So I have been writing a thread for a story where it's main focus is on Male on Male sex but I have left the door open to either MMF threesomes or just plain straight sex. However I don't know if I should write those threads since they pretty deep in to the story so I feel like the people who want to read for the gay stuff will not be interested in the straight stuff. Is it better to stick to a orientation or mix things up?
Well, i am for opening things up. However that comes from a fairly close minded bisexual (I do have sex with guy but reading about is not my stick) so take it with a grain of salt. Traditionally though it would be a smarter move to stick to a consistent narritave, meaning that if you didn't heavily indicate that it will turn into MMF/Straight as well you are bound to alienate some people. We are also not professionals and in the end nobody is served if you lose interest over not following the path you want to follow. Bit of general bullshit you already know i guess. So I am for opening things up after all.
The benefit of having multiple option trees is that you can do both. If a story thread is unpopular because of the direction it went in, you could always backtrack and lead it to a more popular direction. That way, you can write for your own interests as well as appeasing the fans.
I think definately mark it as turning towards straight (in the text at the bottom at the start of the thread and in the titles of any straight scenes), but other than that, go for it. Which story is it, anyway?
https://chyoa.com/chapter/Yes,-Then-She-Has-Some-Fun.326641 There are a few points where it could fork with Bi or straight scenes. I have though about adding a label to the header but I always feel like that kind of breaks the flow of the story. I know it sounds silly to worry about immersion on a site for chyoa erotica but I like the idea of a readers being able to role play a bit and make choices they think the character would make.
If you have made it clear that the characters are gay then go for it. Just make sure the readers know where things are going. Bisexual and gay males are not something that most readers of the site want to stumble upon accidentally.
I'm gay, but I'll read bi stories with a male protagonist. I don't have interest in the M/F content, but I'm not a "ew, vaginas!" guy, so I can handle it. I agree that labeling branches with the orientation breaks immersion, but for me, it's better than going far down a M/F path, then checking the story map. If there's an actual story, I can skim M/F content to move the story along. As to what you're thinking of doing, I'd think it was strange to start a gay story, then the protagonist suddenly turns bi. Maybe at least hint at the possibility beforehand or describe a 'opening up' enough to indicate to the reader that that's on the horizon. If you're really worried about turning off the "ew, vaginas!" types, then just make a read-around option for the actual M/F sex content.
Well it is actually the flip of "gay to straight" its a straight character being turned gay (Mostly because the main theme in Mind Control). I might have very short "buffer" chapters so that someone can know "Ok this is going to be a straight or bi scene" before they click on to the actual sex scene.
MC justifies just about anything. I'm definitely gonna check out your thread. I'd read the other gay thread in that story, but I didn't go down yours because I thought it would just be succubus sex. Haha. Looking forward to it!
Yeah I wish there was a way to show the tags on a per chapter basis since it would make it easier to mark stuff Also I would love some feedback on what you think of the thread, I have really enjoyed writing it. Although waiting for chapters to get okayed is a pain.
A work doesn't have to be overall popular to be useful and good. That's the point of niche... That the consumers that appreciate a niche, will appreciate it more and find more appeal for its lack of popular conformity. 'Gay' is a pretty big niche, too, definitely worthy of some attention.
Agreed. More gay writing please! It's a niche that makes you feel good about every piece of positive feedback and like you get. Plus, I was expecting a lot of mean comments just for writing a gay story, but I've experienced exactly the opposite. Dive in!
I don't think you would get too much hate for writing gay stuff on a site like this people just want to get off, not complain about those darn gays. TBH I kinda expected some hate considering I started my thread seemingly straight but then switching to gay.
