if you're going to harshly criticize a thread or post, at least be an author on that story to show the rest of us how it's supposed to be done! To paraphrase Ben Franklin, those who are good a criticizing are seldom good at anything else.
In a word: 'NO'. When I critique a work it typically is at the authors own request, and I seldom feel inspired to add to the stories of such self-assured narcissists.
As much as I can sympathize wicker, that's not really a fair standard. I think most of us can be opinionated about all sorts of things (music, movies, art, etc) without actually being able to make those things. I wouldn't mind Chyoa doing what Literotica does though and allow an author to delete comments from their own chapters. Sometimes comments are just purely negative and add nothing productive. One thing I've found in my experience with smut writing is that many folks seem to have a problem judging a thing for what it is. Some comments and criticism reminds me of a wine tasting judge who only likes Merlot. They will taste a Pinot Noir and go "Ugh, this is just awful! This doesn't taste anything like a Merlot!" Well...it isn't a Merlot!!! It has to be judged as a Pinot or the opinion means very little. But it is what it is. I try my best to dig into criticism and try to see if there is a useful nugget in it. If not, if it is just online bullying or trolling, you just have to try to ignore it and move on.
I do not believe I am the center of the universe: however, I am quite certain that I cannot perceive the universe except through my own senses. Perhaps equally poignant, just because we CAN, doesn't mean we WANT TOO. I could, quite easily, add a chapter to every story I've ever critiqued to "show them how it was done"... I feel less than no desire to do so.
I think by posting on the site you are accepting the fact you will get criticism you don't or agree with. Everyone has had to deal with that. Grimbous said it best that we need to be judged for what it is, porn, not literature. I know I write porn, it's not for everybody, it is what it is, and people can enjoy it or hate it as they wish. I do agree with you that some people who bitch should try it and see how they do before complaining too much.
1.) If you wish to use a quote, wicker, it'd be a good idea to get the attribution right - since there's no evidence Franklin said the original - and an even better idea to not completely flout the original quote's meaning when creating your derivation. 2.) Considering you've already broached this subject before, and everyone except you shared the opinion of grimbous by the way, I'm not about to let you open this discussion again. Topic locked. Also, Nemo, I'm going to assume that this: was a legitimate mistake and not intentional since you sided with grimbous in this case and can find no history of bad blood between you, and therefore only edit it and draw attention to it, rather than take formal action.
