Writing a sex story without much sex

I had a idea for a new story that I really like, the problem is I have no idea where sex is going to fit into it. I have no doubt I will be able to fit in a sex scene here and there but the premises of the story is unabashedly non-erotic.

There is a lot I like about CHYOA, which is why I want to write this story here, but I don't want this story to be neglected by the readers of the site because it isn't erotic enough.

Has anyone here ever written a story like this here? If so, how did it go?

There is a non-erotic category... I don't know how much traffic those stories get, and I don't think I personally have ever done one, but, if you're willing to slam the door on the erotic side completely, you might play that side of things...

It's not there will be no sex, it's that it won't be about sex. There are lot's of stories here that either have an explicit premise, or find some way to fit lots of sex into a story. I fear my story will be neither (the sex scenes will be few and far between) and was wondering if anyone has attempted a story here like that.

    Hi,

I am one of the writers of "The Gamer, CHYOA Edition" and throughout its many paths we have basically none them that are exclusively sex focused (although we have a whole spectrum of 'almost no sex' to 'sex almost every other chapter'). Personally, I go as many as 12 chapters at a time without an actual sex scene, sometimes more sometimes less. I don't think i need to point out that the story has been a rather large success. Granted, the story PROMISES sex by virtue of the MC being a huge pervert anyway, so the premise is different.

All I can tell you is that people often come for the porn and stay for the plot. The execution of "few sex chapters" should work if the premise and writing carries the initial chapters to the point where enough readers are engaged and you have a stable reader-base.

Put it short: It works, generally.

Personally, I prefer at least some buildup prior to scenes instead of stories that just jump into high gear. Course, it all depends on the writing.

When I was still bothering to actually write, I always felt that I'd end up spacing things out too long, but on the other hand....and this will sound really counter productive and it's entirely possible it's just a me thing but....stories that are absolute constant sex without context or atmosphere actually get pretty boring fast.

The Internet turned me into too big of a pervert to be sufficiently amused with something as simple as "He puts it in her vagina. He cums inside it. It was cool."

And you'll here some people say that they just want things to get straight to sex for lewd games and things but I think they might only think that and if they got what they wanted then they would complain that the pacing is way too fast because there's no pleasing some people.

So the point? Even if there's only the occasional one, it should be fine to label it as erotic. The meaning of it in itself is whether or not it contains erotic content and if there is still the occasional scene in it, then it does.

Back before I dropped off the map, my story to prove superiority was despite it's setup, pretty sex free. it happened from time to time, but not that often. It was received fairly well, and the rare sex didn't seem to bother people that much.

    I say go for it!

Agreed, it's all about expectation, if you keep the amount of sex more-or-less consistent throughout the story, a block of one to three chapters out of every twenty or so on average, as an example, they should be okay with it.

It's kind of like establishing a time signature for a piece of music, a complicated one like a five-movement symphony. You have to know when to keep the beat, when to change the beat, when to vary the beat: and when to throw the beat out the window and jump into some kind of wild guitar or drum solo that breaks all the normal rules: plus when to call a halt to that and start the beat back up again...

Hard at the best of times, but SOOOO rewarding when you actually pull it off...
