Looking around on google and bing for furry avatar pictures, I noticed a lot of unmotivation posters and even forum threads about furries that showed very divided opinions. Most people either seemed to really love them or really hate them. Personally I love furries. I find them to be fun to search for images for and I'm even a gold member on a gaming site about them.

So here is the question: What are your thoughts and furries and why do you feel this way? This is mostly just for fun and my own curiosity.

For me, Furries are just a fun way to explore sexuality. Kind of like this site lol.

I have a soft spot for furries because it was the very first fetish I learned about online (when I was on BBSes in the mid-1980s).

That said, due to my personal tastes, I find humans being transformed into furries more interesting than I find furries in and of themselves.

My feelings are that I find them a bit dishonest. They tend to very cute with their little ears but they always seem innocent and sexual at the same time. Even though I voted "hate" that seems harsh as I just do not like them. However women wearing some cute little animal ears - as Victoria Coren does on "Only Connect" for a Children in Need episode - I can find sexy, so maybe I am confused.

Furries can look cute, but I don't have a special preference for them.

Meh, I don't mind either way. They don't do it for me, but I don't mind playing furry games either.

I've started a few stories on CHYOA focusing on anthropmorphic characters.

My only real problem is that most of the time when "furry" turns up in a search, it's never JUST furry. I don't like dude-on-dude action, and yet 80% or more of any search I tend to get involved in that regards "furries" tend to focus on homosexual or bisexual male furries, so I'm almost always finding pictures of a dude furry sucking another dude furry's genitals or having male genitals up their ass.

Near as I can tell, there's no separate term for "furries with homosexual/bisexual pairings" and "furries with heterosexual pairings", so it's often a losing game of russian roulette with every search regarding the topic. I'd have a lot less problems if there were a lot less dick-on-dick actions showing up everytime the tag pops up.

So homosexuality is like putting a gun to your head.

As is often the case for me, Randall Munroe offers his compelling opinion, and despite the bad joke at the end, that's where I currently stand too. I used to balk at them, but then after going through psychology, a lot of fetishes made more sense to me. Yes, they probably develop because of sexual arousal can be paired with a non-sexual stimulus, typical classical conditioning, but it's a bit more than that for the person. The fact that furry porn does seem to be mostly involve gay male sex should be interesting in of itself. It could be an artifact of the internet and 4chan promoting it above everything else, so Google's search are biased towards it over a more varied community, but if it isn't, something is else going. So-called "outcasts" or "deviants" in society struggle the most when they are trying to find an identity to hang their hat on, and being gay is still extremely difficult in the world. You're either child rapists or disease carriers (Uganda) or "mistakes of nature" that should be corrected through gender reassignment surgery (Iran) or engage in behavior only suitable for consenting adults and should be treated more like a drinking age (Bahrain). Even in more friendly waters, you're just not welcome in stores (Indiana, US), some bigoted clerk will refuse to send a marriage license to you (Texas, US), or gobs of sympathy will be handed your way if you continue your "sinful" practices (as nice as Pope Francis is, this is still the opinion of the Catholic Church). In a struggle to find an identity and a community, people will flock to anyone who will accept them, and if they can express their feelings through that community, all the better.

Or, you could be overthinking it.

Incidentally, soapboxes like 4chan and webcomics aren't the kind of sources you'd wanna cite.

An idea is just an idea, people are more complex than ideas, and extremists gain more visibility.

Having a Bisexual wife made my thoughts on sexuality more open. I've never cared about whether a guy I knew was interested in men or women, but before meeting my wife I really didn't give it much thought either. My wife is more interested in women than men (So I obviously got very lucky....) so I sometimes catch her looking at lesbian porn or stuff like that. When I do searches like for my furry avatar, she was watching my laptop intently most of the time.

I'm honestly not bothered by her attraction to women. It has made our relationship fun, both because of doors that we have went through with our sex life, and because we can go on dates and talk about the ass of the girl in front of us without any jealousy or fighting. We even rate the ass and normally we agree on whether it is a 10, 1, or somewhere in between.

I do have friends that are gay and one of them is actually pretty precious to me. I look at this guy like a brother and we have been friends for probably ten years or more. I figured out his sexual preferences from watching his reactions to certain conversations and I never cared about it. When he confessed his preferences, he was terrified he would lose me as a friend because of it, just as he had several others. But I was willing to accept him as he was and we are still friends to this day. We even played Fable 3 one xbox live a few times and somehow ended up married while trying to open a demon door. My character was the female while his the male hero. After that, it has been a running joke with us on the forum we hang out on that we are husband and wife.

Now back onto to furry topic:

I enjoy furry porn and games. My wife even dressed as a cat girl for me once.... But I normally have to dig to find things that interest me as well. There really is a lot of gay furry porn, but if that is what they like it is fine with me. I simply ignore it and move on with my search.

That's why it's great having tags, especially weighted tags. Then you know which stories or images will cater to whatever tags you searched for. With stories of multiple threads, you can see how many threads pertain to that tag. Perhaps in the future, a tag blacklist on the site could display a vague warning that a story choice will take you to a thread with a tag you wish to avoid. That way stories can still branch out and cater to a wider spectrum audience, but that doesn't mean you need to avoid that story entirely.

Well I consider XKCD a bit more thoughtful than, say, /b/tards that say "Tits or GTFO," but to each their own. Being in psychology for some time, you tend to wonder where things came from and why.

If we're talking about the anthropomorphic animals themselves, they don't do anything for me, but they don't bother me either. I've seen what Beeble42 is talking about, characters with cutesy faces and sexualized bodies, and that mashed-up aesthetic activates the remember-those-cartoons-you-watched-as-a-kid brain region rather than the this-is-so-sexy-yeah-YEAH brain region. That said, playfulness seems like a big factor in the furry art I've seen, sexual or otherwise, and I see the appeal in that.

If we're talking about the community around anthropomorphic animals, they seem like good folk. Honestly, think of how many truly sinister kinks there are on the Internet. People make fun of that community because they have an unusual hobby that doesn't hurt anyone, which makes them easy targets. Who has the stomach to troll message boards where actual predators dwell?

I agree, the furries (Both live and drawn) hurt nothing and no one. They can be entertaining and I've even thought about going to a furry convention just to see how it is. From what I've heard and read, most of them choose a single animal to be their "Fursonality" and generally don't change. They invest in that character and that is who they are when they are in it.

As for the other trolls out there... I have seen some sites that are interesting, but then there are others that I really don't like. I've seen one where there are guys who want the age of consent lowered to 12! I think that right there is something to find disgusting, not furries.

Not even remotely what I meant, but I apologize if that's how I came across as.

I'm just saying that among all the various tags & topics that are likely to show up in a search, male-on-male sex acts are not ones that I actively search for. It's like taking a bite out of an oreo only to find that the filling was replaced with toothpaste.

Most websites that I go to have tags and finding straight (or lesbian) furry is easy enough.
