The main reason I asked is that there is a large community of caption-writers, mostly on reddit and tumblr, who might jump at a chance for a better system, which CHYOA could be if it had the ability to have pictures in threads. Imagine somewthing like Chaosmuramasa' s Universal Acceptance series (http://www.imagefap.com/organizer/171447/Universal-Acceptance) on CHYOA. It would be a bit of an adjustment (we would want the text to be separate from the pictures, but that probably makes it a little easier anyway since less photoshopping), but could be a good thing, since right now many captions are lost in the depths of timing out. (I can't stop the link from hitting all my following text without hitting return, typing, then deleting the return to get it back on the right line.)
That's a very good idea. I wasn't aware that a lot of these captions exist as series. So instead of integrating them as stories, I thought of profile posts on a user's profile page. But both options can be well integrated into the activity stream in Chyoa 2.
It's pretty. I'd love a supercompressed view without images and extra space, but I guess that marks me as a creature of the pre-CSS web. I'm hoping for an option allowing more entries per page and less space, especially for pageable query results. Navigation, navigation, navigation. Presentation? Shrug. But maybe that's just me? Seriously, I love how much effort and love have been put into Chyoa. I love being able to continue and collaborate on stories. I salute you again. -Z.
The server upgrades earlier today were not the new version being pushed to live. That will happen later.
It's not just you Zingiber, I totally agree. There are many sites these days that have been ruined by overemphasising presentation over function. Excessive white space and vertical scrolling are two of the newer design choices I hate.
I've completed coding of the core features yesterday and will now test Chyoa 2. Afterwards I'm going to integrate the new design (Chyoa 2 looks more like a prototype at the moment) and write an algorithm to import the current data. Then we're ready to launch.
I've been working on the encoding problem for the past two weeks. So I hadn't much time for the new version. But I should get back to Chyoa 2 next week.
I'm still working on the implementation of the design (that is primarily the process of converting a psd file to an html version) and improving it here and there. Since I have to stand in for a co-worker at work while he's on vacation, my days are filled accordingly and I have less time for Chyoa 2. However, the project is making progress, even if only in small steps
Did you make a recent update that let's threads waiting for approval get put into the "Waiting for Approval" queues of the non-owner privilege users? I'm getting stuff in my queue for Slut World, which I'm not editing, but I do have what I would have called "Trusted" status in the old CHYOO.
Yep, duskford asked for a way to approve threads without owning a story and that was the quickest solution. More info here: http://forum.chyoa.com/threads/quick-question.190/#post-3823
Hi folks, thank you for waiting so patiently. I will release the new site in October. And to shorten the remaining time I've attached two screenshots, one of the homepage and one of the recent activity. With the new layout we can provide a better presentation of the stories and probably attract more readers. I'm always open for feedback Regards, Friedman
I'm pretty sure (unless I'm happily surprised by Chyoa 2!) that I will suggest more ways to navigate one's own threads, threads by story, stories contributed to. Recent work is fairly easy to navigate right now, but for someone like me with many stories contributed to and many many threads, it's hard to navigate old threads and story contributions. Thank you for your hard work in creating and improving Chyoa. I'm looking forward to seeing the new site!
Thanks Friedman, cannot wait to see the new version PS: I'll give you plenty of feedback as soon as It's up, I'm sure It will also be easier to modify\customize
