I think it would be good if multiple notifications could be summarised, e.g. "AUTHOR has created XX new chapters in STORY. Perhaps clicking on that lets you see all of them. I love to see notifications for stories I've favourited but sometimes... well, the authors of "Fox in the henhouse" are so incredibly productive that they're overwhelming my notifications with many chapters every day. As I've only been on every week or so lately I've sometimes got over 100 notifications for this one story, hiding anything else. I've had to unfavourite it, just to see other things!
It'd be good if it aggregated all similar items since the notifications where last viewed, so you'd get something like: Author1 added 50 new chapters to somestory Author2 added 10 new chapters to somestory and updated 5 chapters Author3 added 2 new chapters to anotherstory You received 50000 likes and yet still 0 comments on yourstory Author4 created a new story titled somethingnew
Maybe combine "Story Creation" and "Chapters Published", like: GenericEditor168 has created the story Objects Being Inserted Into Holes in a Sexy Fashion, and published 12 chapters.
Oh yes, definitely if the one author has created them all. In my examples I had 4 different authors adding to/creating 3 different stories.
I'd use a similar structure as available in the notification settings. That means, if you follow a user which adds to a story you have on fav, you'd get a notification for both categories.
Is that the preferred behaviour? I suppose if the user has the story as a favourite, and followed the user then perhaps that's what they want. However, I'd rather it combine the notification into the story category, and show new stories/additions to stories I haven't set as favourite under the author. In the worst case though, you'd only end up with one extra line in notifications anyway so it's totally manageable.
Just my personal opinion. Well, probably, both versions have a drawback. Either you end up going to a story map only to see that there are no unread chapters, or you search for that last addition from your favorite (followed) author and think "Damn, I'm sure she added something recently!"
It would also be nice to be able to prioritise certain kinds of notifications. I have missed people commenting on my stories or following me a fair few times because they have come in a cluster of likes and other stuff. Simply being able to have certain things always appear first in the feed until you dismiss them would be a big help
I'm thinking that you can click on each summarised entry to show all the individual notifications within, so this shouldn't be an issue... Perhaps the full notification list stays exactly as it is, and just the tooltip version is the summarised digest. Edit: Oh, speaking of which, that tooltip notification window never has any content for me on Android. It only works on my pc.
