Interracial category

Is this really necessary in 2019? I mean half the couples in TV commercials today seem to be interracial. Is it so uncommon now that it needs a category in an erotica fiction site?

In the US, only about 20% of newlyweds are with partners of different ethnicities with a total of about 10%

So even if TV might suggest it, society hasn't reached that point yet. (And as soon as it has reached that point, you might not be able to call them different "races" anymore)

But I actually don't get the point of the question. Even if it would be the most common thing, a white person, who is in a relationship with a black person, could still fantasize about Asians, just because it is something they don't have.

shouldn't it just be "erotic couplings"?

Then, what about Teen, MILF, Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, Mature, Transsexual, Incest, Romance?

    Incest is taboo.
Gay/bisexual has been a separate erotic genre for some time.
Mature and MILF can be considered fetishes as they almost always involve a much younger man.
    Transexual is still quite rare.
Romance could be lumped in with Erotic coupling...unless there's no erotica.
I just don't see how interacial is still a subgenre in this day and age.
    That's just me.

    So what?

Interracial can be considered a fetish as well.

Depends on your definition of futas.

With Romance, I would rather expect the cheesy stuff with more subtle erotica.

Why shouldn't it? After all, the main point of the stories in that category is that there is a ethnical or cultural difference between the partners.

Interracial coupling can absolutely be a fetish and/or a driving plot/story point even where it's not a fetish.

Categories are a tool to help readers connect with the type of story they are looking for.

Quite a few people look specifically for interracial couplings and themes. So, a category benefits that.

Please no. Erotic Coupling has to many stories in it as is and not all of them are about coupling.

    Neither are they all erotic.

At the risk of sounding like some modern age puritan I also don't think interracial should be a category. I feel like it legitimizes a view of human beings that is false. There is only one race, and the correct term or terms to describe regional adaptions is just that: regional adaptations. The amount of melanine, the size of the nasal cavity, whether there is an epicanthic fold under the eye, none of these factors are or should be relevant in the personality of an individual or character, let alone their sexual attractiveness. Unless there is a fetish for the particular blend of cultures that has arisen from people with particular regional adaptations being discriminated against, like the black community, I don't see the point. Incest, Gay/Bi, MILF, Trans, all these directly affect the sexual dynamic that is taking place regardless of what the individuals look like. They are universal. With interracial the dynamic is determined by taking for granted that the reader has a certain set of preconceptions about what it might mean to be a person with so and so regional adaptations. I think it means you potentially force the focus on something that shouldn't have real impact. When I see someone whose ancestry is ostensibly from a different corner of the world than mine, I don't think 'that's potentially a sexual experience of note' on that basis, whereas when I might think that when I see someone who is ostensibly alternative in any way imaginable (goth, steampunk, punk, rock, fantasy, sci-fi, etc.), just because of the wider implications on their personality of belonging to some alternative thing. There's nothing I can assume about the type of sexual shenanigans I might conceivably have with a person based on arbitrary characteristics that didn't evovle around sex.
Rant over. Sorry it became a rant. Cheers.

While I totally agree on personality, sexual attractiveness is a whole different story.
The sexual attractiveness doesn't depend on the specific individual of another ethnicity but rather on the preferences of the viewer.
It is basically the same as if someone judges the sexual attractiveness of their neighbor. Some might find them hot, others don't. Some drool over redheads, for others, they are creepy.
Looks which differ vastly from what you see every day are exotic and as people usually want the things they don't have, they might also enjoy this visual difference.

These are subcultures. If the fact that a person is part of a subculture would make their personality insignificantly different, why should the personalities of two persons from different continents with different upbringing be less different?
For me, that doesn't feel any less like prejudice. (Maybe with the addition of "They chose it, so it's their own fault.")

    Totally agree on that.
For that reason, I would support a change of the category name into something like "interethnical" or "intercultural"

I agree that two individuals from different places, who actually grew up in those places, are indeed likely to be as different if not more than people who live in different cultural, proffessional or social spheres. But, looking at a person whose physical body exhibits regional adaptations of a distant land, I don't assume that person to have actually grown up in that distant land. There are many around me who grew up where I grew up, sound like everybody else who grew up here, yet stand out visually because of their regional ancestry. I'm not going to think you are actually, meaningfully foreign until you display by your own behaviour that you are foreign, regardless how superficially alien you might look.
An "intercultural" category would be interesting. I wonder if it would motivate authors to add colour their characters by bolstering the.. well, 'cultural' aspect of their sexuality.

I feel like arguing that IR as a category is unnecessary is like arguing that Incest as a category is unnessecary since we are all brothers and sisters in spirit...
Technically true, but beside the point.
Not to be a bore about it, but imo the IR category is mostly about processing and expressing a set of hangups, fears, resentments and uncertainties that emerge in any multiracial society, particularly one as segregated and with such a fraught history as the US.
I'll be honest, I find Interracial porn mostly pretty unpleasant, politically worrying and yes, racist, but then some of my fantasies are literally not allowed on this very site...
I'm super not a fan of black dudes being portrayed as donkey-dicked thugs out to cuck dweeby crackers, or of asian women as submissively longing for white dick, but I can see where the appeal might come from. There's a demand, it makes sense as a category, people gotta work out their hangups somehow.
    We live in a society.
