So, no suggestion for replacing the "all-time best" stories sections has ever gotten any traction, and, you know, I can sort of see why, having your story up there in that August hall of fame must be quite the ego trip, and so is the idea of getting your own story there someday, but, with the addition of the 'highlight' section there's an ever-expanding section of unused space in the sidebar, and I propose we fill that space with the following: Chapter Of The Week: We have the top stories of all time and top chapters of all time already, but only a weekly story, and to me, this, like a horny woman's cunt, seems like a gap that needs to be filled! Chapter of the Week would go to the chapter with the highest number of new likes and bookmarks this week with the following restrictions: 1: may not be an introductory chapter. 2: may not be a chapter in any other SotW, SotY, Top Story, or already have been Chapter of the Week within the past year. Stories Of The Year: any story that has been SotW within the past calendar year-and-a-quarter is eligible to be chosen for one of (unsure of the exact number, around three to ten somewhere) stories that receive "Story of the Year" on January First. Once a story has been Story of the Year, it cannot be Story of the Year again for the four years following its 'reign' year, so, for example, if your story won for 2020, it couldn't be Story of the Year again until 2025. Additionally, Stories of the Year cannot also be Top Stories. During their "Reign Year" if they would become a Top Story they receive the banner for Top Story but don't move into the top story rankings, but if they still are qualified as a Top Story at midnight on CHYOA Standard Time Jan 1st of the next year they then move into the appropriate slot of Top Stories. Chapters Of The Year: basically just a mashup of Stories of the Year, Chapters of The Week, and Top Chapters: can't be an introduction, can't be part of a story that's already on one of the other lists, stays up for a year, no two can be both from the same author and the same story, can't also be a top chapter, etc. What do people think?
Might be fun. It's basically an incentive for people to post and keep posting, and an attraction for readers to see what others think is worth reading.
I really like the idea of having chapter of the week, it could be a great way to draw attention to well written chapters, and that is always a good thing. My issue with story or chapter of the year is having the same story / chapter on the front page for that long gets boring. Nemo, we both use this site a lot. How often do you reread stories on the top sex stories list? I rarely do, yet every time I come on this site I still see the same stories on the top list. This does nothing for me. Yes, I entirely understand it is good for new visitors to be shown the top stories on this site, but for people such as myself who frequent this site, I much rather be shown a cool new story or a well written old story than to see The Gamer, or At the Cabin for the nth time. I love the idea of chapter of the week as it will allow me to see chapters and stories I otherwise might have missed, but I don't want to have to see yet another story on the front page again and again.
Believe it or not, that's actually the POINT of the "Chapters/Stories of the Year" feature. The idea is that by giving them a year of constant exposure they might reach the necessary critical mass of followers to dethrone some of the 'top stories' / 'top chapters' items which as far as I can see basically only change when they either alter the algorithm or something so unutterably amazing that it damn-near breaks the site like The Gamer or Bosom Buddies comes along...
Wouldn't it just be better then to change how 'top sex stories' works? Having a story/chapter of the year feature would only change which ten stories and chapters everyone has to see when they enter the site, not that we are seeing the same stories over and over again.
I agree that it would be cool to get some variance on the stories that are featured on the sidebar, because now it is pretty much static. However i am also afraid that if anything new is added, this as well could just become another static placeholder of whatever content. For this reason i don't like the"xxx of the year" suggestions. Perhaps if the content that is shown would change in regular intervals (random? daily? weekly?), to make it more dynamic? For example the top 5 (or 10) stories or chapters of specific categories could be featured. Cycle through all the categories on a daily or weekly basis. The top "trending" stories or chapters, i.e. those that received the most likes or views the last day, week or month could be a list that could be shown on occasion. The top "trending" stories of specific categories. The top "new" story of the last 3 days (calculated on a daily basis) could be a thing. Story + Chapter of the week could still always be on top, while the two top ten lists that we have currently have could be pushed to the bottom of the side bar, or even share one spot, and switch daily or weekly.
Odysseus, Dingdongs, the point here is those sorts of things have been suggested before and have never gained any traction. Like it or hate it Top Chapters and Top Sex Stories are here to stay. Instead of whining that you want a total overhaul which will never happen try looking at something that might actually go through. I don't like the present system any more than you do, so I suggested a change. I get that you think that it doesn't go far enough, but what you have to ask yourselves is this, "What would be 'far enough' for me, and how many people who like the current system would that piss off?"
Related suggestion. That wouldn't change the basic problem of showing big stories with a lot of likes. You would then show 5 x 27 = 135 Top Stories. I checked some stories between 100 and 150 (sorted by rating) and picked three of them (values are "rounded"). 1500 Likes 300 Chapters 420 Favs 1500 Likes 170 Chapters 260 Favs 1500 Likes 70 Chapters 500 Favs The rating implies that the "quality" is the same, doesn't it? So if you add any rating based on that total likes rating, you'll get a static result. And if you want to displace a story of the Top Stories, that story must be - smaller with higher quality - bigger with lower quality - smaller with lower quality but a lot of favs - ...
