i created a story and set it to private because I do not want just anyone to be able to update it.

People are leaving comments asking to contribute.

    What are my options?

How do I communicate with people leaving feedback? Is it even possible

If you set a story to public you still, as editor have certain controls over the contributions to the story. Threads need to be approved by the editor. If you believe they are incompatible or too badly written or too short a thread you can reject them. For minor errors, such as spelling or getting established facts wrong you can edit threads before you approve them.

As far as I know you cannot contact people leaving feedback through the story site. Only on this forum section, providing they have registered here also and are registered by the same name with which they left the feedback.

I thought the forum and site accounts were inherently linked together. So you could use the forum's private messaging function to contact people.

It's not possible at the moment, but I think, it should be within the next update.

It's not possible to create an accout for the forum.
An account is automatically created by registering to the site.
You could use the forum to message a user, but if the recipient isn't active in the forum, he wouldn't know about your message.

If you want to talk to your readers before contributing, you could create a new thread as answer to the initial thread, where you could tell them, that they can contact you in the forum. Everyone, who bookmarked your story would see the note. (That thread could be deleted later)
