    hallo fellow authors :)

not sure if this has been covered before, but i'm pretty annoyed that people often add my stories to their favourites, but won't hit the like button on any of my chapters.
neither is that represented anywhere, like in my profile, nor does it affect my likes.
it only bothers me, because a little appreciation is quite nice. the only thing i can see, is how many times a chapter has been read. (which is nice:)
    thoughts?

Yeah, I suspect we all get this. There are two things I can think of. First is that a 'favorite' doesn't necessarily mean they like the story, just they want to keep an eye on it. Maybe they think the story has potential but they don't quite like it yet or maybe they want to come back to it when they have more time. Second, likes show up on activity where as favorites do not. Not everyone wants others to know what they are getting off to I am guessing.

I think it is the second one plus laziness. You don´t get anything from pressing the like button. They press favorite because they want to get a notice when a new chapter is published. Only a few people do press the like button anyway which means it sadly does not represent properly if your story is liked. But I think you can assume that people like it if you have a lot of views even on later chapters and a lot of favorites. But it would be great if you could see in the stats how many people favorite an author. Then it would be a proper status symbol

Likes are overrated. Number of views in later chapters helps an author determine if it is a good story or not more so.

This could be a reason. Maybe an option to restrict the "Recent Activity" tab to administrators?

Well, actually, readers would have the advantage that the story will be continued more likely. Though I guess, that is something, most readers don't think of.

In general, it should show the likes at a ratio, except there are only one or two likes on each chapter.
In combination with some genres, the comparability could be difficult. People could avoid to "like" to conceal their preferences (like said above), though they could stay anonymous. There can also be genres there the fans are more used to push the Like button (name it generation FB) where a higher percentage of the reader use that feature.

I think there isn't a suggestion about that yet.

As far as I know, views are also generated by crawlers, so the number depends on more factors like front page time, top stories, internal links, game mode and so on.
It may work better on later chapters, though I still think it isn't a reliable number. Additionally, if you already have a lot of chapters, it is quite too late to realize that it's crap ;)
And, tbh, I'd rather continue a story for 5 guys who constantly appreciate the work than for 50 Freeloader... I mean, it's a click!

I could also imagine, that readers are too immersed in the story or too "busy" to push the button. (In my current story there is drop to about the half of Likes at the sex scene chapters in comparison to before and after. So I can only imagine that they are crap, too short (though due to more decisions), or the aforementioned).

In other words, maybe if it would be possible to let people like anonymously they would do it more often. It would be great if this was an option at least, but maybe then it gets too complicated and they don´t do it anyway... hm...

    Well, maybe...

It wouldn't be completely anonymous as moderators should be able to see it and the chapter owners as well.
Additionally, it would be more difficult to find malicious ratings

    Exactly...
