Anybody remember The Warlock of Firetop Mountain? Deathtrap Dungeon? The Citadel of Chaos? Basically single player D&D where the book is the Dungeon Master and it is a physical version of CHYOA. Are there any stories on here that are like that? Where, for instance, you have to roll dice in... I dunno, sexual encounters? Where the die roll decides whether you made your partner climax? Or where you test your luck to see if your seduction attempt succeeds? Where you have to keep a sheet of paper handy to keep track of any codes or items you may have picked up along the way or characters gave you? I suppose it would take bloody ages to translate such a thing into erotica but I can't see any structural stumnling blocks. Is it already there on the site and I just failed to see it?
Stories which make use of Conditional Branches (Game Mode) allow keeping track of the reader's decision and allow having an inventory. Game Mode is still somewhat limited and doesn't allow generating random numbers, though I hope that we will get that feature soon. Besides that, it would also be possible to ask the reader to keep a character sheet and do dice rolls, though I don't know if there are stories like that around.
In my story "The Invitation", I use a system that tracks arousal, so if you have an encounter of a somewhat sexual nature and are too aroused, you will automatically have an orgasm. I also let the players collect points towards dominance or submission which leads to characters reacting differently towards you down the path (and let them collect items and track encounters). Other stories with Game Mode are sometimes doing similar things. Unfortunately, there are also authors switching on "Game Mode" without having a real plan in mind. But there are other nice examples at CHYOA. What we don't have is a really classic Fighting Fantasy version. I could, of course, totally imagine, a story where you have to Test Your Luck or have to get into a fight with Succubi or other sexual monsters, while rolling the dice in front of your computer screen. Of course, it would be much better if we could actually let the computer roll the dice, and that feature is not implemented yet. Compared to what some authors are writing here, the 400 paragraphs of a usual FF book wouldn't even be that hard to achieve.
I've got an idea for this for after my current story finishes. The combat mechanics might get a little tricky, but I hope to sort all that out before I get to the actual writing.
So I'm going to start work on this fairly soon as I've worked out what sort of end my currently active story might lead to, and I have a further question. I want to have basically the same rules as the original books, and so it makes sense to me to also include those rules in a separate chapter, or even as the introduction. I'm worried that I might get into copyright trouble if I simply take the rules out of my copy of Firetop Mountain more or less as they are. I mean, I'm not profiting off this, so it may be a silly question, but does this fall under like, fanfiction rules or something?
Game system rules aren't subject to copyright, only the exact expression of those rules. As long as you don't take it verbatim, it's not a copyright issue. If you really want to get around it you can replace Skill with Prowess and Stamina with Health if it makes it easier for you.
Well, the story should be out now: https://chyoa.com/chapter/Introduction.573909 Thanks for your advice, folks. I remodeled the rules somewhat, added a few bits and pieces. It does write itself quickly like Javalar said, but it's also hard to keep track at times. I hope I haven't already made glaring continuity errors in what I've already written...
