My main problem with erotic fan fiction is when the characters behave in a way inconsistent with the established facts. For example, character A is suddenly a complete slut for no reason, or character B is suddenly gay without any kind of explanation. Or character C has enormous breasts. I don't see the appeal of fan fiction if you're fundamentally changing the characters you're writing about. Good fan-fiction should be written so that someone can read it, and go "Yeah, that all makes sense." That's my problem with recent Star Trek and Star Wars stuff. A lot of it doesn't make sense, even if it's the official thing.

Most of it makes more sense than you might think. Take the Spock/Uhura thing: if you watch the first dozen episodes of the original series, especially the first one after the pilot, you will realize Uhura DID have a thing for Spock. Younger people, different regulations: it actually makes sense.

Star Wars: if you think about it, what's wrong with the end of Return of the Jedi?

Vader's dead, Palpatine's dead, Death Star MK2 destroyed along with the senior members of the Empire military twice now: should be a new golden age, right?

    Wrong.

You know what happens when you yank our all the leadership types in a major nation?

    A power vacuum.

The empire has been in place for over two decades at this point: it's what everyone's used too. It's no surprise that a lot of people decide to sign on with these "First Order" jackoffs...

The Spock/Uhura thing didn't bother me. It was more the coincidences that had to happen in the first movie for everyone to get together, or the way the technology wasn't quite right. I've seen fan made episodes that felt more realistic than the movies. Star Trek: Enterprise also didn't quite fit as well as I would have liked. I don't expect Discovery to be any better.

I also didn't see a problem with the First Order in the Force Awakens. But like Star Trek, it felt like it was made by someone that only had a lose idea of the subject material. And Rey was too Mary Sue. People had long discussions about Luke Skywalker being a Gary Stu for George Lucas, but Rey took it to insane new levels. Now, Rogue One was a good Star Wars movie. We need more like that, but it was more of a one-off.

I'm conflicted. I think a lot of people tend to unfairly characterize them as awkward or uninteresting, put them in boxes, and spend little time appreciating their potential.

Conversely, their concerns of others, who tinker with them too liberally and insert themselves where perhaps they shouldn't, are entirely justified.

Ultimately, I'm somewhere in the middle; I like turtles, but would never touch one inappropriately.

Yeah but, what? I mean, what's the subject here?

It's a grammatical ambiguity pertaining both to turtles and (the aforementioned criticisms of) fan fiction. It's also a very unsuccessful joke.

  7. I think this is why when I rarely write something around a certain world, I tend to write about the other areas. Normally, a story is focused on certain characters, countries, groups, etc. One reason why, in my story, https://chyoa.com/story/Tales-from-the-raider.13195, I didn't write about the main character, or the main factions. I wrote about the faceless side of it, the bad guys, who are there in the game for you to shoot and kill. So, I try to create a story around them. Who are they, why are they. To show sides that you would never see in a standard story. More of a world building, and an interesting story, rather than just trying to shove the main character into some completely, arbitrary box. Although, not sure if I made compelling stories.

I'm not a huge fan of Unicorns myself except in certain very special situations.

1: is MLP:FiM, that was golden.

2: is something I've very rarely seen done and even more rarely done well. The basic idea is that unicorns can only reproduce while two immediately former virgins are willingly having sex nearby. They therefore go to immense lengths to find suitable people and bring them together. As I said, I've rarely seen it done and even more rarely done WELL.

So what you're saying is that Unicorns are evil parasites who coerce two virgins under the pretense that "Unicorns are good". Then they make those two people bang while they watch from nearby in order to subvert the conceived child for one of their own. Nine months later, a baby unicorn pops out to the horror of the mother.

yeah, i'm with @SeriousBrainDamage on this one.

Very good my friend, be sure to spread the word around.
The world must know the truth about them, it's our only hope to try and stop them before they accomplish their evil masterplan.

THAT is doing the premise exceptionally badly. In point of fact I can say with veracity that I've never even heard of a worse take on that premise.
