Uhm, sorry but I'm just curious.
I come visit from time to time but I see the old issues (old linked threads missing, question marks instead of quotes in old stories, and so on..) are still there and there has been no changes in what..6 months?
So..it's all just on hold or there's some other problem (legal or whatever)

    Bye ;)

    Hi Mr.B.,

    I hope you’re doing well.

I know there hasn’t been much development on the current version of the site. Instead I have been working on Chyoa 2, a revised version with new technological standards. I’ve decided to recode most of Chyoa since some fundamental features, like rpg stories or roles for stories (e.g. editors) haven’t been sufficiently implemented before.

I’m confident that the first preview of Chyoa 2 will be available in around 2 weeks. And with this new code base we can implement new features faster.

See you in two weeks :)

    Best regards,
    Friedman

Edit: 2 weeks was probably a bit overambitious, but I'll hurry.

Hi Friedman, thanks for the answer :)

That's awesome, I wasn't expecting so much. It's all very interesting, I wish I had the time to learn how to code.
Take your time of course, and if you need help (from anyone) just ask.

    Have a good day,
    bye ;)

Given how nice a job you did on Chyoa in the first place Friedman, I'm sure Chyoa 2 will be awesome.

lol wow chyoa 1.0 hasn't even been up all that long and already plans for 2.0? This is why I like having good Mods. Things get done even when we don't ask for them lol.

Are we there yet? Even if it isn't ready, a summary of new features would let me start thinking of story ideas I can begin planning for.

Friedman, by "features for RPG stories" do you mean having variable statistics/atributes, like a health or money counter? Because that'd be pretty awesome, I could have a lot of fun with that! :D
Thanks for all the work, amazing that we're moving up to 2.0 already.

We're not there yet :) But I'll post a list of the upcoming features within the next days.

That's right. You'll be able to define variables and change their values per thread (assign a specific value or count up and down depending on the type of the variable). Not in the first Chyoa 2 release but definitely following is the possibility to only show certain paragraphs within a thread depending on a variable. My first objective was to set up an environment that can provide such extended features. This means that at the beginning of a story in Chyoa 2 a new slot is opened for each user and each game, where your score will be saved. Comparing this with the current version, you find that the threads do not remember which thread you have visited before, which makes the integration of RPG stories impossible.

Holy hell, Friedman, you're going above and beyond!

Thank you! I can't wait to see Chyoa 2.0!

As announced, here are the biggest changes in the upcoming Chyoa 2 release:
    • Activity stream
    • Single story page
    • Story Variables and Conditional Branches
    • Gamification
    • Consistent notifications, particularly with regard to comments and ratings
    • On-site messaging system
    • Stats and metrics for stories
    • Single Sign-On (site and forum)
I will announce a definite release date in advance. So everybody knows when we're going live with the new version.

Until then, happy reading and writing!

    That's cool Friedman.
Though, what do you mean by single story page, and gamification?
I've not seen either of those discussed anywhere. I read the Wikipedia article on gamification and I struggle to see how you're going to apply the philosophy here... unless its just something like achievements/badges for contributions.

Y'know, I'd kind of love to kill this thread and start over with a new title, since "Site Development Dead?" just has the wrong feel to me. (I see that it doesn't balk @Friedman -- looking forward to Chyoa 2, sir!)

I'm wondering if existing stories can be converted to variable mode or not.

That would be good, but realistically the structures of most stories probably wouldn't make it easy.

Great news, kudos to you :)

@Friedman: no modification to the actual threads approval system? Sorry if I'm a little annoying about this, but I think it is THE major issue of the site. I see plenty of "not yet approved threads", and I'd hate to lose users (especially writers) because of this. If you don't want a new system, maybe a couple of "super editors" that can approve (or not) 1-week or 10 days old threads in all the stories can be a solution (possibly with a little something that can help them with the visibility of those threads)

bye, have a good we ;)

1 week or 10 days seems far too eager to me; editors can't go on vacation? Although I suppose an editor could delete a thread if it was approved against their wishes.

The internet moves quickly. Perhaps if there was a setting on stories where creators and editors could allow posts to be auto-approved either immediately or after a set period...for that story. Trouble is, monitoring so much user-generated content is cumbersome, and I can't help but wonder if this is one of the factors why people start so many stories rather than work on them together. It's a battle between preventing stagnancy and filtering out cheap mass production.
