious: not to mention he's got a VERY dangerous family business to run...)
