Rather than explain everything in great detail, I would really like to create a floor plan for Cockshoots Hall. All the free online tools don't let you save to an image file as far as I know and there does not seem to be a practical way in Office. And don't say MS Paint, that's worse than dreadful - it wouldn't be dreadful with just a little bit of extra programming but they never bothered.

BTW I only looking to draw rectangles with a little text in them, it shouldn't be rocket science.

If you can create something on your screen, you could do a screenshot of it.

In office I would use a spreadsheet. Formatting width and height of each cell to same size.
Then doing the outlines of rooms with borders.
"Creating" objects by joining cells (then you can label them (formatting cell... vertical and horizontal alignment center)) and also using borders for outlines.
You can format the borders to show the difference between walls (bold lines), windows (double lines) doors (extra bold lines) and objects (small lines)
To hide the other grey lines you can use a white background color.
After that you could create a screenshot.

Dont know, if this is something, you searched for

    Thanks Trugbild.

I had already started with the EXCEL but I felt there must be a better way. Taking a screenshot and editing is quite messy but I guess it would work. It is annoying as now apart from the cooking/laundry area I know where pretty much every room is and who is in it.

Google Sketchup is a really simple program, meant for 3D modeling, but can be used for 2D floor plans if you wish.

Thanks Noah - I've done most of it in Excel now, but I'll check Sketchup out.
