I recently stumbled upon the Chrome extension Lock-it.
When you activate it on a website, it will show a prompt "Do you want to leave this site? Changes you made may not be saved." on any navigation attempt (go back, close tab, close window, open link in same tab)
(It seems, that you have to open a new tab after adding it to Chrome to make it work.)

Maybe this could be useful to prevent some data loss while writing

Is there a similar addon for Firefox for Android? I've lost data several times to browser crashes.

The addon "Tabloc" could be similar, but I haven't tried it yet.
Not sure, if it is also available for mobile
