Story with a tentacle monster protagonist

Tentacle monsters seem to be a popular inclusion in science fiction or fantasy stories. Problem is that usually such chapters are quite cliche and predictable and, in a huge majority of cases, never goes beyond "It wants to fuck female protagonist in all orifices. Female protagonist either avoids it or doesn't. Usually doesn't" storyline.

I am considering writing a story (or creating a deep branch in some existing story) that not only has a deep truly sentient tentacle monster character but a story which is told in tentacle monster's POV. I want to see a storyline with actual developing relationships between the tentacle monster and its 'victims' (some branches may have 100% consensual relationships).

Does it sound like a good idea or I need to scrap the whole concept?

Most tentacle monsters are just that, monsters. Once you grant them sentience rather than instinct you have to look at what they are and why they do what they do. Self reflection and even the question of why would a 'tentacle monster' engage in relations with human women and not seek to find other tentacle monsters. The fundamental question of 'what am I and how did I get here' would need to be approached in order for the protagonist to be believable and likeable. In that lays the problem, the backstory of what it is, whether it is unique and what is it's place in the world doesn't jump out with eroticism.

I suppose you could then look at something from a purely consensual angle, but then is it a tentacle monster - something which is inherently 'alien', or just a human with a different body? If it has angles of being consensual some of the time and not on others then do you have a divergence of something which is willing to rape but also pursuing romantic relations?

Perhaps a human which has by one means or another been transformed into a tentacle monster, but unless this is common place in the setting then how would people react to this? As you said, most stories are from the victims POV, normally with surprise that such a being exists and then they don't explore what the victim does afterwards. There is no development of relationships, and for that you need to understand the thinking of all parties.

So I think it is an interesting idea, but some thought over the protagonist and setting would need to be established to make it in any way relatable, which is something required in relationship stories. In my opinion.

I am not short of ideas of backstory for the "monster". Actually I am leaning toward one of three ideas

1)Appocalypse setting: Tentacle monsters just appeared out of nowhere. They have intelligence. They have strong urge to mate with humans. They have no prior knowledge and no idea where they came from or what their purpose is.

2)Fantasy setting: Tentacle monsters are quite common and almost every race considers them to be a pure evel and does everything possible to exterminate them. They can procreate only by using female humanoids as hosts. They have a developed society thanks to ability to communicate telepathically with each other over long distances.

    3) Science ficiton setting: Spaceship. Privateers\Mercenaries\Smugglers\Traders. Crew of two: Female human and a tentacle monster-like alien. They fall in love and need to solve the problem of biological incompability and different concepts of sex.

Playing Devils Advocate and aiming to be helpful in my critique.

    1) In an Apocalypse setting why would any women want to have sex with a tentacled monster? Why wouldn't the initial reaction from the survivors be 'kill it'? Why wouldn't a sentient creature want to know where it came from let alone what is its purpose?

    2) If tentacle monsters are considered pure evil why would any woman want to have sex with it? Surely it would be hunted continually and thus back to being a rape monster? And if it has to use female humanoids as hosts I imagine the punishment to the woman, in the fantasy setting, would be death?

    3) Why are they together on a ship? If they are both known sentient aliens why haven't these factors been approached in the past?

Of the three the third idea sounds most plausible. The tentacle monster is a sentient alien race, one amongst hundreds, and is known. Think a Star Trek like situation where one of the crewmen is the titular 'tentacle monster'. You are then exploring the protagonists sexual viewpoints, developing it's relationships with the mostly human crew which are mostly unaware of the 'new' species to have joined their ship allowing you a platform to explain things in scene. If you want to throw in the occasional 'tentacle monster rape' then there are countless ways to have it lose control without it then being flushed out of an airlock for the crime, even then exploring it's feelings towards those actions. Especially if the race does have some primal 'fuck all holes' emotions that the civilised and sentient tentacled species has to suppress, or the race still has a very 'non-consensual' attitude towards sex within the species.

    1) I didn't actually say that 100% consensual branch is guaranteed. Yet there are other ways except straightforward rape. Something like providing food and protection for sex that may develop in some kind of other relationships. They need a way to communicate, but this is solvable

    2) Well, there are many ways to start consensual route. Even something simple like a wounded female warrior being 'attacked' by the monster only to be healed and not touched because this one has different ideas about acceptability of rape. As for why full extermination doesn't happen... It is not that easy if they live somewhere like Amazon forests.

    3) Actually my idea here that "tentacle monster" aliens aren't usually interested in other species. As for why they are on one ship? They live in a a empire\federation\republic that spawns over many star systems and has many citizens. Why can't they start cooperating?

Ultimately it is your story and you can take whichever direction you want with it, I was merely asking questions and offering suggestions in order to create a believable setting. I'm willing to act as that sounding board if you would like me to.

    Playing "angel's advocate" (I guess):

1A: Perhaps it has saved her life from something worse and is able to talk, thus, over time, building a romantic relationship?
1B: Perhaps the tentacle monsters appeared later, not the cause of the apocalypse just a side effect, like a RIFTS type situation for example?
1C: Who says they don't 'want to' that doesn't mean they DO: the 'why are we here' question has bedeviled humans since the beginning of time, why should the tentacle monsters be any different?

2A: Perhaps the woman in question has the ability to sense 'evil' much like a D&D Paladin, and ergo sensing that this tentacle monster isn't evil, desires to propagate this superior trait, (from her perspective,) among the species?
2B: Maybe, or, going back to the previous reason, the woman has the power/authority to declare this specific one an exception? Sort of like a presidential pardon?
2c: Maybe, but this is a fantasy setting, depending on the cultural basis and amount of magic commonly available their attitudes might be more enlightened, knowing that the woman had no choice in the matter and as such was blameless. (I point to an existing example of such as fantasy setting in the 'Valdamar' series by Mercedes Lackie.)

3A: Three ideas spring to mind Immediately:
I: They are an experiment by their respective governments in such mixed-race missions. This allows for conflict with both races being shocked and appalled by the interspecies romance.
II: Wheels of Circumstance: the two of them were thrown together by chance, such as each having half the funds needed to purchase their ship. This opens possibilities of the two of them questioning why fate has thrown them together as the romance deepens...
III: First Contact: The tentacle monster or the human was rescued by a scout ship of the other species after being found alone in a damaged derelict in suspended animation...
3B: As for why they haven't been approached, this is very simple: there must be a first time for everything and these two 'drew the short straw', so to speak.

Something to consider in this last sentence: humans are VERY unusual even on Earth in that mating involves consent at all, take a look at the common housecat, not only does the female not enjoy sex, it's in fact incredibly painful, and this is a necessary part of the mating process for that species...

1A: I find your lack of commitment to this concept troubling.
1B/C: Protection, Companionship, and Shelter are also things the Tentacle Monster could provide to win the woman over.
1D: That's easily solvable, it's your story, just say the tentacle monster can talk and you're done.

2A&B: A tentacle monster cleric could be an interesting concept: it also could neatly explain why it's not evil, it had a religious conversion and changed its life.
2C&D: There are also several other environments that could make such a campaign difficult: aquatic, subterranean, swamps/marshes, and forested mountains to name but a few.

3: This seems like a perfect solution to me, something vaguely like the Star Wars galaxy, or the Buck Godot universe.

One route I have in mind that tentacle monsters have telepathic abilities. But protagonist is a deviation of norm and additionally/instead has empathy. If you feel what your victim feels... chances are you won't even consider raping anyone.

Very true, you could have him as being an older or more experienced tentacle monster that has gained a level of sentience from the telepathic communication it has with it's victims, adding in an element that the fucking of every hole isn't just a physical sensation to the monster but also an empathic one. Thus if you want to include the more traditional tentacle rape scenes you can do these through retrospectives. Alternatively a young tentacle monster who unlike his brethren has more self control, exploring the idea that tentacle monsters have sentience but something about contact with outside women turns them into rape monsters. Or some combination of both or something completely different, I'm just spit balling ideas.

There's some tentacle/goo-monster story already up where the main character is an alien that lands on Earth and it goes on to explore and "study" a human family. Unfortunately I think the story was abandoned as it had potential.

In general though, if the tentacle "monster" is an alien then there is no need for it to be brainless. Maybe that's just how their species evolved and interspecies romance awaits when it is discovered that they are "compatible" with humans?

This backstory adds guilt to the motivation and this sounds interesting

I don't think that any kind of genetic compatibility is required for sex. After all sex is very possible without intention of making babies (sorry, pregnancy fetishists :) )

And I did just mean sexual compatibility rather than the ability to produce offspring.

After all, with alien species even that is not a given (unless we go with the common "Star Trek" style aliens and not have anything truly "alien" and different.)

that's practically nonconsensual as you "threaten" someone with death if they don't have sex.

It is only consensual if it is offered without expecting something in return.

That could start with "You saved my life!" - "You're welcome!" (walks away) - "How can I ever thank you?" (runs after the tentacle monster) - "Nevermind!" - "I don't have much..." (searches her bags for what she has left) "Some food... here..." - "Oh... I get stomach troubles from beans..." (smiles) "But it's okay..." - (she follows a while) "I... I... could..." (opens her shirt and shows the hint of her braless breasts) (whispers) "Do you [name of race] like that?" - (tentatively slips a tentacle underneath the shirt and strokes her naked skin) - (whispers) "Then that'll be your reward..." - (gets nervous) "Don't tempt me." (slips another tentacle into one of her pant legs) "It's hard to control ourselves once we started..." (strokes her cheek with another tentacle) - (whispers nervously) "It's okay..." (kisses the tentacle before slightly opening her mouth) - (gasps) "I warned you..." (slips the tentacle into her willing mouth)
(Well... depending on the monsters self-control, it could drift into non-con as well)

They could have inherited the ship together. This could even lead to a secret backstory where the ship was formerly owned by the father of the tentacle monster who gave away the half of it to the mother of the human girl to thank her for bearing his child (depending on the procreation method)
(depending on procreation (surrogacy), this could be considered as incest-themed)

Are tentacle monsters male, female or hermaphrodite? How does their natural procreation work?
If there are males and females, the females could have pretty deep orifices which must be penetrated by long tentacles to make them ready to conceive. (could be a way to avoid other races to impregnate their females)

Or it could have evolved as a test of fitness in the male half of the species: say the environment of their homeworld is not as conducive to wanton sexuality as Earth, if only the males with the longest and most flexible penises reproduced successfully, after a while you would get tentacle penises. Imagine for example the females have a vagina that is kinked and bent like the human large intestine, only a tentacle cock could reach the uterine opening to impregnate... Imagine that somehow, later, they evolved TWO fully functional vaginas to control reproduction rates, now the male needs two cocks to produce the same number of children: then perhaps something creates a much more convivial environment for spamming children ensuring genetic survival, this could lead to a proliferation of both penises and uterus in males and females respectively...

    Just some random thoughts...

One approach could be a young or naive monster who “thanks” people by giving them immense pleasure. The language barrier confusion alone could allow for different viewpoints (monsters, the ‘victim’, third parties) with an overarching storyline about being misunderstood.

You should check out this Twine game (browser based choose your own adventure) from ArmyOfRobots; https://www.tfgamessite.com/?module=viewgame&id=1337

I'm currently working on an alternate version called Breed on this site with the authors' permission that makes the protagonist a bipedal creature in the vein of Doomsday from DC comics. I'm actually not into tentacles which is the whole reason why I started it, but if it's your thing they've made the monster a jelly blob that can release gas that alters all sorts of things, including emotional states etc. It's still rape in the same way drugging a woman with ecstasy without her knowledge would be rape, but in terms of story line the women become willing to varying degrees. If tentacles are your thing you should definitely download the game and have a read.

I like your Doomsday type alien story the one thing that seems a bit off to me anyway "IF" this alien is supposed to basically be a breeding doomsday how come he's getting killed by rockets and helicopter fire? This is the creature that "killed" Superman and he's killed by bullets and rockets? Just seems to me that this alien has bark but is severely lacking in the bite...than again he is a lover not a fighter so far,
