I've been doing a little work on a story for halloween. I doubt it will be in a usable state in time, but maybe next year. The basic idea is a simple one. A woman goes to a masked halloween party, and the fact that she isn't recognized lets her be more daring and wear a more revealing costume, and flirt more, and so on. The issue I've been dealing with is mostly the costumes. I'd like to have a bunch of options, some of which do a better job covering her face, or are sexier, for each costume. Some would be too daring for her to do unless you picked an option that covers her face better. Anyway, the trouble is that most (sexy) costumes don't cover the face, so it's hard to come up with ways around that. So far I've thought of the witch costume having a veil from the brim of the hat, and a skeleton costume with a face mask with a zipper over the mouth, but I'd like to have at least five costume possibilities.
I assume, that costumes don't have to be exclusively horror related... - some skimpy steampunk outfit with a mask or goggles - something with a dust mask or gas mask - a zombie with facial wounds (makeup?) and maybe white contacts - a genie with a veil - batgirl with a mask
After i googled for some pictures (which i posted here: https://imgur.com/a/tdlj1 ), i come to the conclusion that the costumes in questions need to have a mask that covers as much of the face as possible, including the hair. I feel like the cat woman masks don't cover enough, and so that person might still be very much recognizable. Some kind of ninja or animal mask might work. Any kind of full body suit might work.
I don't think so. Covering the eye area or mouth area should be enough, depending on the other guests. Just hearing the voice could unmask a friend, especially if you know which people are at the party. Really like that. Could be funny. If the costume is made of bandages only (bandeau bra, panties, stockings?) it could get loose after a while (if she uses safety pins, she could lose some on the toilet)
One word: furries. Besides that, you could try a sexy stormtrooper outfit (or similar), for a full-body mask.
Celebrity face masks Minions (yellow or purple ones will do) demons Mr. and Mrs. Frankenstein White sheet for a ghost
Wow, I got a lot more responses than I expected! Mummy is definitely my favorite, but a lot of these are good. Steampunk works, but gas masks aren't something I consider sexy. Genie is also good, and so are ninjas. Ghost is simple, but it works. I'd prefer not to do makeup ones, like zombies, as for the makeup to obscure the face, they have to look pretty awful. I know, I'm making a halloween story but I don't want the costumes to actually look scary. I also don't really like the way most things that go over the head completely like the stormtrooper mask, the celebrity face mask, or the furry mask look? Not totally sure why, maybe it's just the head/body proportions. I think I just prefer it to only cover part of the face, or not cover it completely, like the veils. Also, I might do a generic "superhero" one, but I doubt I'd do a specific one, for a few reasons.
Yes, Superman, Supergirl or Wonderwoman with just a pair of glasses. Zorro, Robin the boy wonder and numerous other superheroes and villains with a small strip over the eyes. Apparently this renders them completely unrecognisable to even close friends and family members if the writer so wishes.
Precisely. Seriously, you would be suprised how a different haircut and hair color combined with a different attitude could really make you urrecognizable in a crowded party. Don't let this stop you. After all, if the costume is that daring all of your friends will have hard times beliving that is you anyway. You just have to give them a loophole to think that: a different name, a wig, a fake accent, anything will do.
Acting needs self-confidence. More mask, more confidence. If she doesn't feel "safe", she will more likely reveal herself. Besides, some alcohol could make the actual recognition even harder.
You have a point, it's just that i don't find a concealed face very appealing and so i was looking for another solution. But if he wants his character to be so shy ... Alchool solves everything, as usual
I think Veiled belly dancer is basically the same as veiled genie. I think I'd be able to recognize most of my friends if they were just wearing a wig, but you could be right. What level of concealment would be too much for you to enjoy it, though? Also, I am not a he.
Sorry about that, didn't actually paid attention to it, it was a 'genderless' he. What i would enjoy should be rather meaningless to you, i mean, stick to what You like if you want to write this story, it will really help you out later on, when inspiration and commitment could fail you. Anyway i was just trying to sketch for you a situation: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The party is crowed, there's music, confusion, dim lights or coloured. Tons of stimuli. Someone introduces you to this girls. She tells you "Hey this is Yvette, she's doing a semester here, she's from Marseilles." You take a look at her: she's hot, dressed like some kind of sexy vampire. Heavy make, black mascara, white greaspaint and a cute little black clack that barely covers her thong-clad ass. A little red tail of fake blood at the corner of her mouth. "Hi. Did we meet already" You slur sipping your drink. She shrugs in her shoulder while his friends hurries to explain that's doens't undesterstand english very well. An then leaves, leaving the two of you alone in the middle of the crowd. She seems curious of you. She stares, almost expecting something. "Wanna take a breath of fresh air?" You ask, spelling out slowly in her ear. Out in the alley, under the crude light of a neon you check her out and offer her a cigarette. She hesitates for a moment. Her costume is really skimpy, and leave very little to the immagination. You leave you gaze linger on her body cheeckly. Technically a black bikini with a black hooded cape and hig heels black boots. She should be freezing out here, but proably she drank a lot, just like you. Suddenly she opens up in a tickled smile. "Am i funny?" She shakes her head, tilting it, just like often Kate does. Now that you think about it, she resembles your sister a lot. Her somewhat pouty lips, the cut of her eyes... Just the color is not right. Katy has blue eyes. Yvette's are black, deep and dark as the end of the alley. You shake you head laughing while she looks at you interrogativley. "It's nothing, for a moment you rembered me a lot of my sister, Kate. She couldn't come tonight, she's caught a cold." "I'm szorry... I should gets back inszide ... " She replies uncertain in her faltering english. You grab her wrist. You probably shouldn't have mentioned you sister, but to be fair you find the resemblance to be acually a real turn-on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I made it purposedly by the man prospective, just to show what i think it could go through a man's mind in that kind of situation.
For me, it would depend on the costume. A mask can make a girl mysterious. If it covers the eye area without covering the eyes, it draws the attention to her eyes and her lips. To find out what is behind the mask, you would study her eyes. Only seeing the (nicely rouged) lips because of sunglasses or goggles can be pretty sexy as well. It's the eroticism of not seeing. Some kind of teasing similar to lace lingerie. A mummy's bandaged face could maybe be a little much, though I think that the rest of the costume would make up for it.
Cyborg girl, a la Scarlett Johansson in the Ghost in the Shell movie. Nude body suit with some kind of fluorescent/ LED piping that hugs her curves. There's also a wig, blue or some other bright color, and colored contact lenses for her face. They wouldn't fool people in a one-on-one conversation, but they'd probably hide her identity if she's seen across a crowded room.
Why make it complicated? Add in a little magic that she turns and sees a different face in the mirror. Put on a white Marilyn Monroe and she's shocked to see she's a blonde! Adds to the horror factor if you go that route.
