I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I've been all over the forum and I couldn't really find anything about what "linking chapters" in your story does. Also, is there any possible way to have chapters meet up to the same outcome without copying a chapter and pasting it? Example: 1 leads to 2 &3 then 2 leads to 4 & 5 3 leads to 6 & 7 but then any choice of 4, 5, 6, or 7 leads to 8
Yes, with linking chapters you can connect a loose end of a branch with any other chapter of your story. In your example, you could add "8" as a normal chapter to "4" and then add one linking chapter to "5", "6" and "7" which would lead to "8" You can also create loops. For example, you could add a link to "8" which leads back to chapter "3". If you want to create slightly different outcome depending on the path the reader took to a chapter, you could use Conditional Branches.
Oh okay, thank you, another question if you don't mind; is that last time I tried messing with the linking chapters together it erased everything I had previously written on the chapter. Which led me to believe that linking the chapters to meet two paths into the same outcome wasn't the way of going about it. Does that mean that I have to link the chapters before hand?
You're welcome. A chapter link is a chapter on its own so it can't have content. A linking chapter basically consists of the link destination and the chapter title which will serve as an answer to the parent chapter's question.* After following a linking chapter, the destination chapter will show its own chapter title. (*Chapters of Conditional Branch stories may also contain conditions and score changes)
So how is the linking done? I tried to like a chapter and it didn’t work, do you type in the chapter number, like 3.2 or how does it work exactly? When you select link chapter?
Type the name of the destination chapter into the field and you get suggestions of chapters. Choose the right destination chapter from the suggestion box and save the chapter. If you open the edit page of the linking chapter again, you will see the chapter number of the destination chapter in the field.
